Chapter 12 – Finally Done
Kai didn't bother pretending to be asleep any camera footage would show he was clearly awake, just lying there.
He sat up straight.
To his surprise, only one man rounded the corner, despite Kai clearly hearing three pairs of footsteps moments earlier.
The man wore a sleek black suit and matching tie. His presence was oppressive, his aura heavy. It was obvious he was the leader of the group hiding just out of sight.
Kai said nothing, simply staring at the man in silence.
"Hello," the man said. "It looks like you're awake. How do you feel?"
Kai didn't answer.
The man smiled faintly. "It's fine if you want to stay silent, but we'll still need a report from you on what happened."
Kai's voice was cold, detached. "Why am I here? And how?"
The smile faded. "I'm the one asking questions here."
Kai's tone didn't change. "Who are you? And why am I here?"
The man sighed. "Who I am is unimportant."
He stepped to Kai's right, sat down on one of the couches, and called out, "You can come in."
A man and a young woman entered, both wearing white lab coats.
The man bowed slightly. "Please, ask me anything and I'll do my best to explain."
"Who are you," Kai repeated, "and why , how am I here?"
The man straightened. "My name is Kyle. I'm a doctor at Life Line Hospital."
The girl spoke next. "I'm Nova, Kyle's assistant."
Kyle continued, "As for why you're here… we don't have all the details. We just know you somehow appeared here… well, maybe someone decided to do it." His last words carried a sarcastic edge, as if mocking the idea.
Kai's eyes narrowed. "And why do you want my bloodline? I'll be needing that blood back too."
Kyle smiled slightly. "Well… that's why we're here."
"Just say it," Kai snapped.
Kyle leaned back. "It's… interesting. You don't seem to have a bloodline, and yet, when mana enters your body, it flows through it but not in the blood views in mana veins but clearly you don't have any but it moves as if you do. So, we decided to take a small sample for testing. It appears your blood can somehow change mana in a unique way."
Nova added, "And the mana your blood controlled was actually used by the blood itself to circulate through your body your 'vessel.'"
Internally, Kai was both amused and confused.
'I don't think your so-called update is over… but if it is, answer me what the hell are they talking about?'
[The update is over, but that is a power from your bloodline. Thus i have no control over it.]
Kai cursed silently.
"Alright," he said aloud. "I have no idea what you're talking about, but I don't care. I need to go home."
Nova spoke again. "Right, about that your mother asked us to tell you your brother has left for the academy."
Kai exhaled sharply. "I know and don't care. Why am I still here?"
Kyle replied, "We still need to run some tests. They involve taking more blood, but we can't proceed without your consent."
"I do not give you my consent," Kai said immediately. "And let me go. I never asked you to bring me here. I was forcibly taken in my sleep."
Kai shouted in his mind at the system, 'HOW ABOUT YOU WAKE ME UP NEXT TIME?'
[The system was unresponsive during the update phase.]
Kai sighed inwardly, realizing this was partly his fault.
Closing his eyes, his tone remained sharp. "I will not give you my consent. Now can I leave?"
Kyle sighed and gave a nod to Nova.
Within minutes, the restraints on Kai's wrists and ankles were removed, along with the wires connected to him.
Nova bowed slightly. "You're free to go."
Kai grinned as he stood up but then paused. "You know… I have no idea how to get out of this place."
Kyle chuckled. "Just follow me."
Kai's grin faltered for a moment, then returned as he followed Kyle.
A few hours later, after running nonstop, Kai reached home and collapsed onto his bed.
He immediately noticed something—his speed was faster than before.
'So… what did the update do?'
[Many things have changed.]
Kai sighed. 'Open interface.'
A red holographic screen appeared in front of him, blank except for four accessible tabs and one locked tab:

Kai let out another sigh. "Well… that's a lot of new things."
