Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 — Inside His World

The gates closed behind her.

Heavy.

Final.

Elena stepped out of the car slowly, her eyes scanning everything.

The place was… unreal.

Not just big.

Controlled.

Every corner.

Every shadow.

Every movement.

Guards. Cameras. Silence.

Power.

"This is where you live?" she asked.

Adrian walked past her without answering at first.

Like it wasn't something worth explaining.

"Yes."

Of course.

Elena followed, her steps slower now.

More careful.

This wasn't just a house.

It was a fortress.

The doors opened before they even reached them.

Inside—

Cold marble floors.

Dim lighting.

Minimalist.

Expensive.

Empty.

She frowned slightly.

"No family photos?"

Adrian didn't stop walking.

"No."

Short answer.

Closed door.

Elena glanced around again.

Everything here felt… distant.

Untouchable.

Like no one actually lived here.

"Feels more like a museum than a home," she muttered.

"I don't need comfort," Adrian replied.

"I need control."

She let out a quiet breath.

"Yeah. I noticed."

A woman approached them from the hallway.

Elegant. Calm. Observant.

"Elena," she said, like she already knew her.

"Elena Carter."

Elena froze for half a second.

"…You've been doing your homework."

"Of course," the woman replied softly.

Then she turned to Adrian.

"Everything is secured."

Adrian nodded once.

"Good."

The woman looked back at Elena, her gaze sharper now.

"You'll be staying here."

Elena blinked.

"Excuse me?"

"For your safety."

There it was again.

That word.

"Right," Elena said dryly. "Because nothing says 'safe' like being locked in a mafia prince's mansion."

A pause.

Adrian stepped closer.

Not aggressive.

Not soft.

Just… there.

"You're safer here than anywhere else right now."

Elena crossed her arms.

"I'd feel safer with a choice."

"You don't have one."

Silence.

God, she hated that.

"Show her the room," Adrian said.

The room was…

Too perfect.

Large windows.

Soft lighting.

Everything clean.

Prepared.

Elena stood at the door.

Not entering fully.

Like stepping in meant accepting something.

"I'm not staying," she said.

Behind her—

Footsteps.

Adrian again.

Always.

"You are."

She turned quickly.

"And if I walk out?"

A beat.

"You won't make it far."

Not a threat.

A fact.

Elena held his gaze.

Longer this time.

Stronger.

"Then stop calling this protection," she said quietly.

"Call it what it is."

A pause.

Adrian didn't answer immediately.

Then—

He stepped even closer.

Closing the last bit of distance.

"Fine."

His voice dropped slightly.

Lower.

Colder.

"It's control."

Silence.

Elena felt it.

That shift.

That honesty.

And somehow—

That was worse.

"You should rest," Adrian said after a moment.

"Tomorrow won't be easy."

Elena didn't move.

"Why?"

A pause.

Then—

"Because they're going to come looking for you."

Her stomach tightened.

"And when they do," Adrian continued, his eyes locked on hers,

"I'll be ready."

He turned.

Walking away like the conversation was over.

Like everything was already decided.

Elena stood there.

Alone now.

In a place that wasn't hers.

In a life she didn't choose.

But one thing was clear.

She wasn't just inside Adrian's world anymore.

She was part of it.

Whether she liked it or not.

To be continued...
