Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Ballistics and Black Fur

The air in the Whispering Thickets was cool, but the atmosphere between the three of them was suddenly scorching. Ren watched the way Elize's long, elegant ears gave a sharp, rhythmic twitch—a dead giveaway of her intense interest.

"A bow... from your world?" Elize stammered, her competitive fire suddenly turning into pure, unadulterated greed. As a Royal Guard, her life revolved around the mastery of the string and limb. The thought of a weapon made of "carbon-fiber" and "pulley systems" sounded like legendary artifacts from the age of gods.

Ren smirked, seeing he had her hooked. "And for you, Elodi," he added, glancing at the Princess. "I can show you materials your alchemists have never dreamed of. Metals that never rust, and glass stronger than steel."

The effect was instantaneous. Any remaining royal distance or guard-like stoicism vanished in a heartbeat.

"Truly? You have such things?" Elodi gasped. She didn't just step closer; she lunged, her small, delicate hands snatching Ren's right arm and hugging it tightly against her chest. Because her traveling silk was so thin and molded to her form, Ren could feel the soft, yielding curves of her breasts pressing firmly against his bicep. She looked up at him with wide, shimmering golden eyes, her face so close he could see the faint gold flecks in her pupils.

"I want to see it all, Ren! I want to know everything about where you came from!" she whispered, her breath smelling of sweet nectar as she leaned her weight into him.

On his left, Elize wasn't about to be left behind. Seeing the Princess so bold, her own inhibitions crumbled under the weight of her curiosity and jealousy. She snatched his other arm, her chest heaving with excitement as she pressed herself against his side. Her thigh hooked slightly against his leg as she leaned in, her face flushed a deep, beautiful pink.

"Don't think you're getting off that easy!" Elize huffed, though she was practically nuzzling his shoulder now. "I'm going to win that wager! I'll show you the greatest archery the High Elves have ever seen! You better have that bow ready, human!"

Ren stood there, pinned once again, but this time they were wide awake and very, very energetic. The friction of their bodies against his arms, the heady scent of jasmine and forest lilies, and the way they were both looking at him like he was the most fascinating treasure in the world made his mana-veins throb.

Ren looked down at the two beautiful elves clinging to his arms. He could feel the warmth of their skin through his clothes, and the way they were squeezing him made it nearly impossible to maintain his professional "bodyguard" mask.

"Hey, easy," Ren grunted, though he didn't pull away. "We still have a long walk to the Capital. If you keep clinging to me like this, we'll never get there."

"Then carry us!" Elize teased, her voice uncharacteristically playful, her ears fluttering against Ren's neck. "If you have infinite mana, surely you can handle two 'light' elves?"

"Of course. I could do that all day," Ren replied, his voice a low, confident vibration that made both Elodi and Elize shiver against his arms.

But the playful atmosphere shattered in an instant.

Rustle.

Ren's eyes sharpened, the pupils narrowing into predatory slits. His hearing, reinforced by his mana-saturated soul, picked up the synchronized breathing of something hiding in the thicket. Beside him, the two elves felt the shift; their long ears gave a sharp, frantic twitch.

Elize reacted with the grace of a veteran. She shoved herself off Ren's arm, her fingers blurring as she snatched her newly crafted bow. In a single, fluid motion, an arrow was notched and drawn to her cheek.

"Hide behind me, Princess!" Elize commanded, her gaze darting across the dense foliage.

The forest had gone deathly still, but the sounds were multiplying. Snap. Scuff. Hiss. They were coming from every direction.

"There's more than seven," Ren muttered, his hand hovering over the hilt of his black katana. "Large trees, heavy brush... they're using the verticality of the forest. You won't spot them before they drop on us."

Elize's bow arm trembled slightly. Even with her elven senses, the sheer amount of cover made it impossible to pinpoint a target. They were sitting ducks in the middle of a natural kill zone.

"I can't see them!" Elize hissed, her ears rotating desperately to catch a heartbeat. "They're masking their presence!"

"Then we're changing the battlefield," Ren said. He turned to the two women, a sudden, wicked glint in his eyes. "I'm sorry in advance for this."

"Wait, what—?"

Before Elodi or Elize could protest, Ren's arms wrapped around them both. He pulled them into a tight, crushing embrace, his powerful chest pinning their soft forms against him.

"[Mana Burst]", Ren growled.

Violet lightning flickered across his boots. With a grunt of effort, he didn't just jump—he launched them. Using his overwhelming strength, he threw both women upward toward the high, thick branches of a massive silver tree, thirty feet above the forest floor.

"Kyaaa!" Elodi shrieked, her silk dress fluttering wildly as she soared through the air.

"Ren, you idiot—!" Elize yelled, her face turning a vivid, explosive red as she felt the lingering heat of his hands where they had grabbed her.

They landed safely on a broad, flat branch, their hearts hammering against their ribs. Looking down, they saw Ren standing alone in the clearing, his katana drawn, the blade humming with a low, destructive frequency.

