Chapter 9 - Kaname - Concern

After settling his son in one of the guest rooms upstairs, Kaname went downstairs and finished up what Naoki had left for him to do. Mr. Sakaki was still watching television, so Kaname didn't bother him. He bid him good night and retreated to the living quarters at the back. He went inside quickly, turned the lock, then leaned his back against the door.

It had been a long time since the last time Kaname felt so nervous like today–even when he asked Naoki to live with him, he wasn't this nervous (but maybe that was because Kaname already knew that Naoki would definitely say yes). Usually at times like this, he would go up the hill, but this was in the middle of the night. Kaname clenched and unclenched his fists a couple of times until all of his nerves unwound. Mentally shaking his head, Kaname berated himself. This was not the time to panic. Kei was already here, and all he needed to figure out now was how to start communicating with his son in real life.

He took a deep breath and raised his face. Suddenly, he laughed, embarrassed because across the room, Naoki was looking at him from the bed, his face looked like he had witnessed something ridiculous and silly. Kaname cleared his throat, pushing his back away from the door.

Naoki laughed. He put down the magazine he was reading when Kaname came in. "All done?"

"Yeah. Luckily, we're not fully booked right now, otherwise all three of us have to squeeze in here," Kaname said while taking off his sweater as he walked toward the bathroom.

He heard Naoki's reply. "No, thank you. I much prefer to move you to the floor."

Kaname chuckled. He threw his clothes into the laundry basket under the sink, washed his face and brushed his teeth, then put on a clean set of jersey to sleep in. He joined Naoki in bed, pulling him into his arms, and kissed his cheek.

"Don't be mean to me. I'm still shocked, you know."

Naoki shifted, turning around so they were facing each other. His head was propped with one arm on the pillow. His other hand reached out to run along Kaname's chest and shoulder. "I actually wanted to ask you about that."

Kaname sighed, pulling Naoki to lie on top of him. "Actually… I got his email yesterday–I meant to tell you, I promise. Anyway, he said he'd like to come, but he didn't say the exact date, so I thought he'd come during the weekend at the soonest. I also thought I'd talked to his mother first. After all, this is not a small matter."

Naoki frowned. "What do you mean? If he's only visiting, then it's okay, right? You can just tell me, and moreover, Kei-kun's already in high school. It's not like he can't go anywhere alone…"

Kaname's hand rubbed along Naoki's back. "Well, that's it. That kid… he wants to live here. As in, move in here. With me. With us. For good." Kaname should have told it better, but he couldn't think of any better way to do it right now. Anxiously, he locked his eyes with Naoki. He even let Naoki pull himself away to sit up. Kaname took his hand.

"Live here? Why? This place isn't exactly a place where a young man from a big city like him would choose to live. I mean…" Naoki wondered.

"That's why I wanted to call Maya and asked her, but then there's the thing with Jouji-san's car..." Kaname sighed. "Don't worry. I'll call her tomorrow."

"Kaname-san."

Kaname gave him a reassuring smile as he patted Naoki's hand in his hold. "I know. I should've told you sooner. I'm sorry. If you don't want Kei to live with us, I'll bring him to my folks' home."

Naoki quickly shook his hand. "No, no, no. Absolutely not! Don't misunderstand me. Kei-kun is your child; I don't have any reason to object. Honestly. I just… this is just too sudden, so I'm still a little bit surprised."

Kaname pulled him to lie down again, once again hugging him in his arms. He looked up at the ceiling. His hand smoothed down Naoki's back, but it was more to comfort himself rather than Naoki. He was lost in his own thoughts when suddenly Naoki shifted, lying completely on top of him, both his legs trapping Kaname's hips. His face came so close to Kaname's, his almond-shaped eyes glinted with something, and his lips smiled sweetly.

Kaname let out a soft laugh. "What?"

Naoki shifted, pressing down just enough so their bodies ground against each other. "If you don't want to think about it for now, then don't."

Kaname let out a hum. Naoki's action effectively distracted him, and his brain had successfully been taken over by the sensation of his boyfriend's body pressing against him in the most suggestive way. His hand slid down, stopping at the hem of Naoki's sweater before slipping in to touch Naoki's waist. His other hand reached out to caress Naoki's cheekbone lovingly.

"Are you feeling alright today?"

Naoki blinked slowly at him. "Don't worry about me," he whispered, closing the distance between them as he kissed Kaname deeply.

So be it, Kaname thought, turning their bodies around to press down on Naoki. He pulled the blanket over them. After all, it was so cold, and he couldn't let Naoki get sick.
