Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 11: The Missing Child (Part 1)

Silence is different when a child is missing.

It's louder.

Scene 1: The Report

The room was no longer focused on Ghost Eyes.

Now—

It was urgency.

A photo appeared on the screen.

A young girl.

Nine years old.

Bright smile.

School uniform.

Name: Kim Soo Ah.

Kang Ara stood at the front, her voice steady—but tighter than usual.

"Last seen at 3:20 PM," she said.

"Walking home alone."

Bong Soo frowned. "No guardian?"

"Her mother works late," Ara replied. "She usually makes it home by herself."

Su Young added from her laptop, "CCTV shows her entering the alley near her apartment."

A pause.

"…and then nothing."

Scene 2: Kang Min Observes

Kang Min stood at the back.

Silent.

Listening.

But something about the case—

Didn't sit right.

"Show me the footage," he said.

Scene 3: CCTV Footage

The video played.

Grainy.

Unclear.

But enough.

The little girl walked calmly.

Swinging her bag slightly.

Unaware.

Then—

A shadow passed briefly behind her.

Too fast to identify.

Then—

She was gone.

Scene 4: The Shift

"That's it?" Bong Soo asked.

"That's all we have," Su Young replied.

Ara crossed her arms.

"No struggle. No scream."

Jae In spoke quietly from the side.

"She didn't see it coming."

Scene 5: Kang Min Speaks

"No," Kang Min said.

They all looked at him.

"She did."

A pause.

Ara frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"

Kang Min's eyes remained on the screen.

"She just didn't think it was danger."

Scene 6: At the Mother's House

The atmosphere was heavy.

Oppressive.

The child's mother sat on the couch, eyes swollen, hands shaking.

"Please…" she whispered. "Find her…"

Ara knelt slightly in front of her.

"We will," she said gently.

"Did she mention anything unusual recently?"

The woman shook her head.

"No… she's a good girl… she just goes to school and comes home…"

Her voice broke.

"She wouldn't go with a stranger…"

Scene 7: Realization

Ara's expression shifted slightly.

She stood slowly.

And looked at Kang Min.

Same thought.

Same conclusion.

Scene 8: Outside

"She knew him," Ara said quietly.

"Yes," Kang Min replied.

"Or trusted him."

A pause.

Then—

Ara added:

"Just like the Ghost Eyes victims."

Silence.

Scene 9: Home (Kang Min & Ji Won)

Night.

The apartment was quiet again.

Ji Won sat at the table, doing homework.

Kang Min entered, placing his keys down.

"You're late," she said without looking up.

"Work."

She glanced at him.

"…bad case?"

He paused briefly.

Then—

"Yes."

She closed her book slowly.

"What happened?"

A beat.

Then—

"A child is missing."

Scene 10: Emotional Contrast

Ji Won's expression changed immediately.

"How old?"

"Nine."

Silence filled the room.

Then she spoke softly—

"…that's too young."

Kang Min didn't respond.

Because there was nothing to say.

Scene 11: Their Bond

Ji Won stood and walked over.

"You'll find her," she said.

Not hopeful.

Not questioning.

Certain.

Kang Min looked at her.

A brief moment.

Then—

"I will."

She studied him.

"…you always say that."

"And I always mean it."

A small pause.

Then—

She smiled slightly.

"Then I believe you."

Scene 12: Alone Again

Later that night—

Ji Won slept.

The apartment was silent.

Kang Min stood by the window.

City lights flickering in the distance.

His reflection stared back at him.

But for a moment—

It wasn't just him he saw.

It was—

A memory.

A shadow.

A voice.

"You're a quiet one."

His expression hardened.

Scene 13: Elsewhere

A dim room.

Soft breathing.

A small figure sat in the corner.

The child.

Alive.

Silent.

Watching.

Across from her—

A man sat calmly.

Observing.

Not rushing.

Not panicking.

Just… watching.

Scene 14: The First Hint

On the table beside him—

Photos.

Printed.

Carefully arranged.

Not random.

Not messy.

Familiar.

Too familiar.

One photo showed—

A victim.

Eyes wide open.

Frozen.
