Completely oblivious that he had walked into a trap, Ash still thought Karen just needed his help to win a battle. He had no idea this was actually a test for him. After all, the Karen family specialized in Dark-type Pokémon; if their future son-in-law couldn't handle Dark-types, they'd never agree to the match.
When Ash, Karen, and the biker gang arrived at the designated location, Karen slung an arm around Ash's shoulder. "This is my subordinate, Ash. He's a rookie trainer who just started his journey. Does he fit your criteria?"
The men opposite them glanced at the Pikachu on Ash's shoulder, and the Meowth and Chansey standing beside him, and nodded.
"No problem. But please don't forget, Karen. In this battle, you are strictly limited to Dark-type Pokémon."
"Of course. My subordinate specifically brought his Dark-types to help me out."
"Excellent. Hello, young man. I am Cologne, and this is my assistant, Nando."
Seeing Cologne introduce himself, Ash replied politely, "Hello. I'm Ash from Pallet Town. I just recently started my journey, and Karen asked me to come help out this time."
Seeing how polite Ash was, Cologne was slightly taken aback before smiling and shaking his head. Just another starry-eyed youngster who idolizes Karen, like those biker punks.
In that case, it was necessary to teach him the harsh cruelty of Pokémon battles.
"This will be a best-of-three match. Karen, considering your status, if your subordinate is defeated, it counts as your loss."
"Naturally, that was the agreement."
Seeing Karen agree so readily, Cologne and Nando exchanged a look before tossing their Poké Balls.
"Hitmon!"
"Chan!"
Out came some of Ash's old acquaintances—a Hitmonlee and a Hitmonchan. As soon as their Pokémon were out, Cologne and Nando locked their gazes onto Ash. Their intentions couldn't be more obvious.
Heh, Fighting-types, huh. Then I won't hold back either. "Go, Honchkrow!"
"Then I'll play my part too. Go, Mightyena!"
Hearing Ash say 'Mightyena', Cologne and Nando exchanged smug looks. This is in the bag! Their plan was incredibly simple: completely ignore Karen and focus fire on Ash's Pokémon. Their Pokémon were at the peak of the Elite tier. Taking out some rookie's Pokémon would be like taking candy from a baby.
However, when Karen's Honchkrow and Ash's Mightyena materialized, both of their faces turned green.
"Waahh!"
"Awooo!"
The sheer, terrifying malice radiating from Mightyena the moment it appeared caused even the Fighting-type Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan to physically recoil a few steps in intimidation.
"Chan..."
Staring at Ash's fiercely vicious Mightyena, Cologne realized he might have kicked a steel plate. While Cologne and Nando were internally panicking over Mightyena's strength, the referee raised his hand. "First round! Honchkrow and Mightyena versus Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee! Begin!"
"Go! Hitmonchan, use Mach Punch on Mightyena!"
"Go, Hitmonlee! High Jump Kick on Mightyena!"
"Chan!"
"Hitmon!"
Following their masters' orders, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee unleashed their signature moves and charged directly at Mightyena. Seeing this, Karen knew exactly what they were trying to do.
If this were a normal person, they might have a problem... but this is Ash.
"Honchkrow, Wing Attack."
"Waah!"
Honchkrow's wings glowed white as it dove straight toward Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. Seeing Karen's Honchkrow intercepting, Nando quickly shouted, "Hitmonchan, use Protect to block it!"
"Chan!"
A green, hexagonal barrier formed in front of Hitmonchan, effectively blocking Honchkrow's attack. Cologne grinned excitedly. "We got him!"
"Did you? Mightyena, Sand Attack."
Upon Ash's command, Mightyena, who had already been preparing, kicked up a massive wave of sand straight into Hitmonlee's eyes. Blinded, Hitmonlee's High Jump Kick completely missed, and Mightyena easily sidestepped it.
At that moment, Ash grabbed a mask from Meowth, secured it over his face, and lowered his voice into a chilling growl. "Mightyena. Deep Bite."
"ROAR!"
With a savage roar, Mightyena lunged forward, locking its jaws firmly onto Hitmonlee. It then began thrashing its head violently, tearing and ripping at the Fighting-type. Ash's biker gang erupted into cheers.
"There it is! Boss's Mightyena's signature move! Deep Bite! That's the move where it bites down and ruthlessly thrashes the enemy to pieces!"
"Ohhhhh!!!"
"What?!"
Cologne never expected his Hitmonlee's attack to be countered by a simple Sand Attack, and now his Pokémon was pinned to the ground, being relentlessly mauled by Mightyena.
"Hitmonchan, support Hitmonlee! Use Mach Punch!"
Seeing his boss's Hitmonlee immobilized, Nando immediately ordered Hitmonchan to help. However, he had completely forgotten about a crucial factor.
"I'd be very troubled if you forgot about me. Honchkrow, Aerial Ace!"
"Waah!"
"Oh no!"
As Honchkrow blurred past Hitmonchan with blinding speed, the Fighting-type lost consciousness and collapsed to the floor. Seeing Karen finish off Hitmonchan, Ash gave his next order. "Mightyena. Throw him up, then use Giga Impact."
Hearing Ash, Mightyena, who was still viciously mauling Hitmonlee, forcefully flung the Fighting-type high into the air. As Hitmonlee began to fall, Mightyena slammed into him with devastating force.
BOOM!
With a massive crash, Hitmonlee was smashed into the arena wall, sliding down unconscious and motionless.
"First round! Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are unable to battle! The winners are Honchkrow and Mightyena!"
Cologne stared at his Hitmonlee, completely defeated by a Dark-type Pokémon. He looked at Ash in disbelief. But when he saw the mask on Ash's face, his pupils constricted.
"A mask with a malicious smile... you... you're..."
"Let me reintroduce myself. I am Ash, a rookie trainer from Pallet Town. And simultaneously... the Dark-type trainer, the Alpha Wolf."
