Chapter 26 - The Second train

The station was quieter than Adam expected.

A thin fog clung to the tracks, and the dim lights above flickered as if they were struggling to stay awake. Aria leaned against a metal pillar, lazily spinning a coin between her fingers.

"Another train?" she asked. "Didn't the last one almost get us killed?"

Adam didn't answer immediately. His eyes moved across the platform, observing everything—the passengers, the guards, the security cameras.

"Coincidences rarely repeat themselves," he said calmly.

Aria raised an eyebrow. "That sounds like a yes."

Adam finally looked at the train slowly approaching the platform.

The number painted on its side made his eyes narrow slightly.

"…Interesting."

Aria noticed the change in his expression. "What?"

Adam adjusted his bag and stepped forward.

"This train wasn't supposed to be here."

The train doors opened with a metallic hiss.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Adam spoke quietly.

"Aria."

"Yeah?"

He stepped inside.

"Stay close."

Aria grinned.

"Wasn't planning to leave anyway."

Behind them, on a security monitor inside the station control room, a man watched the two figures board the train.

He picked up a phone.

"The target has boarded," he said calmly.

"Begin phase two."
