Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

8-0 was the current score of the game. 4 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter.

"The Longhorns burned time with risky passes on 4th downs always being received by Laquivonte Gonzales, the star Wide Receiver of the Longhorns," Randy's voice was heard through the stadium speakers narrating what the last minutes of the match were like.

"A solid Wide Receiver who signed a letter of intent with Texas A&M to play with them next season," added Shea while on the screens Gonzales' profile was seen while on the field a new play was being developed.

In it, one could see how the Tigers' defense pressed hard causing the Longhorns' inner pocket to collapse and Damion Hobbs throwing a quick and desperate pass avoiding being captured by both defensive tackles who charged towards him as if they were going to break him at any moment.

Desperate, Hobbs could only throw an irregular high pass towards the right flank of the field in which Gonzales was located, who upon seeing the irregular pass could not help but curse to himself while calculating the drop point and the distance between him and the cornerback.

Without options and on his last chance, he had no alternative but to jump as high as he could with the strength of his legs and catch the ball in mid-air with both hands, but before his feet could even touch the ground, he felt how he was heavily tackled falling directly onto the grass.

"Uf," he could not help but groan in pain upon being brought down by the rival cornerback.

"1st and 10," the referee said again upon seeing that Gonzales was indeed brought down at the 20-yard line giving the Longhorns a new breather.

"Focus, damn it," standing up Gonzales could not help but curse his teammates tired of being the one who has to save them always on the last chances.

Then he quickly threw the ball towards Hobbs who quickly caught it. "Don't just throw to throw, do your job, bastard," Gonzales hissed between his teeth under his helmet while getting into position ready for the team's new 1st and 10 knowing that time was about to run out.

"Idiot," Hobbs could not help but mentally curse at him while quickly throwing the ball to him the center in front of him and leaning ready for the start of the play.

"Ready, hot," he shouted receiving the ball quickly and taking a few steps back while his gaze quickly scanned the field in search of a clear passing lane.

His first reaction was to look towards Gonzales to throw the ball quickly but quickly remembering what happened minutes before he retracted his arm and continued scanning the field.

Until he saw how one of his receivers was in the center without any player in sight marking him, so without wasting a second he quickly retracted his arm and threw it with a perfect parabola.

The receiver's first reaction was one of surprise seeing how the ball was heading towards him, but he quickly composed himself and got into position ready to receive the ball and run as much as he can towards the end zone.

But without him realizing it by being focused on following the ball's trajectory he did not see how the Safety was stealthily approaching from his right side like a lion hunting its prey slowly waiting for the ball to fall.

Just at the opportune moment before the receiver could even hold the ball with his hands he saw how a shadow approached him and jumped as high as he could intercepting the ball in the air.

With a look of panic and incredulity he saw how the Tigers' Safety took the ball and quickly prepared to run towards the other side of the field.

"Intercepted!" the sound was heard through the speakers of the entire stadium while in the stands the situation went out of control while the Tigers' crowd roared with excitement and the Longhorns put their hands to their heads sharing the hysterical look while watching how the Safety ran as much as he could.

Without wasting time and in panic the Longhorns' offense quickly ran towards the Safety, with Hobbs being the most desperate seeing how he had possibly ruined his last chance to score points in the final minutes of the first quarter.

Running with all his strength the Safety collided with the offensive guards while his tacklers held back the offensive tacklers offering him an opening through which to pass only to end up being intercepted by Gonzales who ran the whole distance to bring him down at the 45-yard line of his own zone.

A 15-yard setback, Gonzales could not help but shake his head in resignation knowing he did all he could and that he still had 3 quarters remaining, so without more and with his head held high he left the field seeing the defensive team enter due to the change in team positions.

His gaze could not help but rest on the opposing team's number 10 who calmly adjusted the strap under his helmet chin and entered the field without any nervousness as if he existed for moments like this.

Looking instead at Hobbs, his own quarterback, Gonzales could not help but compare them and think how different it would be if he were the QB of his team instead of Hobbs shaking his head to get those thoughts out of his head.

While he sat down he could not help but hear the complaints of his own coach towards Hobbs, who had his head down without having any excuse or defense for his error on the last play.

"Gonzales was open, I don't understand why the hell you pass to the center," exasperated the coach did not stop shouting exasperated at that error that cost them scoring points in the 1st quarter.

Shaking his head the coach turned while coordinating with the defensive coach leaving Hobbs alone while the looks of all the players on the team were set on him.

"What are you looking at," he barked looking at everyone who as soon as his gaze rested on them looked down.

