Maya couldn't speak.
Her mind was spinning, trying to hold onto something that kept slipping away.
"I… I don't remember," she said softly.
Arjun looked at her, not with anger—but with a quiet sadness he had carried for a long time.
"I know," he replied.
The air felt heavier now.
Cars passed by, people walked around them—but for Maya, everything seemed distant and blurred.
"Then tell me," Maya said, her voice shaking.
"What happened that day?"
Arjun took a deep breath.
"It was raining… just like today," he began.
Two Years Ago
Maya was laughing.
She stood under the same bus stop, holding the same notebook—but her eyes were brighter, lighter.
Arjun stood beside her, completely soaked.
"You're going to catch a cold," Maya said.
Arjun smiled.
"I like the rain too much to care."
Maya rolled her eyes.
"You're impossible."
They both laughed.
That day, they talked for hours.
About stories, dreams, and everything in between.
Maya told him about her dream—to become a writer.
Arjun told her something strange.
"If you ever forget me," he said jokingly,
"just write about me. Stories never forget."
Maya smiled.
"I won't forget you," she said.
But fate had other plans.
Back to Present
Arjun's voice became quieter.
"After that… we started meeting every day," he said.
"Same place. Same time. Same rain."
Maya felt tears forming in her eyes.
"Then what happened?" she asked.
Arjun looked down.
"That day… it was raining the hardest."
Flashback
Maya was crossing the road.
She turned back and waved at Arjun.
"Wait for me!" she shouted.
A loud sound.
A sudden scream.
Brakes.
Everything happened too fast.
Present
Maya's heart started racing.
"No…" she whispered.
Arjun closed his eyes.
"There was an accident," he said.
Maya stepped back slightly.
Her hands began to tremble.
"You were unconscious for days," Arjun continued.
"When you woke up…"
He looked at her.
"You didn't remember me."
Tears rolled down Maya's cheeks.
"I searched for you," Arjun said.
"But your family moved away."
The rain started again—soft, slow, almost like it was listening.
"I came back here every year," Arjun said.
"On this same day."
Maya's voice broke.
"And today…?"
Arjun looked at her gently.
"Today, you came back."
