From Kiana the Lord Ravager Onward: A Grand Fabricated History
Author: Better Hang Myself Than Write
Suddenly, as if she had sensed a strange gaze on her, Herta turned to look at Ruan Mei again.
Ruan Mei had tilted her head slightly and was quietly watching her.
Herta grew a little uncomfortable under that stare. "What are you looking at?"
Ruan Mei answered calmly, "Nothing. I just thought your expression just now was rather interesting."
"Interesting?"
Ruan Mei paused for a beat. "Mm. Like someone coaxing a sulking child."
"It's the first time I've ever seen you like that."
Herta: "..."
Herta took a deep breath and decided not to keep dwelling on the topic.
"Wait here. I'm going to handle a private matter first."
With that, and without waiting for Ruan Mei's response, Herta turned and left.
Ruan Mei, for her part, said nothing more.
"So that girl's name is… Kiana?"
Since Herta had made no attempt to hide anything, Ruan Mei had naturally seen the entire exchange between her and that so-called Lord Ravager.
To be honest, Ruan Mei was rather surprised now.
When Herta first invited her, she had already been very interested in Kiana.
After all, this was supposedly a harmless Emanator of Destruction. What genius could possibly bear to turn down something like that?
And now, after seeing the way she and Herta interacted, Ruan Mei had become even more curious about this still-unmet Lord Ravager.
At that thought, Ruan Mei lifted the cup of tea that had long since gone cold and took a light sip.
"Hello?"
A pleasant voice suddenly sounded from behind her.
Ruan Mei's hand paused mid-motion, then she immediately turned around.
And what entered her sight was Kiana herself, launching a sudden surprise attack.
"So you're the friend Big Sister Herta brought in?"
"Mmm… you're really pretty too!"
Ruan Mei fell silent for two seconds.
As a member of the Genius Society, she had heard all kinds of opening lines before, but one this bluntly praising her looks—
Well, all right, it actually wasn't the first time.
"Thank you," Ruan Mei replied with measured politeness.
Kiana, however, grabbed Ruan Mei's hand with shameless familiarity and asked brightly,
"My name's Kiana. What about you?"
"Ruan Mei," she answered, sounding slightly distracted.
At that moment, Ruan Mei's attention was completely fixed on Kiana's sudden appearance.
As a genius, Ruan Mei might have lacked a little in raw paper strength, but her powers of observation were anything but weak.
And yet just now, she had failed to notice Kiana approaching at all.
But according to Herta, wasn't this Lord Ravager supposed to be in rather poor condition?
The way she looked now, however, clearly differed at least somewhat from Herta's description.
And more than that, the girl before her seemed to carry an aura that was strangely difficult to resist.
Like some ancient, outdated powerhouse suddenly running into the current patch's featured unit.
Ruan Mei decided to seize the initiative.
"Miss Kiana, Herta just went out to find you."
Kiana nodded as if that were obvious. "I know. I specifically waited for her to leave before coming over."
Ruan Mei raised a brow slightly.
She had waited until Herta left before showing up?
Which meant that Kiana had been moving around right under the noses of two geniuses this entire time, and neither of them had noticed a thing?
"It seems Miss Kiana's concealment methods are truly exceptional," Ruan Mei said.
Kiana offered no real explanation.
After all, she had specifically chosen to come find Ruan Mei behind Herta's back for reasons of her own.
"So, Miss Ruan Mei, are you the one who came to examine me?"
"Mm. Herta is very worried about your physical condition," Ruan Mei said with a nod, even going so far as to say something nice on Herta's behalf.
Kiana, however, did not seem especially moved.
"I see. But judging from how I am now, it doesn't really seem like there's any need to examine me at all."
Ruan Mei gave no direct opinion. "Indeed. Miss Kiana's condition seems somewhat different from how Herta described it."
Clearly, Ruan Mei also did not believe Herta's judgment could simply be wrong.
"Herta said you were asleep for more than ten Amber Eras."
"Mhm." Kiana nodded.
"But after sleeping that long—especially after suffering fatal injuries—logically speaking, even an Emanator should have been affected to some extent."
"But I'm perfectly fine right now," Kiana said lightly.
"Which is exactly why it's so interesting," Ruan Mei replied.
"Would Miss Kiana be willing to tell me how you managed to recover your condition in such a short time?"
"I truly do want to help you. Perhaps it might even be useful for whatever treatment comes next."
There it was, there it was—the older woman trying to sweet-talk and scam a young girl!
Never mind how sincere Ruan Mei's eyes looked, or how much she resembled a kind physician thinking only of her patient.
Kiana knew perfectly well that these geniuses who looked so reasonable on the surface had no telling what color they really were inside.
Still, it didn't matter.
This was exactly what she had been waiting for.
"Would Miss Ruan Mei like to know?" Kiana answered with an innocent smile.
Ruan Mei smiled back and inclined her head. "If Miss Kiana is willing to share."
Kiana blinked, and the smile on her face only grew brighter.
"It's because of my mom, actually."
"Your mother?" Ruan Mei froze for a moment, clearly not following.
According to Herta, wasn't Kiana supposed to be essentially an orphan? Where had this mother suddenly come from?
Of course, Ruan Mei would never say something so tactless to Kiana's face.
So she simply followed Kiana's lead and continued smoothly,
"Miss Kiana's mother? She sounds like a very special person."
"Heh-heh. My mom's name is Cecilia. She's an Emanator of Abundance."
Ruan Mei took another sip of tea. "An Emanator of Abundance, I see. No wonder—wait, an Emanator of Abundance?"
"Mm." Kiana nodded, looking at Ruan Mei with those impossibly clear eyes.
"What's wrong, Miss Ruan Mei? Do you think that's strange?"
Ruan Mei did not answer.
At this moment, Kiana's response had completely choked her.
As a genius of the Genius Society, Ruan Mei naturally had her own field of specialization.
Although on the surface she seemed to dabble in every Path a little, if one had to choose just one, then the Path Ruan Mei was most interested in would unquestionably be Abundance.
Unfortunately, anything below the level of an Emanator in the Path of Abundance was of no great help to her now.
But an Emanator of Abundance?
Ruan Mei had never had the chance to meet one.
And if such an opportunity truly existed—
there was absolutely no way she would let it slip by.
No.
She had to steal Herta's girl out from under her nose.
