Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 — No Way Back

Elena knew the moment it happened.

Not when the car door opened.

Not when the footsteps followed her.

But the second the noise disappeared.

Campus had been loud just minutes ago—voices, laughter, movement.

Now?

Nothing.

Her instincts screamed.

Walk faster.

Don't turn.

Don't react.

But her fingers tightened around her bag.

Too late.

"Miss Hart."

The voice came from behind her.

Calm.

Controlled.

Not a request.

Elena stopped.

Slowly.

She turned.

Two men.

Black suits. No expressions. No hesitation.

Her heart started to pound—but her face didn't show it.

"Yes?"

"Come with us."

Not please.

Not can you.

Just a statement.

Elena let out a small breath. "I think you have the wrong person."

"We don't."

Silence.

Her mind raced.

Run?

Pointless.

Scream?

Useless.

Fight?

Impossible.

So she did the only thing left—

"Who sent you?"

A brief pause.

Then—

"You already know."

Her stomach dropped.

A.V.

The car ride was quiet.

Too quiet.

Elena sat in the back seat, hands resting on her lap. She wasn't tied. Not restrained.

She didn't need to be.

Everything about this situation made one thing clear:

Escape wasn't an option.

The city passed by outside the window, familiar streets slowly turning into places she didn't recognize.

Farther.

Higher.

More isolated.

Her pulse steadied.

Not because she was calm—

But because fear had already settled.

"What does he want?" she finally asked.

No answer.

Of course.

The car stopped.

A building stood in front of them—tall, glass, untouchable.

Power.

Not the loud kind.

The quiet kind.

The dangerous kind.

"Out."

Elena stepped out.

The air felt different here.

Colder.

Or maybe that was just her.

Inside—

Everything was silent.

Polished floors. Minimal design. Security she couldn't see—but knew was there.

She was led forward.

Step by step.

No one stopped them.

No one questioned them.

Because no one needed to.

They reached a door.

One of the men opened it.

"Go in."

Elena didn't move immediately.

For the first time—

Hesitation.

Real hesitation.

Because she knew…

Once she walked through that door—

There was no going back.

She stepped in.

The room was large.

Too large for just one person.

And yet—

He was the only one there.

Standing by the window.

Back facing her.

Still.

Like he had been waiting.

The door closed behind her.

A soft click.

Final.

Silence stretched.

Then—

"You're either very brave…"

His voice.

Low.

Controlled.

"…or very stupid."

He turned.

Slowly.

And for the first time—

Elena saw him.

Adrian Vale.

Not through data.

Not through patterns.

But real.

Alive.

And somehow—

Worse than she imagined.

His gaze locked onto hers.

Sharp.

Unforgiving.

Unavoidable.

Elena felt it—

That pressure.

Like being analyzed. Measured. Decided.

"Which one are you?" he asked.

Her throat tightened.

But she didn't look away.

"…I could ask you the same."

A pause.

A dangerous one.

Then—

Something unexpected happened.

Adrian smiled.

Just slightly.

Not warm.

Not kind.

But real.

And somehow—

That was worse than anger.

"Interesting."

He took a step closer.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Elena held her ground.

Even as every instinct told her not to.

"You went looking for something," Adrian continued.

"And you found me."

Another step.

"People who find me…"

Closer.

"…don't get to leave."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Elena's heart pounded.

But her voice?

Steady.

"…Then maybe you shouldn't have been so easy to find."

For a split second—

Everything stopped.

Then—

Adrian laughed.

Low.

Genuine.

And dangerous.

"You have no idea what you just walked into, Elena."

He stopped right in front of her.

Close enough to feel his presence.

Close enough to understand—

This wasn't a game.

It never was.

"From now on," he said quietly,

"You belong to my world."

And just like that—

Elena's normal life ended.

To be continued...
