Chapter 319: The Remaining Six
Zone Eight was a twin-seam zone.
Two runs of old stone, both at the same depth, running parallel to each other for roughly two hundred meters before the terrain pushed them apart. Between them, a gap — not empty, but filled with a different type of material, softer, more settled, like old rubble that had been pressed slowly over a very long time. A fault line, probably. Something that had cracked and been filled in by time.
The developing entity used all of it.
Kai felt this on his first descent. Not one section and then the other — both at once. The carrier function read the entity's presence in the left seam, and then the right, and then something that crossed the gap between them that was neither seam and both at once. Like a bridge the entity had built inside the stone, connecting its two territories without fully occupying the space between them.
He surfaced after thirty minutes.
