Chapter 19 - UA.. your journey begins- nah I’m doing too much

—Spring—

I woke up late.

"UH OH!" I jumped out of bed and quickly ate some toast, brushed my teeth while changing and slipped into Nezu's office.

Nezu was there waiting for me. "Why don't you come with me to the entrance ceremony. You'll be late to your classroom anyways so meet them there."

'They are meant to be going to the training grounds right now. Either way I already cashed in on my favour to skip the testing with the others. I had actually done it the day before with Aizawa.'

"Okay! Got it!" I followed Nezu down and found my seat.

Everyone then walked in from the first year faculty (no Aizawa or All Might) and the first years themselves (no one from class 1-A but me).

It was nothing for me to concern myself with. Just an introduction of all the teachers and their courses.

How boring…

—Meanwhile—

The class of 1-A synchronised. "A TEST OF OUR QUIRKS?!?"

Ururaka chimed in. "What about the entrance ceremony or guidance sessions?!"

To which Aizawa replied. "No time to waste on that stuff if you want to become heroes." He turned his head. "UA is known for its 'freestyle' educational system. That applies to us teachers as well."

He was met with blank stares.

"The softball throwing, the 50 metre dash, the standing long jump, grip strength etc… You did all of these in middle school, yes? Your standard no-quirks-allowed tests right?"

"This country still insists on prohibiting quirks when calculating the averages of those records. It's not rational. The department of education is just procrastinating."

"Bakugo. How far could you throw in middle school?"

"67 meters." (Canonically what he said, sorry not sorry).

"Great. Now try it with your quirk. Do whatever you need to. Just don't leave the circle."

After seeing Bakugo throw his ball with his quirk Ashido exclaimed. "WOAH!! THIS IS AWESOME!!"

Aizawa immediately caught that. "Awesome, you say. You're hoping to become heroes after three years here. And you think it'll be all fun and games?"

He looked at the class. "Right. The one with the lowest score across all eight events will be judged as hopeless… and expelled."

Yaoyorozu then cut in. "But sir, one of our class isn't here. What will happens to them?"

Aizawa smiled. "Don't worry about them… worry about yourselves. I've already gotten his score."

—After the events were over—

Aizawa stood in front of the class. "Moving along, time for the results. Your total score simply reflect your performance in each of the events. Explaining the process would be a waste of time, so all you get are the final rankings."

He pressed a button on a remote he had pulled out. "Also I was lying about expelling someone. That was a rational deception… meant to bring out the best in you."

The rankings were projected by Aizawa's remote as he handed Midoriya a paper slip for Recovery Girl's healing.

The rankings were:

1. Takaba Kurusu

2. Momo Yaoyorozu

3. Shoto Todoroki

4. Katsuki Bakugo

5. Tenya Iida

6. Fumikage Tokoyami

7. Mezo Shoji

8. Mashirao Ojiro

9. Eijiro Kirishima

10. Mina Ashido

11. Ochako Uraraka

12. Rikido Sato

13. Tsuyu Asui

14. Yuga Aoyama

15. Hanta Sero

16. Denki Kaminari

17. Kyoka Jiro

18. Toru Hagakure

19. Minoru Mineta

20. Izuku Midoriya

Aizawa was already walking off.

—Meanwhile—

'Where on earth is this class?'

The ceremony had finished and I was out looking for Aizawa.

'There he is. Is he talking to All Might?'

I approached to hear All Might say. "That boy, Midoriya… you sense potential in him as well, yes?!?"

To which Aizawa replied. "As well? You will be supporting him..? I understand that's not usually your style, but… he doesn't have… no chance. That's all I can say."

"Because if he had no prospects, I would cut him loose. There's nothing crueler than letting someone chase their half-baked dreams."

Aizawa continued walking.

"Right… let's agree to disagree." All Might said while straightening his shirt.

I then popped my head out of his chest. "So you like Midoriya huh?"

"Of course."

"So you like minors?"

"Well- WAIT A MINUTE! Who is there?!" He looked around.

"I am here, look down." I had already left my portal to be standing in front of him. He's so huge I doubt he could see me anyway.

"Ah! Young Takaba! I noticed you weren't with the rest of your class what were you doing! Being tardy is not fit for a hero!" He flashed a smile.

