Chapter 8 - First Hunt [2]

Kevin steadied himself, his focused eyes fixed on the incoming threat.

The Alpha zombie was a man with broad shoulders and a thick beard. He ran towards him like a young bull.

The zombie was naked, and what annoyed Kevin the most were its swollen testicles, swinging like two rocks in a sack.

"Huff…."

Kevin drew in a deep breath, pushed his left leg back, picked up the broadsword with two hands, putting the flat surface parallel to the ground.

"ARGHHHH!!!"

The zombie roared, eyes and veins bulging with rage.

It swung its fist, which Kevin dodged easily, the punch crunching into a small tree, a ripping sound as roots tore and the tree swayed, then toppled.

'Damn, I would be dead if that hit me.'

Kevin thought grimly before he stepped in and lunged with his sword, scoring a red line along the zombie's ribs.

With a bellow of pain the zombie ripped his hand off the tree before he swung once again.

Kevin dodged the attacks, absorbing the ones he couldn't dodge with the flat of his sword.

He parried another strike before he stepped in once again and swung his sword from below.

The strike cut off a chunk of its nose along with the fingers it tried to use to stop the attack.

Kevin quickly created some distance as the zombie let out a scream of agony.

The zombie came to a halt before he glared at Kevin with blood pouring down his nose.

With another roar, he jumped up, pulled his legs back and pushed his arms up.

"Fuck…."

Kevin whispered before he quickly moved back, barely avoiding the impact that created a dent in the ground.

Dust and dirt rose from the ground, temporarily blinding Kevin.

He couldn't see as the zombie's fist whistled towards his face.

His eyes widened instantly as he saw his gruesome death in a flash.

But at the exact moment, a short spear was hurled that passed by his side, the blade slamming into the zombie's chest.

It was well thrown and pierced the thick skin of the zombie.

Kevin quickly got a hold of himself and immediately stepped in. He kicked the base of the spear, pushing it deeper into its chest.

The zombie roared in pain, reaching for the spear when another one slammed into his ribs.

Kevin quickly put his boot on top of the spear and pushed it down with all his strength.

It broke the zombie's ribs, making him kneel on the ground.

He didn't waste a single second to behead the zombie before Kevin fell down from exhaustion.

---

'….The zombie was stronger than I anticipated.'

Mikhail thought, walking towards the headless zombie that knelt on the ground.

He patted Kevin's shoulder as he sat close to the zombie's dead body. "You did great."

Kevin looked at Mikhail who walked towards the dead body and picked up both the spears he had thrown at it.

Mikhail quickly glanced at his system screen and his exp was now at fifty.

'A total of thirty points just for assist? Damn, this thing was no joke.'

"Thanks man." Kevin replied, standing up with the support of his sword. "I would have been a wet slop by now if it wasn't for you."

"Don't sweat it." Mikhail replied, cleaning his spear with a cloth. "You should have gone for the head the first time you had the chance."

"…Argh, yeah." Kevin replied, walking towards the body and kicking it hard. "Damn fucker."

Mikhail put the spear in the holster, his eyes subconsciously going between the zombie's legs.

"He would definitely be a suitable main lead for a female romance fantasy." Mikhail said, glancing at Kevin. "Don't you think?"

Kevin grumbled, picked up a stick and began to poke it gently. "Damn…."

"Stop doing that." Mikhail said. "He already died twice."

Kevin threw the stick before he walked towards him. "What do I need to do to get that thing."

"I don't know." Mikhail shrugged, walking deeper into the forest. "Perhaps an enhancement."

"That's absurd."

Mikhail chuckled softly, shaking his head. '…Hm, I wonder if my enhancement would work that way.'

There was never a limit on which thing he could use the enhancement on. It only said living or non-living.

'….Come to think of it, does the enhancement work on abstract things as well?'

He couldn't help but wonder what the limit of his skill was.

So to check it, Mikhail paused for a second and closed his eyes.

He willed the enhancement onto his luck, and when he opened his eyes the screen changed to [1/1].

'Did it work?' He wondered, tilting his head in confusion. 'Well, only one way to find out.'

Kevin, who saw him pause and stand still, asked. "What were you doing?"

"Praying to the Creator God." Mikhail replied with a smile. "To give me a fruitful encounter."

"Such an ass thing to do." Kevin rebuked. "Do you think you are special or what?"

"Nothing wrong in trying." Mikhail replied, leading the way and changing direction.

They walked for almost five minutes before they found something rare.

A group of crawler zombies who were so deformed that they couldn't even walk.

They both looked at each other, with Kevin having a suspicious look on his face.

"Free kills." Mikhail said as he unsheathed his sword.

Kevin shrugged. "Might be just a coincidence."

They quickly got to work, putting the zombies out of their misery before Mikhail looked at his status screen again.

'Just four more zombies and I would level up.'

Mikhail thought, rubbing his chin with a deep look on his face.

Methew, who sat on his shoulder, let out a soft purr, making him glance at him.

Mikhail understood that the cat was asking for food.

'Using such a high amount of electricity must have taken a toll on his body.'

"We will get home soon." He said, gently patting his head. "I will feed you well."

"Alright, let's go!"

Kevin said as soon as he was done with his part of the zombies.

Mikhail nodded his head and began to take the lead once again.

The area had already gone quiet as most of the zombies scattered without an alpha to lead them.

'They really have a weird hierarchy and a mind of their own.' Mikhail thought to himself.

'I wonder if they could create their own civilisation one day.'

It was a far-fetched idea but Mikhail thought it was quite possible.

'Hm?'

Just as Mikhail was moving he found a bump on the ground.

Kevin noticed him stop and asked. "What now?"

Mikhail didn't reply, instead he knelt down, took out his military knife and began to clear the area around the bump.

"What are you doing?" Kevin frowned. "It's clearly a tree root."

Mikhail kept on digging, and just like Kevin said it was a tree root, but he noticed a faint glow underneath it.

He gently reached for it and took it out. It was a glowing plant root that looked like a bunch of clams tied together.

Kevin immediately let go of his sword, looked up at the sky, spread his arms and began begging like he had been starving for days.

"Creator God! Give me a goth vampire mommy and my soul is yours!!"

Mikhail chuckled softly. "Stop it, fucker, you are embarrassing me."

"There is no one here!"

"You are wrong." Mikhail replied with a straight face. "God is always here."

Kevin begged even harder.

"On Mikhail's soul, I would be a good boy!!"

Mikhail ignored him as he focused on what he had found.
