Chapter 16 - an appointment

At an outdoor café in Gotham City, Barbara finally found some free time to meet Jin.

Because of her long battle against crime, opportunities like this were rare. But Jin was the boy she liked, and time alone was not enough to weaken her feelings.

"Hmm…"

Barbara narrowed her eyes and carefully observed Jin. As one of Batman's partners, she had learned some detective skills from him.

From her observation, Jin's condition seemed even worse than the last time they met. The dark circles under his eyes were large and extremely obvious.

"Jin, have you been staying up late a lot recently?"

Hearing this, Jin paused while drinking his coffee. From the corner of his eye, he couldn't help glancing at Black Lily, who was also drinking coffee at another table.

Barbara… you probably have no idea what I've been through these past three days.

In the morning there was Harley, and in the evening there was Black Lily.

Even if he was as strong as a super soldier, he still couldn't endure it. What kind of man could handle that five times a week—sometimes even two at once?

It was practically like working overtime every day.

"Ah… well… recently I got a little addicted to chess," Jin said awkwardly. "Sometimes I stay up late playing."

Barbara frowned when she heard this. Burning out his body like that couldn't be good.

"You shouldn't do that," she said seriously. "Don't ruin your health because of a game. You should rest more."

"Haha… I understand."

Jin forced a smile and quickly changed the topic.

Ever since Harley found out that Black Lily was staying in his apartment, she had immediately moved in as well.

Now the three of them were squeezed into one room and one bed.

What should have been simple intimacy had somehow turned into a ridiculous competition between the two women.

And in the end, Jin was the one who suffered the most.

Damn… if the system could give me unlimited energy when I sign in, that would be perfect.

That way everyone would be satisfied.

At that moment, someone suddenly spoke.

"Handsome boy, if you don't mind… would you like to have a drink with me?"

For some reason, Black Lily had walked over on her own. She pulled out a chair, sat beside Jin, and leaned slightly toward him.

Her body was very close to his, and her lips moved near his ear.

"I'm helping you guard the gate, boss. That's one of a subordinate's duties."

Hearing this, Jin glared at her.

It was exactly because of Black Lily stirring up trouble that Harley had moved into his apartment, leading to this painful yet strangely happy life.

Barbara, meanwhile, saw the strange woman with the unusual skin tone leaning so close to Jin.

Her expression immediately turned cold.

"Snap!"

She slammed the table and stood up abruptly.

But the sudden noise made everyone in the café look over.

Barbara's face instantly turned red with embarrassment, and she quickly sat back down.

"Who are you?" she asked sharply.

Black Lily smiled faintly.

"Obviously, I'm just a lonely woman looking for a strong and handsome man to satisfy my heart."

Jin's eyelids twitched.

He wanted to explain to Barbara that Black Lily was simply his subordinate.

But before he could speak, Black Lily suddenly covered his mouth with her hand.

"Handsome boy, don't talk," she said with a smile.

"This is a war between women."

Barbara gritted her teeth.

"Yes. A war between us."

Their gazes collided in midair, sparks practically flying between them.

"I'm going to the bathroom."

Jin had no intention of participating in a conflict between women, so he wisely chose to escape.

After leaving, he didn't actually go to the restroom. Instead, he casually wandered around the nearby shopping area.

He planned to wait until the confrontation between the two women ended before returning.

Eventually, Jin sat down on a park bench far away from the café.

Crossing his legs, he muttered to himself,

"Strange… Gotham feels a little too quiet today."

This was unusual.

Normally Gotham was filled with gunshots and police sirens.

But today there was nothing.

The silence felt wrong.

On the other side of the bench sat a black-haired woman feeding a stray cat.

When she heard Jin's words, her hand paused slightly. Without looking at him, she continued feeding the cat.

"It's rare for Gotham to be quiet," she said calmly. "Isn't that a good thing?"

Jin glanced at the woman beside him.

He had to admit—she was beautiful. Even from the side, her graceful figure was obvious.

"A moment of silence is often followed by a storm," Jin replied.

Only then did the woman turn her charming eyes toward him.

The corner of her mouth lifted slightly.

"It seems you know Gotham very well."

In truth, Jin knew Gotham well even before coming to this world. And from the age of seven until now, he had seen the city's darkness with his own eyes.

He was certain about one thing.

The Joker was still out there.

And sooner or later, Gotham would fall into chaos because of that madman.

"Miss, how about a bet?"

"Oh?" The woman looked slightly amused. "That sounds interesting. Go on."

"If Gotham falls into chaos soon because of some crazy person, then I win."

"And if I win," Jin continued, "you have to give me something you consider precious."

His words sounded somewhat shameless, but the meaning was deliberately vague.

After all, what people considered precious could be anything—money, life, or even something trivial.

Jin deliberately left the bet ambiguous.

"Hehe… alright," the woman said with a soft laugh.

"Then if I win, you'll have to treat me to dinner."

The two looked at each other and smiled.

But suddenly—

"BOOM!"

A violent explosion erupted in the distant square.

Flames rose into the sky.

Both of them turned their heads toward the sound.

Jin smiled slightly.

"Looks like I won."
