Chapter 13 - Love For A Day (part13)

Love for a Day – Chapter 13 | Title: The Owner of the Contract

The storm above Liang City seemed to freeze.

Rain still fell, but slower now, as if the world itself was holding its breath.

In the center of the ruined courtyard, the glowing contract hovered in the air, cracked but still alive. From the center of the golden light, a shadow slowly formed.

A voice echoed across the battlefield.

"You have damaged my contract."

The sound was calm… but heavy with power.

Alex felt his chest tighten.

Emma stared upward.

The golden light expanded, forming the shape of a person suspended inside the floating contract.

A tall figure.

Cloaked in flowing black and gold.

Eyes glowing faintly.

Li Wei immediately dropped to one knee.

"Master."

The betrayer stepped back respectfully.

Emma's stomach dropped.

"Alex… that's the real owner."

Alex's grip tightened on the glowing box.

"So the puppet finally shows up."

The figure slowly opened its eyes.

The air vibrated.

"I am not a puppet master," the figure said calmly.

"I am the Keeper of the Contract."

The golden scroll behind him shimmered like liquid light.

Emma stepped forward.

"You control this marriage contract?"

The Keeper looked down at her.

"I created it."

Silence filled the courtyard.

Alex blinked.

"You created something that traps people's hearts?"

The Keeper tilted his head slightly.

"Not traps."

He raised one hand.

"Tests."

The broken contract pieces around him floated slightly.

"The contract exists to reveal truth."

Emma's voice turned sharp.

"Truth?"

She pointed at the glowing scroll.

"You manipulated our lives!"

The Keeper looked completely calm.

"No."

His glowing eyes moved between them.

"You chose every step yourselves."

Emma scoffed.

"That's a lie."

The Keeper raised his hand again.

Suddenly the air around them changed.

The glowing contract projected memories into the air.

Moments from the past days.

Alex finding the box.

Emma choosing to help him.

Their decisions.

Their choices.

The Keeper spoke quietly.

"The contract never forces love."

Alex frowned.

"Then what does it do?"

The Keeper answered.

"It reveals the strength of a bond."

Li Wei stood again.

"But Master, they are damaging the contract."

The Keeper looked at the cracks across the golden scroll.

"Yes."

Emma crossed her arms.

"So what happens now?"

The Keeper studied them for a moment.

Then he spoke calmly.

"You have reached the final stage of the trial."

Alex frowned.

"Trial?"

The Keeper nodded.

"One day."

Emma whispered.

"The name of the contract…"

The Keeper finished her sentence.

"Love for a Day."

Lightning flashed above the city.

The Keeper continued.

"One day is enough to reveal whether two hearts can resist fear, doubt, and control."

Alex looked at Emma.

"So everything… the attacks… the illusions…"

The Keeper nodded.

"All part of the trial."

Emma's anger rose again.

"You nearly killed us!"

The Keeper's expression didn't change.

"Survival is also part of the truth."

Li Wei suddenly stepped forward.

"Master, they are unworthy."

Emma glared at him.

"Oh shut up."

Li Wei's face darkened.

"They have damaged your contract."

The Keeper looked at Alex again.

"No."

He pointed toward the box.

"They have awakened it."

Everyone turned toward the glowing artifact in Alex's hands.

The Keeper continued.

"That box exists to protect the contract's balance."

Alex blinked.

"Then why does it react to us?"

The Keeper answered simply.

"Because your bond is real."

Emma froze.

Even Li Wei looked surprised.

The Keeper slowly descended from the floating scroll, landing lightly on the wet ground.

Rain splashed around his feet.

He walked toward Alex and Emma.

Every step carried enormous pressure.

The air grew heavier.

Emma held her dagger tighter.

The Keeper stopped a few steps away.

"You have resisted every illusion."

His eyes moved between them.

"You have chosen trust over doubt."

Alex's voice hardened.

"And?"

The Keeper's gaze became sharper.

"But the trial is not finished."

Emma sighed.

"Of course it isn't."

Li Wei smirked again.

"I told you this wasn't over."

The Keeper turned toward him.

"Silence."

Li Wei immediately lowered his head.

The Keeper raised his hand.

The cracked contract floated downward.

It hovered between Alex and Emma.

The glowing signatures shone brightly.

The Keeper spoke.

"The final clause decides the owner of the bond."

Emma frowned.

"What does that mean exactly?"

The Keeper answered calmly.

"Either the contract owns your hearts…"

The golden scroll glowed brighter.

"Or you destroy the contract and claim your own fate."

Alex's heart pounded.

Emma glanced at him.

"That sounds risky."

Alex nodded.

"Very."

Li Wei suddenly laughed.

"They won't do it."

Emma glared at him.

"Why not?"

Li Wei smirked.

"Because destroying the contract could destroy their bond too."

Silence filled the courtyard.

Emma looked at the Keeper.

"Is that true?"

The Keeper didn't lie.

"Yes."

Alex exhaled slowly.

"So if we break the contract…"

Emma finished the sentence.

"We might lose everything."

Li Wei crossed his arms confidently.

"Exactly."

The betrayer added quietly.

"No one has ever chosen that path."

Emma looked at Alex.

"What do you think?"

Alex looked down at the glowing box.

The light inside it pulsed slowly.

Then he looked at Emma.

"Do you trust me?"

Emma didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Alex smiled faintly.

"Then we already know the answer."

Emma nodded.

"Yeah."

Li Wei frowned.

"What are they talking about?"

The Keeper watched them silently.

Alex stepped forward.

He lifted the glowing box toward the floating contract.

Emma stood beside him.

"If the contract decides who owns our hearts…"

Alex's voice became firm.

"Then we reject the contract."

Emma raised her dagger.

"And choose our own fate."

Li Wei's eyes widened.

"They're insane!"

The betrayer looked uneasy.

"They're really doing it."

The Keeper's expression remained calm.

"Then the final test begins."

The contract glowed violently.

Golden energy spread across the courtyard.

The air trembled.

The box in Alex's hands exploded with light.

Emma's dagger began glowing as well.

Lightning struck the sky above Liang City.

The two forces collided.

Contract.

And choice.

Alex shouted.

"Now!"

Emma swung her dagger.

Alex slammed the box forward.

BOOM.

A massive explosion of light erupted between them.

The entire courtyard shook violently.

Golden cracks spread across the floating contract.

Li Wei screamed.

"No!"

The betrayer stepped back in shock.

The Keeper simply watched.

CRACK.

CRACK.

CRACK.

The golden scroll began splitting apart.

The magic that had controlled their fate for so long…

Was breaking.

But suddenly the energy spiraled wildly.

The box vibrated violently in Alex's hands.

Emma grabbed his arm.

"Alex!"

The energy was out of control.

The sky itself seemed to tear open.

And in the center of the chaos…

The Keeper finally smiled.

"Interesting."

The storm over Liang City roared louder than ever.

And the fate of the contract…

Was about to be decided.
