Mikhail ignored him as he focused on what he had found.
The first thing that caught his eyes was the purple hue it illuminated. Its size was around that of a melon with a clamshell-like body and an overall oval shape.
'Is this really….'
Mikhail looked at it doubtfully, as it oddly resembled something he had seen in the books.
Kevin walked towards him and bent down, placing his hands on his knees.
"So…" he began. "What is it?"
"Purple Mahogany." Mikhail replied softly. "It's something that is used in the creation of high grade potions, specially those related to souls."
Mikhail narrowed his eyes. "It's incredibly rare, almost extinct within the Aegon Kingdom."
Kevin gave him a weird look. "How the fuck do you even know that?"
"Oh, a guy who is always at the top of his class knows stuff." Mikhail rebuked, standing back up. "What a shocker."
"Fuck you man." Kevin replied, his gaze shifting around. "You sure are lucky."
Mikhail nodded and put the purple mahogany in his side pouch that was empty.
"Alright, let's keep moving." Mikhail said, taking the lead.
'Hm?'
But just as he took another step, his mind blanked out and he almost fell face first.
"Hey, you alright?"
Mikhail shook his head and blinked to get a hold of himself.
'A recoil?' He thought, taking in deep breaths to calm himself down. 'So, I can't use enhancement for more than five minutes.'
Though with restrictions, the enhancement skill was still one of the best things out there.
'…I have to keep that in mind.'
He looked at Kevin who was ready to catch him. "I am fine."
He said, walking away once again with Kevin just behind him.
They began to travel back on the track they had walked in, careful not to get lost.
But after a few minutes of walking they encountered a group of zombies once again.
Kevin walked forward. "I will take care of them."
Mikhail didn't stop him as his mind was still not in the right place.
With his broadsword, Kevin walked forward, put the flat of his sword parallel to the ground and waited.
Just as the zombies entered his range of attack, Kevin swung his sword with all his might like a club.
It cut through the group of four like butter, tendons and muscles ripped, bones cracked, and then they all fell down.
Kevin turned to look at Mikhail with a smile. "Kill them."
Mikhail nodded and took out his short spear and punctured the heads of the four zombies.
'…Hm?'
He felt a soothing warm feeling run through his entire body before it stopped.
Mikhail blinked in surprise. 'I leveled up?'
A quick glance at his status screen confirmed it.
He let out a sigh and put his spear back. "Let's leave."
Kevin was more than happy to oblige as they walked towards the exit.
"By the way." Mikhail said. "I never asked, what exactly is the first skill of Monarch Class?"
"It's nothing special, just a passive skill." Kevin replied, shrugging. "It's called [Undying], which makes it impossible for anyone below my rank to kill me."
'…That's really a good skill.' Mikhail thought. 'Had he not been my son, I would have killed him and used [Steal].'
A passive skill like that was really something Mikhail could use to the best of it's capabilities.
"What are you looking at me like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like you want to have your way with me."
"You are imagining things." Mikhail rebuked, walking away.
But when they passed by the alpha they had killed before, Mikhail found something surprising.
A group of corpse scavengers were dissecting the body of the alpha and taking out all the organs.
"Those filthy fucks." Kevin grumbled quietly as they walked. "Trying to collect organs to sell in the black market."
Even though those organs were now of no use to a human, they were more than helpful for scientists and researchers.
The organs of an alpha zombie could really help them.
"Let them be." Mikhail said, walking straight. "They are doing what they can to survive."
"They are still a problem." Kevin rebuked with an annoyed look. "Because of them, my father has to do extra work. A single mistake from them could lead to another outbreak like ten years ago."
"...."
Mikhail couldn't reply to that. Ten years ago something similar had happened in which a corpse scavenger brought the virus inside the wall.
That single mistake had cost the lives of thousands, if not more.
"….The black market." He mumbled softly, deep in thought.
---
As soon as they reached the exit, they reported their appearance and returned the broadsword.
After that they took the first mana bus they could find back to the city.
Once inside, Kevin closed his eyes to take some rest. Methew lay down on Mikhail's lap as he opened the status screen.

The first change that Mikhail noticed was the increase of one point in all his core stats.
Apart from that, he also noticed the extra three points he had gotten.
After thinking for a while, Mikhail put one point in vitality and the other two in agility.
'It's arguably better to be fast than strong.'
He thought before he looked down at the exp that had grown by a hundred.
'Damn….'
He let out a sigh, thinking of the time it would take to reach the next rank.
'Let's make a small goal, to reach the next rank by next month.'
Mikhail thought before he looked down at the sleeping cat.
'…Did he get bigger or what?'
He wondered, perhaps taking into account that the cat could also level up along with him.
Mikhail slid his fingers through his hair as he thought of his next course of action.
'I need to visit detective Daniel soon.'
He was really looking forward to getting some practical experience in day to day life.
'But first I need to learn a skill that could really be helpful for me.'
And Mikhail knew the exact place where he would find 'that' skill.
