Chapter 21 - Robin Varbin [2]

[24th September, 2080.]

[Three Days Later]

It had been three days since the case of Robin Varbin was accepted by Daniel.

Even though it had been so long, there had been no substantial lead in the case.

No matter which path they chose, all of them led to dead ends.

There was no new unknown grave within the graveyard. Robin had no external affair or any mistress he could have run away with.

He definitely had enemies but none that would be motivated to kill him.

Even the police had given up on the case, doing only the bare minimum.

Daniel was still working on the case, albeit he had begun looking in different directions.

The case did not stop Mikhail from continuing his personal life.

Right now, he sat on the bus leaning back on his seat, looking out of the window.

His right hand gently patted Methew who lay curled up in his lap.

"What are you thinking so hard?" Kevin, who sat beside him, asked.

Mikhail turned to look at him. "Nothing." He replied. "Just Robin's case."

"Oh come on." Kevin replied with an exasperated sigh. "It's not your job to solve it, you are only an assistant, remember?"

Mikhail didn't respond as he turned to look outside again.

He had talked with Kevin about the whole case to get his perspective but he wasn't of much help.

Mikhail stared at the overflowing lake that had been filled with heavy rain last month as the bus passed by.

With a tired sigh, he closed his eyes and waited to reach the forest.

"Did you hear the news about the dragon riders and their family?" Kevin said, continuing the conversation. "The Garfield family."

"No." Mikhail replied with his eyes closed.

"Apparently, vampires were involved in the massacre as well." He informed happily. "I was right in liking them."

"I see." Mikhail mumbled. "Anything else?"

"Oh, there is." Kevin said, his voice lowering a little. "They say the princess is still alive."

Mikhail grunted in response. "Good for them." He said. "She can try to revive the family."

"Eww." Kevin said in a disgusted tone. "Speak no evil, man."

Mikhail let out a sigh and ignored him.

---

After a few minutes of preparation and registration, Mikhail and Kevin were inside the forest once again.

Kevin had gotten more gear and a brand new broadsword while Mikhail wore his old gear.

They both began to walk further inside, ignoring the area of the zombies.

'They don't really give that many exp.'

Mikhail grumbled inwardly as he summoned his status screen.

Mikhail rubbed his chin as he stared at it for a few seconds before dispersing it.

He had just reached level 4 yesterday and was halfway through to the next rank.

After walking for almost ten minutes, they were out of the zombie area and entered a swamped area.

The air was humid and the light was much duller.

Sounds of hundreds of animals echoed unlike the silence before.

Mikhail grabbed his short spear from his holster and began to search for prey.

"Man, I hate this area." Kevin said, keeping his voice low. "Can't we just farm weak zombies?"

"No." Mikhail replied, walking around the swamp. "Don't think you will always face weaker opponents in real life."

"Aye, aye, mom."

Mikhail paused in his step and looked at the far end.

In the muddy waters a bright pink colour caught his eyes.

Mikhail began to walk towards it and Kevin followed behind.

It was a frog whose colour made it easy to tell it was poisonous. It was the size of a small fridge with big lower legs.

Purrrreeeek!!!

The sound boomed within the place as Mikhail took in a deep breath.

He raised his short spear over his head and aimed at the beast.

He used Enhancement on the spear and pulled his hand back, flexing his muscles.

The air made way as he twisted his body and launched the spear, which hit the mark.

It obliterated the face of the frog as its body fell down helplessly.

Mikhail began to walk towards it while Kevin whistled softly.

"Damn." He mumbled, giving a close look at the dead body. "How strong are you now?"

Mikhail didn't respond. He just pulled out his spear that was lodged in the tree.

"Get ready." He said, looking around. "The others will be here as well."

"Others?"

Purrrreeeek!!!

Purrrreeeek!!!

Purrrreeeek!!!

Kevin got his answer immediately when seven frogs of the same species came out of hiding.

Their anger filled croaking sound filled the forest.

"Holy…." Kevin mumbled, immediately taking his stance.

Two frogs jumped at him simultaneously from the side and another launched its tongue to grab his leg.

Kevin didn't flinch. He swung his sword at the frogs who jumped high, cutting them in half.

His leg moved just in time to stomp the tongue of the beast.

Mikhail on the other hand was busy dealing with the rest of the frogs.

He easily dodged their poisonous tongues while cutting one of them in the process.

A frog tried to attack him from behind but Methew quickly jumped and landed on the beast.

"Meowtherfucker!!"

The bolt of lightning that escaped him immediately fried the frog.

Mikhail took out his spear and threw it at the frog who tried to attack Methew, killing it.

The last frog tried to run away but Methew took care of it by throwing a zap.

Mikhail turned to look at Kevin who had already taken care of the beasts on his side.

Kevin gave Mikhail a suspicious look. "How did you know there were more."

Mikhail pointed at the frog he had killed in the first attack.

"That's a pink bullfrog." He informed. "They are incredibly horny beasts and often have a harem of seven or ten female frogs around them."

Kevin turned to look at the beast with a speechless look on his face.

"A beast got more rizz than us." Kevin said. "Some die of thirst and some are drowning in water."

Mikhail chuckled softly. "The fuck you mean, drowning?"

Kevin pointed at the dead frog. "Was he not drowning?"

Mikhail was smiling but suddenly his smile froze.

"He was drowning." Mikhail said to himself. "He needed a heavy coffin to drown."

Kevin tilted his head. "What?"

"We need to go!" Mikhail said, already walking back.

"Where?"

"To the lake!"
