Chapter 18 – Her Voice in the Silence

The CD was small, unassuming, but everyone knew what it carried: Care. Her voice. Her heart.

The soft crackle of the CD started, and slowly, her voice filled the room.

"Hi… it's me…"

Even that simple greeting made the air tremble. She sounded fragile in a way that made it impossible not to cry.

"I… I know you're all hurting. And I know… I'm not there. But I wanted you to hear me. Please… please listen."

Her voice broke, a small sob escaping. The room froze. Every letter, every word, carried the weight of someone who had lived so fiercely and yet had been taken too soon.

"I… I wanted to tell you… thank you. Thank you for being my family when I had none. You… you were my strength, my joy, my reason to keep going when the world felt too heavy."

Tears pressed against eyes as each person—Lyra, Nova, Ben, Cole, Ash, Daisy—gripped the edge of their chairs or the envelopes in their hands. Breathing was shallow, hearts tight, emotions raw.

"Please… please stay together. Don't let my absence… break the bond we built. You all… you all are amazing, stronger than you know. Achieve your dreams… for yourselves… but also for me. For us."

Her voice cracked again, small tears audible in the recording.

"I… I'm crying while recording this… because I love you. So much… more than words can hold. And I want you to remember me not in sorrow… but in every laugh, every struggle, every success. Live, my friends… live, and be incredible. And… don't forget me."

The recording ended with a quiet sniffle, then silence. But the room was not empty—it was filled with the echo of her voice, her presence, her love.

No one moved. None wanted to disturb the fragile bubble of connection she had left. Every heartbeat became a whisper, a memory of her laughter, her arguments, her warmth.

Lyra's hands shook as she clutched her envelope. She whispered, barely audible, "She… she's still with us. Every word… every breath… she's here."

Nova's eyes were wet, staring at the CD player as if it could bring her back. "She believed in us… even now. She's… still guiding us."

Ben pressed the letter to his lips. "She… she made us a family. And she trusted us to keep it together… even without her."

Cole sat in the corner, jaw tight, tears rolling down his cheeks. "She… she was my rival… my anchor… my everything. And she trusted me… to carry her forward. Even now…"

Ash leaned forward, hands trembling, sobbing quietly. "My soul sister… she's… she's still protecting me. Still loving me. Even like this."

Daisy buried her face in her hands. "She… she wanted us to see her as strong, but she was just a girl… and she still fought. For us… for herself… for all of us. And she… she made us stronger too."

For a long time, no one spoke. Tears fell, hearts heavy and broken, but somehow held together by the fragile thread Care had left. Her voice was no longer just sound—it was memory, love, guidance, and courage.

In the quiet, it became clear: this was her final gift. Not a grand gesture, not a farewell, but the purest, rawest essence of herself. She had left the roadmap to live, to laugh, to fight, and to remember.

Everyone would honor it. They had to.

Even in death, Care remained the strongest. Not because she had survived, but because she had left strength in all of them.

Her words lingered like a heartbeat in the room, soft and steady, calling everyone to move forward, to live, to love, and to remember.

They would never forget her. Not ever.