"Oh I was just at the entrance ceremony… you know… where you should've been." I looked at him, with a deadpan expression.

'Eh? Where's the cute boy Midnight told me about?"

He coughed.

"I'll be off then" I used a portal to slip into my room.

All alone I decided to visit Power Loader. "Hey there can you give me the design of a gauntlet that covers my lower arm and hand that turns into a sheild at the click of a button?"

An explosion went off beside me.

Power Loader replied. "Sure, also ignore the new support course student in the back."

He handed me a blueprint. "Already? Thanks."

"I already had the same idea years ago. This is an updated version however."

"Thanks." I repeated before slipping away.

'I would say the first day was a success.'

What wasn't a success however, was my hero costume. I had a new sketch with a foldable wingspan but I hadn't created it yet.

I pulled out my phone.

'1 pm huh? Ehh that's more than enough time.'

—8 hours later—

'Dear God.'

I was sweating and panting in the middle of my domain.

"Finally… done… phew." I lay down.

"Hey no sleeping in the domain Takaba. You don't want to gain a tail this time." Nezu walked over and prodded me with his foot. "And take a shower while you're at it."

We vanished out of the domain. "Yeah I'll shower now."

Apparently Nemuri had been waiting for me as she came over and sniffed me. "Yeah definitely shower, I can't sleep next to that."

"Geez, I'm going I'm going." I then slipped into the shower.

—Nemuri and Nezu POV—

"Let's take a peek at his costume."

"Agreed."

—The next day—

I arrived to class last but I just slipped in anyway.

No one noticed.

'Great, I can relax and not have to worry about socialising…'

First lesson was English with Present Mic.

"Now which of these four sentences has a mistake?"

The only person whose hand shot up was Yaoyorozu's. As always. She had answered the past four questions. Never mind the class, even Present Mic was getting bored.

Mic looked around before grinning and pointing directly at me.

'There goes my cover. Honestly, all this just because I won't show up on his radio station anymore..'

"Takaba hit me!"

All heads simultaneously turned towards me.

'They know.'

"The fourth one."

"COOREECCTTT!" He turned back towards the board. However, once he turned back after 3 seconds most of the class was still looking at me like I killed their mom or something.

"Hey guys! Grammar rules okay?!"

Yeah, he is not salvaging this lesson now. They all did turn their heads back though.

Once the lesson was over I headed to the main cafeteria. And when I say headed I mean I slipped before I could get ambushed by the class.

'Heh.'

I had conveniently forgotten that we now shared a lunch hall.

After class 1-A had entered the hall Mina immediately spotted me. I guess my bright blue hair wasn't doing me any favours.

Ashido and the red haired guy sat down next to me. I slightly knew Ashido since she used to text me like there was no tomorrow but I rarely used my phone and didn't reply as much as I should've.

"Hey there Kurusu! Both me and Kirishima were wondering where you were."

"Hi, so is this red haired guy Kirishima?" I looked up from me meal.

Mina clapped her hands together. "Ah right! You don't know him but he also went to our middle school!"

"Sorry for not recognising you. I only talked to two people throughout middle school."

"Don't worry man! I dyed my hair anyways and I only ever heard of you through the boys network." He grinned. "Well done on getting first as always, that's pretty manly!"

"Manly huh? I've never been described as that." I scratched the back of my head.

"You kidding me, but you're so strong! Surely your mom tells you that."

"Unfortunately it's quite the opposite. She thinks I'm her personal plushie, or at least that's how she treats me." I got back to eating my white rice. Completely plain by the way.

'Did I forget to grab anything else?'

The table fell quiet before a little crowd appeared next to me.

"Can we sit here?" It was the rest of the class' girls.

They either want to talk to Mina (probable). Or talk to me (please don't).

After sitting down they introduced themselves.

"I'm Toru Hagakure! In case you couldn't tell my quirk's invisiblity!"

I looked at her intently.

'Judging by the proportions of her shoulders her eyes should be…. There! Alright note that down.'

Present Mic had taught me to look people in the eyes when talking, especially during your first meeting.

"Uhhh why are you looking at me like that?" She shuffled away.

"I was just estimating-"

"Hey!" She squealed, covering her chest with her arms.

