The final academy bell rang just as the afternoon storm rolled across the mountains.
Thunder rolled across the training fields, low and constant as students gathered their things and began leaving the classroom.
Raizen packed his scrolls carefully.
Across the room Daigo stretched dramatically.
"Man, my legs are finished."
"You ran five laps," Akari replied.
"Five painful laps."
Instructor Tetsuya stood at the front of the room watching the students quietly.
Then he spoke.
"Before you leave, one more announcement."
The room quieted instantly.
"As new academy students, many of you will be living in the residential district during the week."
A few students whispered excitedly.
The instructor continued.
"Kumogakure's academy functions as a training institution, not simply a school. Living here means longer training, stricter discipline, and no room for weakness."
Raizen glanced toward the window.
The dorm system.
His mother had mentioned it briefly.
Hearing it confirmed made the academy feel… more real.
"Dorm assignments are posted outside," Tetsuya finished.
"Report to your rooms before evening meal."
The moment he dismissed them, Daigo jumped to his feet.
"Dorms!"
Akari groaned.
"This means you're going to be even louder."
"Correct."
The Residential District
The academy dormitories sat on the eastern side of campus.
Several tall stone buildings overlooked a series of training yards and gardens.
Unlike the classroom district, this area felt more like a small village.
Students walked between buildings carrying scrolls and equipment bags.
Some older students were already sparring—hard enough that no one nearby spoke.
Raizen studied the architecture as they approached.
Efficient.
Practical.
Everything about Kumogakure was built to endure.
A large board near the entrance displayed dorm assignments.
Students crowded around it.
Daigo pushed forward immediately.
"Room 214!"
He turned around grinning.
"Raizen! Same room!"
Akari leaned closer to the board.
"I'm in the building next door."
Daigo smirked.
"Try not to miss us too much."
Akari punched his shoulder.
Room 214
Their dorm room was simple.
Three beds.
Three storage trunks.
A wooden table near the window.
Weapon lockers mounted against the wall.
No decoration.
No luxury.
Just enough for sleep and training. Nothing more.
Daigo dropped onto one of the beds immediately.
"This is awesome."
Raizen opened his storage trunk calmly.
"You're easily impressed."
"Dude," Daigo said, pointing toward the window.
Raizen looked.
From the dorm room they could see nearly half the academy campus.
Training fields stretched across the plateau.
Beyond them the massive cliffs of Kumogakure rose into storm clouds.
Lightning flickered in the distance.
Daigo grinned.
"We're really becoming ninja."
Raizen didn't answer immediately.
Inside his mind Astra spoke.
"Dormitory structure encourages competition and group adaptation."
Raizen smirked slightly.
"You mean it forces us to deal with people."
"Affirmative."
The Third Roommate
Their final roommate arrived just before dinner.
The door slid open quietly.
A boy stepped inside carrying a neatly packed bag.
He had sharp eyes and moved like he already understood the room.
Daigo waved.
"Hey!"
The boy nodded slightly.
"I'm Ren."
He set his bag beside the final bed.
Raizen studied him carefully.
Unlike most students, Ren moved with deliberate calm.
Interesting.
Potential rival.
The Great Dining Hall
Dinner that evening took place in the academy's massive dining hall.
Rows of long tables filled the room as students gathered with trays of food.
The noise hit all at once.
Excited.
Alive.
Conversations echoed across the hall.
Stories about sparring matches.
Arguments over training results.
Boasts about future strength.
Daigo was already telling an exaggerated version of his spar with Raizen.
"…and then he did this weird spin thing—"
"I sidestepped," Raizen corrected.
"Yeah, that."
Akari laughed.
Nearby, older academy students were discussing a recent mission rumor.
"I heard Cloud patrols ran into Stone ninja near the border."
"Again?"
"Yeah."
Raizen listened quietly.
Even students were aware of the tension between villages.
The shinobi world never stayed quiet for long.
Somewhere far away, leaders like Hiruzen Sarutobi and powerful shinobi such as Minato Namikaze shaped the balance between nations.
But here in Kumogakure…
The next generation was growing.
The Academy Library
Later that evening Raizen explored part of the academy grounds.
He eventually found one of the quietest places on campus.
The library.
Rows of scroll shelves filled the room.
Subjects ranged from basic chakra theory to shinobi history.
Raizen pulled one scroll from the shelf.
Foundations of Chakra Flow
Inside his mind Astra spoke immediately.
"Additional chakra theory references detected."
Raizen smiled slightly.
"Let's see how the academy explains it."
Time passed without him noticing.
The Night Training Field
On the way back to the dorms, Raizen noticed something interesting.
Several students were still training.
Even at night.
One group practiced throwing weapons.
Another ran laps around the obstacle field.
Kumogakure's academy culture was clear.
In Kumogakure, effort didn't stop when the sun went down.
Daigo spotted him from across the yard.
"Hey!"
Raizen walked over.
"You're still running?"
"Next time I'm beating you."
Raizen folded his arms.
"Then you should probably sleep."
Daigo grinned.
"Probably."
A Small Festival Announcement
The next morning brought new excitement.
Instructor Tetsuya entered the classroom holding a scroll.
"The academy's first seasonal event will take place next week."
The room erupted instantly.
He wrote the name on the board.
Storm Run Festival
A Kumogakure academy tradition.
Students would race across a mountain obstacle course built along the cliffs surrounding the academy.
Speed.
Balance.
Endurance.
Strategy.
All tested at once.
Daigo slammed his desk excitedly.
"Yes!"
Akari leaned toward Raizen.
"You're joining, right?"
Raizen glanced toward the window.
The storm clouds above the mountains were already gathering.
Then he smiled slightly.
"Of course."
Inside his mind Astra began calculations.
"Course analysis in progress."
Raizen sighed.
"You're going to try to optimize the race, aren't you?"
"Affirmative."
Quiet Seeds of the Future
Later that evening Raizen stood on the dormitory roof.
The wind carried the distant sound of thunder through Kumogakure's cliffs.
Below him, academy students moved between dorm buildings and training yards.
Friendships forming.
Rivalries beginning.
Dreams taking shape.
Some would rise far above the rest.
The future Seven Stars.
Raizen simply watched the storm clouds rolling across the sky.
Then he spoke quietly.
"This is only the beginning."
Lightning flashed.
And above it all, the storm kept building.
