Chapter 220 - Chapter 220: Madara’s Insurance

"Obito? Wasn't he already dead?"

Nagato and Konan were shocked when they saw Obito come back to life.

"Just a little trick," Jie said casually.

Izanagi was a forbidden technique of the Uchiha Clan. There was no need to explain it to outsiders like Nagato and Konan.

Jie looked at Obito and sneered. "I thought you liked playing dead. Why get up the moment you heard Rin Nohara's name?"

"Besides, you know better than anyone what really happened back then."

Obito could no longer suppress his anger.

Yes. He knew the truth better than anyone.

Rin had chosen to protect the village by throwing herself onto Kakashi's Raikiri. That moment had left both Obito and Kakashi trapped in guilt for the rest of their lives.

But to Obito, a world without Rin was wrong from the start. That was why he had inherited Madara's Eye of the Moon Plan, to create a world where Rin still existed.

And now, Jie had ruined everything. Obito wanted nothing more than to kill him, but he knew he was no match for Jie.

Then, he suddenly remembered something Jie had said earlier.

"You said Rin had a curse seal in her heart too?!"

Jie looked at him. He had no reason to answer Obito, but since he wanted him to die knowing the truth, he answered directly.

"That's right. Rin Nohara had the same kind of curse seal in her heart as Nagato."

"Even if she hadn't thrown herself onto Kakashi's Raikiri, Madara would have used White Zetsu to activate the curse seal inside her and make it look like she chose to die."

"The woman you loved died right in front of you, and the one who killed her was your best friend. For you, there probably wasn't anything worse."

Jie laughed lightly, his eyes full of mockery.

Obito was shaken. His eye lost focus.

At that moment, Jie noticed that Obito's right eye had turned pale gray, while the Mangekyō Sharingan in his left eye was still intact.

'So Obito found another three-tomoe Sharingan somewhere and put it in his right eye?'

Since Jie had changed things, the Uchiha Clan had not been wiped out. Instead, it had grown even stronger. This Ninja World was not like the original story, where Sharingan were treated like spare accessories.

So where had Obito gotten another Sharingan? Jie had not heard of any clan member losing one recently.

'Don't tell me he dug up the Uchiha graves like Shisui did.'

'Or did Shisui dig up the graves, hand those dead men's eyes to Danzo, and Danzo passed one to Obito?'

The thought made Jie shudder.

What had the Uchiha Clan done to deserve this? They had survived their enemies, only for their own unfilial descendants to start digging up their ancestors' graves.

Once he got back, he would seal the Uchiha graves with layer after layer of barriers. Then he would see who still dared to touch them.

While Jie was lost in thought, Obito suddenly glared at him and roared, "What proof do you have? You made all of this up, didn't you?"

Jie snapped back to reality and laughed.

"Believe it or not. I was only kind enough to tell you the truth."

"And it wasn't just Rin Nohara and Nagato. Madara planted a curse seal in your heart too."

"It was insurance in case Nagato failed. If that happened, you would become the sacrifice used to revive Madara."

Obito's face went pale. Then, before Jie could even react, he made his decision. He struck his own chest and removed his heart.

Obito's decisiveness startled Jie, and even Nagato and Konan were left stunned.

With Hashirama's cells sustaining him, Obito did not die immediately. Pale-faced, he lowered his head and looked at his heart.

Sure enough, just as Jie had said, there was a curse seal on it.

Obito coughed up blood. "Uchiha Madara!" he roared, and then his body slowly went still.

Jie looked at Obito's corpse and shook his head. Why bother?

The moment Obito chose to go that far, it already meant he believed him. Was there really any need to waste a Mangekyō Sharingan just to prove it?

Nagato and Konan's eyes twitched. As expected, the Uchiha were all madmen. Obito had actually taken his own life just to check whether there was a curse seal on his heart.

But how many times could he keep reviving? Did he really have endless lives on top of that intangibility?

Silence settled over the battlefield. A full minute passed, but Obito's body still did not move.

Surprise flashed across Jie's face. Had Obito really not used Izanagi?

He stepped forward to check. After confirming that Obito had no spare Sharingan, and that the Mangekyō Sharingan in his eye was still intact, Jie finally understood.

Obito really had not used Izanagi. He had paid with his life just to find out whether Jie was lying.

For a moment, even Jie had nothing to say.
