But what if that kid throws off their coat, and you realize they're actually a massively ripped bodybuilder who was just pretending to be a kid, and they've already set you up for absolute annihilation? How would you feel then?
That's exactly how Cologne was feeling right now. He thought he was just going to crush some kid to secure his engagement with Karen, but now he realized he was the actual kid here.
The Alpha Wolf. Although this name was famous in the Dark-type circles, Cologne was, after all, trying to marry Karen. Naturally, he had investigated her circle of friends. Putting aside Elite Four members like Lorelei and Sidney, the most mysterious one was the Alpha Wolf, whose true face no one had ever seen. The name 'Ash' was indeed in the files, but it was usually just a passing mention, like 'Karen's lackey' or 'follower'. Now Cologne finally understood. The one hiding the deepest was actually this so-called 'lackey'!
"Karen... this wasn't part of the agreement, was it...?"
That was the only thing Cologne could manage to say. Karen just smiled at him, hooked her arm around Ash's, and said, "Ash isn't an Elite Four member, is he? He's just a rookie trainer. He's just protecting me."
Ash, still wearing his mask, looked at Cologne and said, "Alright, Mr. Cologne. Let's continue our match."
Cologne stared at Ash. For some reason, the more he looked at that mask, the more he felt like its malicious smile was specifically mocking him.
"If that's the case... then let's settle this with one final battle. A 4v4."
Hearing Cologne's proposal, Ash looked at Karen. "Are you okay with this?"
Karen grinned. "Of course. Actually, this makes things much easier!"
"Go!"
"I originally thought I wouldn't need to use the Pokémon I borrowed from the elders, but it seems I made the right call! I'm counting on you two!"
Cologne hurled two Poké Balls, and a Kommo-o and a Hariyama materialized before everyone.
"Well? This is an Elite-level Kommo-o!"
"Ohhhhh!!! Elite-level!!!"
The appearance of an Elite-level Kommo-o sent the entire arena into a boiling frenzy. Seeing the Kommo-o, Misty couldn't help but remember that guy named A. She had heard that after his interrogation, he had died due to 'ineffective emergency treatment'.
"A Kommo-o... I wonder how he'd feel if he knew Ash had just recently beaten the crap out of an entire team of Pseudo-Legendaries..."
Hearing Misty, Misa, the girl with the punk haircut, immediately piped up. "Misty, are you saying the guy who beat up six Elite-level Pseudo-Legendaries at the wild Pokémon reserve was Ash?!"
"Uh...? Never mind. If you're talking about the reserve, then yes, that was Ash."
"That's so awesome! Brothers! Cheer for Ash!"
"Yeah!!!"
"Ash! Ash! Ash!"
Hearing his underlings cheering so passionately, Ash looked at the peak-Elite Machamp and Mienshao that Nando had sent out.
"Alright. Since that's the case, Mightyena, return to me for now."
"Bark!"
Hearing Ash's call, Mightyena quickly retreated and lay quietly by his side. Karen, who had already sent out her Umbreon, smiled and asked, "Are you really going to use him?"
"Hmph. Isn't this exactly what you've been waiting for?"
Hearing Ash say this, Karen offered a meaningful smile.
"My, my. It seems my little schemes have been exposed."
"I'm not an idiot. But fine, whatever. I am a carnivore, after all. And I am the Alpha Wolf! Go, Houndoom! Absol!"
When Ash's Houndoom and Absol took the field, the entire arena plunged into sudden silence. Ash's Houndoom was fine—it was 'only' Elite-level. No one was surprised that the Alpha Wolf's Houndoom possessed such strength. But Ash's Absol was an entirely different story.
Absol had completely unleashed its aura, an aura so overwhelming that even the Elite-level Kommo-o was forced to take a few steps back. What that signified was self-evident.
"Champion-level!"
