Chapter 24 - fate

Jin parked Harley's motorcycle outside and returned to his luxurious manor. As soon as he approached the entrance, he saw Harley standing at the doorway waiting for him.

Harley glanced at the watch on her wrist, crossed her arms over her chest, and said with a slightly annoyed expression,

"You're late. Where were you fooling around this time?"

Jin walked up to her and secretly hid something behind his back.

"Don't rush to get angry. First, look at what I brought for you."

A bouquet of roses suddenly appeared before Harley's eyes.

In an instant, Harley's heart melted. Her earlier anger disappeared immediately, and she returned to her usual love-struck state.

"You're the best, Jin!"

She happily kissed Jin on the cheek, then hugged the bouquet tightly and walked back into the house.

Completely forgetting that Jin had originally gone out to buy supplies for their new home.

"Jingle~"

At that moment, Jin's phone rang inside his pocket.

He took it out and saw that it was Bruce calling.

"What's up, Bruce?"

"Jin, there's a party tonight at Wayne Manor," Bruce said. "We're celebrating the election of Gotham's new mayor. Want to drop by?"

Jin thought about it for a moment. Since he didn't have anything else planned anyway, he simply agreed.

Soon afterward, Jin changed into a formal black suit and headed toward Wayne Manor.

The banquet was filled with Gotham's most influential figures—wealthy nobles, politicians, and powerful businessmen.

While walking through the crowd, Jin suddenly noticed a familiar figure.

A faint smile appeared on his face as he approached.

Selina was sitting at the bar, wearing an elegant black evening dress while slowly sipping a glass of red wine.

Then she heard Jin's voice behind her.

"Long time no see, ma'am."

"It seems fate likes bringing us together."

Selina raised her charming eyes slightly. A faint smile curved across her red lips.

"It does seem like fate."

She lightly patted the seat beside her.

"Come sit. Drink with me."

Naturally, Jin didn't refuse.

"So," Jin asked casually, "what brings you here tonight?"

After all, Selina wasn't part of Gotham's upper class, nor was she rich enough to be invited to such a formal event.

Selina chuckled softly.

"I came on my own."

"I simply found some unlucky guy and borrowed his invitation."

Jin immediately understood what she meant.

Borrowed.

In other words… stole it.

After all, that was something Catwoman was very good at.

Some poor man in Gotham had probably just realized his invitation was missing.

Selina leaned closer and whispered playfully,

"Everyone here is rich."

"Which means… tonight's harvest is pretty good."

As she spoke, she secretly took out several precious gemstones, along with a few expensive necklaces and watches, showing them only to Jin.

Then, with a playful smile, she slipped them into her dress.

Jin couldn't help smiling.

He calmly finished the red wine in his glass.

Then he suddenly leaned forward, gently holding Selina's face.

And kissed her.

"Mmm…"

Selina didn't resist at all.

On the contrary, she seemed to enjoy it slightly.

Many guests at the party noticed the scene. Seeing the handsome man and the elegant beauty together, no one dared interrupt such a romantic moment.

"It seems this celebration party has turned into their private world."

Bruce stood nearby, shaking his head with a helpless smile.

Beside him, Alfred watched the scene with a rather emotional expression.

After all, he had watched Jin grow up.

Seeing him now standing there with such a beautiful woman made Alfred feel strangely proud.

Perhaps one day Jin might even marry her.

Alfred quietly glanced at Bruce beside him.

Then he sighed inwardly.

He wondered when his young master would finally settle down and start a family.

Although there had been Dick and Jason, Alfred still hoped the Wayne family would continue through its own bloodline.

At this rate…

The future of the Wayne family seemed rather uncertain.

Not long before the party.

Somewhere deep within Gotham City.

Inside a hidden chamber, a group of people wearing owl masks sat around a square table lit by candlelight.

Though a lavish dinner had been prepared, no one touched the food.

They were discussing something far more important.

"There have been far too many pests in Gotham recently."

"They seem to have forgotten who truly rules this city."

"Who the real masters of Gotham are."

At the head of the table sat an elderly woman, clearly the leader.

A middle-aged man spoke next.

"In recent months, vigilantes have appeared everywhere."

"They believe they stand above the law."

"They have no respect for the Court."

A young woman spoke with irritation in her voice.

"It seems we must teach them a lesson."

"We must remind them who truly judges Gotham."

"I agree." ×N

Many members voiced their approval.

After all, they were the Court of Owls—an ancient organization that believed itself to be the true ruler of Gotham.

The appearance of Batman, Jin, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl had clearly challenged their authority.

The elderly leader slowly nodded.

"If that is the case…"

"Send out the Talons."

"Eliminate everyone who dares to oppose us."

She then quietly recited an old rhyme:

"Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time,

Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch behind granite and lime.

They watch you at your hearth,

They watch you in your bed.

Speak not a whispered word of them,

Or they'll send the Talon for your head."

No one in Gotham realized it yet.

But starting tonight…

Blood would once again begin to flow in the city.

And a new storm was approaching Gotham.