"Oh… right sorry, I'm not used to… never mind I was trying to calculate where your eyes were so it's easier to talk you." I cast my eyes down.

'Uh oh.'

"Oh that's fine! Only my parents have ever tried to find my eye level." She said cheerfully before scooting back over.

"You told me your quirk so I'll tell you mine. I can place portals."

I then placed my hand through the table and onto the back of her shoulder where I tapped it.

"AAH!" She shouted once she turned her head to see a waving hand.

I quickly pulled back my hand. "There you go."

Ashido stood up. "What?! I thought your quirk was about being a cat or something!"

"Common misconception, my ears aren't didn't directly stem from my quirk."

Ashido then reached forward. "So are they real?"

"Hey! Very real!" I grabbed them with one ear in each hand as they ducked down.

Yaoyorozu then leant forward. "Hey Takaba I'm planning on making a class 1-A group chat so could you give me your phone number?"

"Sure." I then droned off my phone number from memory.

Ashido quickly cut in. "You started to actually use your phone now?"

"Uh. I guess I use it more." I was shaking due to her stare.

"You better not take more than three days to respond to a message since we're in the same class now." She looked down on me as I shrunk back.

"G-got it."

"I think you're scaring him Mina. Ribbit."

'Yes! The hell is she so scary for.'

The bell rung and we all made it back to class together. Only joking! I had immediately teleported to the classroom to avoid Ashido's gaze. Luckily when she reappeared she was back to normal.

After a minute of waiting with the rest of the class a rumbling sound came from outside the hallway ending with a SKREEEEETCH.

The door suddenly opened and a booming voice said. "I AM HERE-"

At this point he was too loud for me so I put in some noice cancelling ear pieces. They were slightly uncomfortable since my ears are sensitive and the ear pieces were pretty sizeable.

I watched in silence as All Might gripped the frame of the door and leant in. He then moved robotically towards the board before flexing and taking out a card that said 'BATTLE' on it.

He then pointed towards the wall where cases were coming out of it.

'Hero costumes?'

I took out my ear pieces to hear. "Training ground beta!"

I immediately slipped into my domain after grabbing my suit by using a portal and put it on.

Once I slipped out at ground beta All Might was there standing proud with a smile on his face.

I was wearing baggy, black trousers, a skin tight suit underneath with a baggy, orange hoodie on top. My hands were covered in a metallic gauntlet that could transform into a sheild. My shoes were typical walking boots with black soles and a red top. They were tailored for me however, and came with little flame boosters to help me accelerate mid fight.

The buttons for commands were all inside my hoodie pocket which stretched across my lower belly.

A special feature of my gauntlets allowed for the tips of the fingers to come out like a connected cap. While they were like this I could curl my knuckles to bring them closer.

They were built like this so I could easily press buttons without having to place my hands into my pocket, using portals of course.

By now everyone had walked out looking flashy…

… apart from Midoriya. He looked… never mind.

——

After a bit of back and forth that I didn't listen to, the gist was this.

Teams of 2 in a 2v2. Villains vs Heroes. The villains objective was to keep a bomb safe until the time ran out while the heroes objective was to touch the bomb before the time ran out.

After drawing lots the teams were this:

Team A: Midoriya and Ururaka

Team B: Shoji and Todoroki

Team C: Mineta and Yaoyorozu

Team D: Bakugo and Iida

Team E: Ashido and Aoyama

Team F: Kurusu and Sato

Team G: Jiro and Kaminari

Team H: Asui and Tokoyami

Team I: Hagakure and Ojiro

Team J: Kirishima and Sero

The games were:

(Villains vs Heroes)

1st Fight: Team D vs Team A (Team A wins)

2nd Fight: Team I vs Team B (Team B wins)

3rd Fight: Team J vs Team H (Team H wins [authors guess])

4th Fight: Team G vs Team C (Team G wins [authors guess])

5th Fight: Team F vs Team E (next chapter)

My fight was the final fight. Cool, I can fall asleep until it's my turn. And that I did…

A/N: Some fights weren't displayed or show as to who won. Also I ain't putting allat yap or describing the fights (apart from Takaba's) so go watch the show or read the manga if you wanna know.

But about the physical exam, if you want to know how Takaba did, I don't mind making a short bonus chapter to describe it.
