Chapter 4 - Cat in Yellow

'Pik*chu?'

Mikhail's lips trembled as he held back his smile. He didn't want to look like an idiot.

He lowered his head to get a good look at the cat, who hissed at him.

'Damn, he is a nasty one.'

The thing that stood out the most was its yellow fur. Though the cat looked cute, it could be easily spotted from miles away.

'….Not the best animal to take on a secret mission.'

Mikhail rubbed his chin as he looked between the bird and the cat.

"What do you think?" The lady asked softly.

He let out a sigh and walked towards the bird. "I will take the bir—."

Zap!

Just as he made his decision, he heard the sound of static electricity being generated behind him.

Mikhail slowly turned and looked at the yellow cat that was glowing gently.

His confused eyes turned towards the lady who gave him a small smile.

"That's why he is not safe for humans." She said. "He can produce electricity from his body because of the mutation."

Mikhail smiled before he said deeply. "I am taking Pik*chu."

"Pardon?"

"I mean, the cat." He corrected himself. "Give me the cat."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"….Alright."

The lady walked towards the desk and picked up a cage to put the cat inside.

Meanwhile, Mikhail immediately began to reconsider what to do with the rest of his money.

'….I should probably buy a decent sword with it.'

Mikhail planned to visit the forest filled with mutated monsters that was just a few kilometres away from the city walls.

He was going to kill some beasts and earn the exp to level up.

Good gear and a weapon could make a huge difference in his first hunt.

Mikhail could get the best items from the budget he had left.

'I am sure father wouldn't mind giving me some discount.'

He thought, walking towards the main desk where the lady had already put the cat in the cage.

She was making the bill while she gave him some instructions.

"Please make sure to feed the cat properly and keep it away from children." She said without looking. "Do not leave it out without supervision, otherwise you might get in trouble."

She passed the bill towards him with a smile. "And if he isn't to your liking, please return him within seven days for a full refund."

Mikhail nodded his head and gave her the money. "Thank you."

"Please visit us again."

He picked up the cat's cage by the top handle and walked out of the store.

Mikhail walked down the streets, deep in thought once again.

'I need to find a way to not make others suspicious of my class.'

As much as he wanted to brag about his class, Mikhail knew it would be stupid.

From his knowledge he might be the only one with such a class, and there was no saying what would happen to him if word got out.

'I bet the church would label me as a heretic and issue my execution.'

Mikhail was almost sure this would happen given their track record.

They had a history of killing anyone who was mildly inconvenient for them.

"Hiss."

He turned the cage around to look at the cat who was sitting at the far end.

'….Why are you so scared?'

---

Mikhail returned home and opened the door quietly.

He didn't want to alert others of his presence, so he tiptoed towards his room.

Only when he walked inside his room did he let out a sigh of relief.

'It would be a pain to explain if Olivia saw me.'

He thought, putting the cage down before he sat on his bed to calm himself down.

'Alright, let's do it.'

He took in a deep breath and sat on the floor, close to the cage.

"Summon pouch."

He said, looking at the palm of his right hand, which was once again layered by a small space.

Mikhail willed it to be the same size as the cage's small door.

Then he opened the cage and almost letting the cat free before he placed the space over it.

"Come on, kitty." He said gently. "Go inside."

In return, all he heard was the hissing of the cat who refused to budge from his place.

'Alright, guess I have to force you.'

"Meow!!!"

He immediately turned the cage's top parallel to the ground with his hand covering it.

With nothing to fight against gravity, the cat slipped into the subspace and Mikhail immediately closed it.

'....'

He looked at his hand, which was back to being normal.

'Now, we wait.'

Mikhail wasn't sure how long he had to wait, but just to be safe he decided on five minutes.

'Come to think of it, isn't there a tamer in Viscount Class?'

But as far as he knew, the tamer class worked a lot differently from what he was doing.

In the tamer class you had to make a blood pact with the animal to get it under your control.

'….But it could be a good cover up.'

Mikhail thought, taking in a deep breath before he looked at the time.

It was already past five minutes.

He glanced at his status screen and noticed the slot for summon had been filled.

"Alright." He said softly, pointing his palm at the floor. "Come out."

A subspace opened from his hand and a cat slowly walked out.

"Meooww."

The yellow cat immediately purred and affectionately began to rub his body against Mikhail's leg.

A smile slowly bloomed on Mikhail's face as he picked up the cat.

'It worked….'

He thought, gently rubbing the cat's stomach as it purred in response, which in itself felt weird.

'Did he get brainwashed or what?'

It did make a lot of sense, and Mikhail didn't know how to respond to that.

'Well, I need to name him.'

Mikhail remembered how tamers of Viscount Class gave their new pets names, and the pet repeated the first name it heard.

'Should I just call him Pik*chu?'

Mikhail thought, subconsciously rubbing the face of the cat.

'Nah, that would be too unoriginal.'

He looked down at the cat who was having the time of his life.

'….What should I call you?'

Zap!!

Just as he was busy with the thought, a bolt of current ran through his fingers!

"Ah!" He yelled in pain. "Motherfucker!"

The yellow cat looked at him with a bright look in his eyes.

His mouth moved as he mimicked.

"Meowtherfucker!"

'….Fuck my life.'
