Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7: THE HEADMASTER’S WARNING

The office was colder than the rest of the academy.

Not in temperature—but in presence.

The kind that pressed against your chest and made breathing feel unnecessary.

Seraph stepped in first.

Unbothered.

Unimpressed.

Behind her, Kaelen followed, slower, watchful. Valeria came next, her expression composed but her eyes sharp with restrained fury. The others remained silent, careful not to draw attention.

At the center of the room stood Headmaster Alaric Voss.

Still.

Waiting.

Watching.

The door closed on its own.

A quiet click.

Final.

No one spoke at first.

No one dared.

Then—

"You've turned my academy into a battlefield," Alaric said calmly.

His gaze moved from Valeria… to the injured vampires… then finally—

To Seraph.

"And you," he added, voice lowering slightly, "are at the center of it."

Seraph didn't deny it.

Didn't defend herself.

She simply met his gaze like it meant nothing.

"It wasn't planned," she said.

A lie.

Not entirely.

But enough.

Valeria let out a short, bitter laugh. "You expect us to believe that? She's hiding something. Something unnatural."

Seraph didn't look at her.

Didn't need to.

"You're repeating yourself," she said quietly.

Valeria's composure cracked for a second.

Again.

And that made it worse.

Alaric raised a hand.

Silence returned instantly.

"This is not a place for personal wars," he said. "Whatever grievances you have—leave them outside these walls."

No one responded.

Because everyone knew—

That rule had already been broken.

More than once.

Alaric stepped forward slowly.

His presence shifted with each step, growing heavier.

More focused.

More dangerous.

Until he stopped directly in front of Seraph.

"You've drawn attention," he said. "The kind this academy cannot afford."

Seraph's expression didn't change.

"That's not my problem."

A mistake.

The air tightened instantly.

Even Kaelen's posture shifted slightly, sensing the shift.

Alaric's eyes darkened.

"For now… it is."

Silence.

Then—

He reached out.

Fast.

Not to strike.

To test.

His hand stopped inches from her shoulder—

And froze.

Something blocked him.

Not visibly.

But undeniably.

A force.

Cold.

Unyielding.

Alive.

For the first time—

Alaric's expression changed.

Not much.

Just enough.

Interest.

Then—

He pulled his hand back.

Slowly.

Carefully.

"You're… contained," he said.

Seraph tilted her head slightly.

"Was that supposed to mean something?"

"It means," he replied, "you are not fully awakened."

That—

Landed.

Not outwardly.

But inside.

Deep.

Seraph said nothing.

But Kaelen noticed.

That slight pause.

That almost-reaction.

And he filed it away.

Carefully.

Alaric turned away from her.

Walking back toward his desk.

"Whatever you are," he continued, "you are incomplete."

Valeria smirked faintly at that.

Until—

"You are not exempt from that statement, Miss Draven."

Her smile vanished.

Instantly.

"No one here is as powerful as they believe."

A pause.

Then softer—

"And some of you are far more dangerous than you appear."

His gaze flickered briefly toward Seraph again.

Not accusing.

Not hostile.

Observing.

Calculating.

Like a man looking at something rare—

And deciding whether to protect it…

Or destroy it.

"Leave," he said finally.

No argument.

No discussion.

Just dismissal.

The tension broke.

Slowly.

One by one, they turned toward the door.

But before Seraph stepped out—

Alaric spoke again.

"Miss Blackwood."

She stopped.

Barely.

"Be careful," he said. "Some things are not meant to be found."

A pause.

Then—

"Especially by you."

Seraph didn't turn.

Didn't respond.

She simply walked out.

Like the warning meant nothing.

But it stayed with her.

Whether she wanted it to or not.

Outside, the hallway felt different.

Quieter.

Heavier.

Kaelen caught up with her easily.

"You heard him," he said. "You're not fully awakened."

Seraph kept walking.

"And?"

"You're already this strong."

A beat.

"What happens when you're not holding back anymore?"

She stopped.

Turned slightly.

Just enough to meet his gaze.

"You won't be around to find out."

Not a threat.

A fact.

Then she walked again.

Leaving him standing there—

With that same feeling.

That same pull.

That same dangerous curiosity.

Behind them—

Valeria watched everything.

Silent.

Still.

But her mind was moving fast.

Calculating.

Planning.

Because this wasn't over.

Not even close.

And this time—

She wouldn't lose.

Not again.

Not like that.

Deep beneath the academy…

The chains tightened.

Then loosened.

Just slightly.

A crack spread across the seal.

Slow.

Quiet.

Unnoticed.

"For now…" the voice whispered in the darkness.

"But not for long."

Something shifted.

Something ancient.

And somewhere far above—

Seraph paused mid-step.

Just for a second.

As if she felt it.

As if something inside her…

Was answering back.
