Chapter 15 - Spiders [1]

Mikhail felt the silence of the forest the more further he walked inside.

The grip on his sword tightened as he looked around for any zombies.

The wild canopy of trees swallowed all the sunlight, making the ground dark and humid.

'This place is creepy as hell.'

Mikhail had not noticed it the last time he visited, but alone he was more cautious of his surroundings.

The smell of death and decay did not help either.

Methew jumped down from Mikhail's shoulder and walked by his side, giving him more leverage.

Mikhail decided against using [Enhancement] on his luck due to the repercussion he might face.

After a few minutes of walking, Mikhail finally spotted a lone zombie half a yard ahead of him.

He took in a deep breath, took out his short spear from his holster and aimed at the zombie.

The zombie suddenly turned his head as if sensing him.

"Arhhhh!!!"

With a long guttural scream, he rushed towards Mikhail.

Mikhail remained steady. He used [Enhancement] on the spear, waited for the right moment before he hurled it with full force.

The spear burst through half of the zombie's face, blood and brain matter spread around it.

His body grew limp and fell face first on the ground.

Mikhail didn't get any chance to rest as the scream of the first zombie garnered the attention of other zombies.

Before long, Mikhail saw five zombies rushing at him from all directions.

'Huff….'

He burst into motion even though the zombies screamed and advanced.

He reached the closest zombie, unsheathed his sword and swung.

The first swing sliced through the lower jaw, blood and teeth spread, and the second swing beheaded the zombie.

There was a movement to his right and instinctively he ducked and swayed, twisting to swing his sword.

The zombie who jumped at him was cut in half the very next instant.

Mikhail took a few steps back as the zombie behind rushed over the dead body.

He used [Enhancement] on his senses and the world began to become more clear.

With a quick thought, he got into a fencing stance, stabbed the far right of its neck, twisted the blade and swung.

The zombie screamed as spray burst from the severed neck that was only attached by a thread.

A short breath, then Mikhail focused on the other three who had almost reached him.

Mikhail faked a jump, the first mimicked his movement trying to catch him in the air.

He set his feet and dropped into a crouch, and when the zombie was in range he swung, cutting him in half.

"Methew!!"

The cat jumped on his back and Mikhail used [Enhancement] on him at that very moment.

His body glowed as electricity charged within him.

"Meowtherfucker!!"

A clean zap of electricity stopped the other two in their place.

Mikhail stood up and with a single swing of his sword, he beheaded them both.

The silence of a dead desert draped the humid forest once again.

Mikhail gently smiled at Methew who calmly returned to his shoulder.

'That was something.'

He thought, feeling a rush of adrenaline in his body.

Mikhail rubbed his face as he glanced at his status screen. The zombies still gave five points each.

'Alright, time to kill more.'

With that thought in mind, Mikhail gathered all his belongings and went deeper into the forest.

His eyes wandered around to find his next prey.

'I wonder if I can find anything good without luck enhancement.'

Mikhail doubted such a thing would happen but it was never bad to think of it.

For a long while, Mikhail walked around the place but didn't find any prey.

Just as he was about to give up, he finally heard a sound.

'What was that?'

He wondered, following the sound until he saw it.

The thing turned, it was a human with an axe and a shield in his hand.

But what made Mikhail speechless was that half of its body was covered in small black creatures, and on closer look they were all spiders.

Half of the man's upper body was covered in them, who were eating him from the inside.

'Spider... man?'

"ARGHHHH!!!"

With a gut wrenching yell, the man rushed towards Mikhail.

He quickly prepared himself to fight, taking out his sword.

With a hiss of air, the man chopped his axe where Mikhail's head had just been.

He quickly stepped back and immediately rushed in.

The man parried the rushed thrust with his axe, which took Mikhail by surprise.

He thrust his sword and the man blocked it with his shield.

'Is he conscious?'

A thought passed through Mikhail's mind but he wasn't in a spot to give it time.

Mikhail stepped in once again, he thrust and the man swung his shield like expected.

He quickly took out his short spear from the holster and thrust it deep into his unguarded chest.

The man let out a scream and Mikhail screamed as well. "Methew!"

The cat jumped and shot another bolt of lightning, stunning the man in place.

Mikhail quickly beheaded him and immediately stepped back.

He took in deep breaths, eyes never leaving the man. '…What the hell happened to him?'

Mikhail kept on staring at the man before he summoned his status screen.

'Hm?'

Mikhail immediately noticed the abnormality.

'I got fifty points for him?'

He slowly walked towards the man who lay dead on the ground.

'No, it's the spiders.'

Mikhail thought, nodding to himself.

If he took about 0.3 points for one spider then the amount of spiders were more than enough to explain the points he got.

'….What type of spiders are they?'

He wondered, looking around to find a few webs on the trees that he had previously missed.

Methew returned to his shoulder while he looked around, finding the webs getting denser on the east side.

Mikhail began to follow the webs until he finally found a place that looked like a hideout.

From afar, he could see nine of those spider people that he had fought just before.

They looked like they were in a trance state, as if sleeping to save energy.

'Nope.'

Mikhail quickly turned around and walked away with light steps.

He was not insane enough to pick a fight against nine of them right now.

But after taking a few steps, Mikhail found something.

It was a puddle of rainwater stored in a small area.

Around the small pond was a natural mixture of vines and plants that created a three way barrier.

Mikhail rubbed his chin and turned around. From here he could clearly see all of those sleeping people.

He turned back and looked at the other side of the pond.

'If anyone wants to get to the other side they would have to cross the pond.'

Mikhail finally turned to look at Methew who just tilted his head.

'Dear diary….'

A plan began to form in Mikhail's mind.

'…Jackpot.'