Up on the branch, the two elves were a mess of tangled limbs and flushed faces. Elodi was clutching her chest, her ears twitching in a rhythmic, dazed pattern, while Elize was staring down at her own body, the sensation of Ren's "rough" carry still burning into her skin.

"He... he actually threw us," Elodi whispered, her face glowing.

"That reckless, shameless... incredible monster," Elize muttered, her grip on her bow tightening as she looked down at the clearing.

"Just stay there," Ren called out, his voice cutting through the humid air of the thickets. He didn't even look up at the branch where the two blushing elves were perched.

From the surrounding shadows, the Black Wolves finally emerged. These weren't the scrawny scavengers from the forest edge; they were massive, double the size of a natural wolf, with fur as dark as a void and eyes that burned like dying embers.

Tactical Pattern: [Sequential Blitz] — They attack in a relentless, high-speed rotation to exhaust the target's mana and stamina.

Threat Level: High (For standard mages).

Ren watched as the lead wolf bared teeth that dripped with a corrosive, black ichor. Instead of bracing his sword, Ren opened his palm. The violet particles of his dissolved katana didn't vanish—they began to compress, spinning with a high-pitched whine that sounded like a jet engine.

"Blades are too messy for a pack this size," Ren muttered.

The mana solidified. Instead of a long edge, it formed a sleek, matte-black Semi-Automatic Handgun. It looked alien in this world of wood and magic—cold, mechanical, and heavy. He slammed a manifested magazine into the grip with a metallic clack that echoed through the trees.

"[Structural Manifestation: Piercing Rounds]," he commanded.

He didn't just make lead bullets. He forged projectiles out of high-density mana-steel, tipped with a rotating diamond-drill geometry. Upon impact, the tip would spin at 10,000 RPM, designed to ignore the "A-Rank" magical hides of the beasts and explode outward once it hit soft tissue.

Up on the branch, Elize's jaw dropped. "What is that... tiny staff? Is he going to point it at them?"

"It's from his world," Elodi whispered, her heart racing as she watched Ren stand perfectly still while ten massive monsters circled him.

The lead wolf lunged, a blur of black fur moving at subsonic speeds.

BANG.

A thunderous crack shattered the silence of the forest. A muzzle flash of violet fire lit up Ren's face for a microsecond. The piercing bullet didn't just hit the wolf; it bypassed its reinforced skull entirely, exiting through the back of its neck in a spray of dark mist. The beast didn't even have time to whimper before its momentum carried its lifeless carcass into the dirt.

Ren didn't wait. He stepped into a low stance, his eyes tracking the next three wolves that launched from different directions.

BANG. BANG. BANG.

The rhythmic, mechanical roar of the handgun was terrifying. Each shot was a surgical strike. One wolf was caught mid-air, the piercing round shattering its shoulder and sending it tumbling. Another was struck in the chest, the rotating tip boring through its magical armor like it was wet paper.

"Speed and numbers?" Ren said, the smoke curling from the barrel of his new weapon. "In my world, we call this target practice."

Ren didn't just stand his ground; he became a shadow within the shadows. As the remaining six wolves lunged simultaneously, Ren's boots ignited with violet sparks. He vanished from the center of the clearing, reappearing vertically on the trunk of a massive silver tree, his body parallel to the ground as he ran upward, defying gravity with pure mana-suction.

BANG. BANG.

Two more wolves collapsed, their skulls shattered by the High-Density Piercing Rounds before they could even adjust their trajectory.

"Too slow," Ren muttered.

But these were A-Rank hunters. The Alpha wolf, a beast the size of a small carriage, predicted Ren's landing. As Ren flipped off the trunk to descend, the Alpha intercepted him mid-air. Its massive jaws snapped shut inches from Ren's throat, its weight slamming him back against the rough bark of a nearby tree.

Up on the branch, Elodi let out a terrified scream. "Ren!"

Elize's fingers tightened on her bowstring, her heart skipping a beat. "He's pinned!"

But Ren didn't panic. As the Alpha's claws dug into his shoulders, Ren dropped the handgun—not because he lost it, but to free his hand. He grabbed the wolf's thick, matted fur, his muscles bulging as he redirected its massive momentum. With a guttural grunt, he spun the beast, pinning it against the tree instead.

In one fluid, brutal motion, Ren's other hand caught the falling handgun mid-air. He jammed the muzzle directly into the Alpha's chest, right over its pulsing, magical heart.

THOOM.

The point-blank shockwave of the mana-bullet muffled the sound. The wolf's body convulsed as the diamond-tipped round bored through its ribcage and shredded its heart. Before it could even slump, Ren slid the barrel upward, pressing it firmly under the beast's jaw.

BANG.

The Alpha's head snapped back as the piercing round exited through the top of its skull, painting the silver bark in dark, shimmering ichor.

Ren let the carcass fall, stepping over it with a cold, predatory focus. There were three left. They were hesitant now, their primitive instincts screaming at them to run from the "Human" who fought like a machine.

Ren didn't give them the chance. He extended his arm, his eyes narrowing as he entered a state of [Hyper-Focus]. The world slowed down. He could see the individual droplets of dew falling from the leaves; he could see the rhythmic pulse of the wolves' jugulars.