"Tsch," clicking his tongue he headed quickly towards the bench while loosening the helmet strap and taking it off.

"Dammit!" in a last burst of anger he threw the helmet hard towards the floor while venting the last bit of anger he had.

Returning to the field Wyatt quickly formed a circle with the rest of the players while his gaze rested on the remaining time on the clock: 1:30 minutes remaining knowing the little time and that they had to cover more than 60 yards, a Touchdown was not an option.

"Alright boys, we have to get as close as possible for a field goal," Wyatt said quickly receiving nods from all the players accepting the idea. "Let's go," clapping Wyatt broke the circle taking position along with the rest of the players.

Already in position he began the commands: "Ready, hot," to receive the ball quickly and drop back to then cross paths with Adam his trusted runner and both run in different directions briefly disorienting the defense.

Without knowing which of the two had the ball in his hands both cornerbacks flanked both without leaving either of them an easy path through which to advance.

Running as fast as he could with his legs Wyatt raised his arm in an attempt to push away the cornerback in front of him who he could say with certainty weighed more than him and for a brief moment managed to get him off him to be able to advance until he was supported by the linebacker who with a strong tackle brought Wyatt to the ground exposing that he indeed did not have the ball in his possession leaving Adam as the one who had it.

Which luckily they managed to capture him at the 43-yard line adding 8 yards on their first attempt.

"Brilliant play by the Tigers disorienting the Longhorns' defense and adding a crucial 8 yards with less than 2 minutes to go before the last quarter ends," Shea said into his microphone under the attentive exclamation of the fans throughout the stadium.

"You can say that again my friend, with 1:10 minutes left the Tigers must make quick plays in order to be able to secure points in what will likely be the last chance of the 1st quarter," Randy added his voice drowned out by the screams of the crowd.

"TIGERS, TIGERS," the roar of the crowd did not stop at any point of the play and even increased at the moment they saw how the pocket formed again for a 2nd and 2 making quick plays.

On second and two Wyatt did not risk anything and as soon as his hands held the ball he quickly passed it to Rodney who shrugged his shoulders and with all his strength collided head-on against the Longhorns' defense thus getting the last 2 yards necessary to restart the play on a 1st and 10.

Without wasting time they quickly formed the pocket so that Wyatt at the moment he received the ball dropped back 3 steps and took the ball over his shoulder ready for a quick throw which the Tight End managed to catch to run like a beast and be brought down after a 10-yard run finally falling at the 40-yard line of his own field.

30 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter.

Without wasting more time this time and knowing they had little time for a play Wyatt directed a command: "Orange 99!" he shouted receiving quickly that the defense charged with all its strength head-on making Wyatt take advantage of that moment to run with all his strength the remaining distance.

"And Sterling leaves the pocket," the voice of one of the announcers could be heard while everyone's gaze was set on the player running forward facing alone the mob of players looking to bring him down.

Running with all his strength with his gaze set forward Wyatt saw how two players threw themselves in front of him, at which point taking advantage of the momentum he carried he collided with one causing both to slightly lose balance from the collision which Wyatt took advantage of so that with the strength of his midsection lean forward causing him to propel himself forward before the second player brought him down.

"And he goes down, after an intelligent run Wyatt Sterling goes down 25 yards from the end zone, a distance that the team's kicker can easily reach after they got him some valuable 10 extra yards," with excitement in his voice Randy spoke as fast as he could catching the emotion felt in the stadium.

Rising slowly Wyatt was quickly surrounded by his teammates while receiving pats on his helmet and being praised by his teammates.

"That's how it's done, Cap," said his center.

"Good run," Adam added putting his arm around Wyatt's shoulders.

Then as soon as he stood up he headed quickly towards the line where the special team was located already ready for the field goal attempt.

"It's up to you, Mendoza," Wyatt said as soon as he had the mentioned player in front of him.

"Don't worry, Cap," he said before calmly entering the field preparing for a field goal that will likely end up being the last play of the quarter.

Once both teams were in position what was already known happened: Mendoza kicked the ball causing it to cross the end zone adding valuable points for his team.

"And that's how the first quarter ended," smiling towards the cameras Randy mentioned while at the bottom the score could be seen.

Tigers 11 - Longhorns 0.

"A bad start by the Longhorns who must try to recover as much as possible in the second quarter if they don't want to end up humiliated," Shea said coldly to all the viewers tuning into the channel.

"Will the Longhorns be able to recover? Find out after commercials," Randy finished so that the screen goes black and they moved on to commercials.

What do you think about Wyatt being drafted by the Cowboys in 2016? Would you like that? It would be something like the hero returning home.