He aimed at the furthest one, three hundred feet away, trying to blend into the thicket.

CLACK. He cleared a jammed casing with a flick of his wrist.

"One," he whispered. BANG. The wolf's eye disappeared.

"Two." He pivoted 180 degrees, firing blindly behind his back at a wolf leaping from a branch. The bullet caught it mid-spine, folding the creature in half like a broken toy.

He turned his gaze to the final wolf, which was frozen in terror. Ren didn't fire immediately. He let the hammer of the mana-gun click back, the violet glow of the weapon reflecting in his dark, merciless eyes.

"Target locked," he muttered.

BANG.

The final wolf fell before it could even turn to run. Silence returned to the Whispering Thickets, broken only by the sizzling of mana-rounds and the heavy, rhythmic breathing of the two stunned elves above.

Ren looked up at the branch, the matte-black handgun dissolving back into violet mist. He wiped a smudge of black blood from his cheek and looked at the two flustered women.

"You can come down now," Ren said, his voice returning to its usual calm. "The 'practice' is over."

Ren stood at the base of the silver tree, the tang of ozone and wolf-ichor still hanging in the humid air. Before he could even offer a hand, the branch above creaked violently.

Elodi, her royal composure completely shattered by the mechanical lethality she had just witnessed, didn't wait for a ladder or a spell. She scrambled to the edge, her golden eyes wide with a manic, almost primal fascination. "Ren! That was... that was beyond magic!" she cried out, her foot slipping on the mossy bark.

With a high-pitched squeak, the Princess plummeted. Ren reacted with the honed instincts of a void-walker, stepping forward to catch her. But Elodi's momentum was greater than he anticipated. She collided with him not in a graceful bridal carry, but in a chaotic tangle of silk and soft skin. Her chest—unrestrained by the thin travel chemise—slammed directly into Ren's face.

The landing was impossibly soft, a cushion of warm, floral-scented curves that momentarily blinded him. Elodi, far too excited to realize the suggestive nature of their position, began bouncing in his arms, her heart hammering against his cheek.

"They were Low-Calamity! Rank A!" she squealed, each jump causing her heavy, supple breasts to buffet against Ren's face. "If they are alone, a knight can handle them, but in a pack, they are a death sentence! And you... you cleared them like they were mere insects! What was that sound? That fire from the tiny staff?"

Ren groaned, muffled by the sheer volume of royal cleavage pressing against his nose. He could feel the heat radiating from her skin, the "Mana-Link" from the night before surging back to life as her excitement acted as a conductor.

"Princess... air..." Ren managed to gasp out, his hands instinctively gripping her waist to steady the bouncing, which only served to press her more firmly against him.

"Get away from her, you lecherous shadow-beast!"

Elize, seeing the Princess literally smothering their bodyguard with her "charms," felt a spike of jealousy so sharp it manifested as a physical gale. She didn't just descend; she used a wind-step to launch herself from the high branch.

In a display of lethal, tsundere-fueled acrobatics, Elize didn't aim for the ground. She aimed for Ren's neck. As she dropped, she spread her legs, her powerful, leather-clad thighs locking around Ren's throat in a classic head-scissors takedown. Her intent was to peel him away from the Princess, but the sheer force of her descent sent them all into a spin.

"Princess, move!" Elize barked, her inner thighs squeezing Ren's head with enough pressure to crush a lesser man's skull.

The momentum threatened to slam Ren's back into the dirt, but he was no longer "just a man." As Elize tried to flip him into a submission hold mid-air, Ren's mana flared violet. He didn't fight the spin; he accelerated it.

In a blur of motion that left the girls dizzy, Ren performed a mid-air axial rotation. He tucked his chin, shifted his weight, and used the centrifugal force to slip through Elize's "thigh-lock" just as they neared the ground.

THUD.

Ren landed perfectly on two feet, his knees bent slightly, his expression cool and unshaken. Elize, however, tumbled into a heap of tangled limbs and exposed petticoats at his boots, her face a mask of humiliated fury.

"You... you dare slip out of my 'Grip of the Gale'?" Elize hissed, scrambling to her feet, her chest heaving as she adjusted her disordered tunic. The friction of the mid-air struggle had left her skin flushed, her long ears twitching in a frantic, tell-tale rhythm.

Ren let out a long, weary sigh, wiping a stray silver hair from his collar—a souvenir from Elodi's frantic bouncing.

"If you two are done using me as a landing pad and a wrestling partner," Ren said, his voice dropping into that dangerous, velvety baritone, "we have three more miles of 'Calamity' territory to cover. And next time Elize tries to lock her legs around my head... I might not be so inclined to let go."

Elize froze, her mind instantly conjuring a vivid, heat-filled image of Ren holding her in that position instead of slipping away. Her legs felt suddenly weak, a heavy warmth settling in her lower stomach.

"I—I was merely... neutralizing a potential threat to the Princess's virtue!" she stammered, though her eyes lingered on the hard, masculine line of his jaw.
