Chapter Twenty-Nine
The Famous Café
Morning sunlight filtered through the café windows, touching the wooden tables with a warm glow.
Noah pushed open the door of the café and froze.
There were already people waiting outside.
"Why are there so many people here this early?" she muttered.
Jack, who was walking behind her, leaned forward to peek outside.
"Well," he said proudly, folding his arms, "fame travels fast."
Noah rolled her eyes.
"This is not your fame."
Clare giggled as she tied her apron.
"It kind of is. You did help invent the cake… by mistake."
Jack straightened his posture dramatically.
"History will remember it as a brilliant accident."
Daniel chuckled quietly from the corner table where he was helping Emma prepare coffee beans.
Soon the café door opened.
A middle-aged man stepped inside cautiously.
"Good morning," he said politely. "Is this the place that sells the new dessert?"
Noah smiled.
"Yes. What would you like?"
"The… what was it called again?" the man asked.
Jack quickly stepped forward.
"Cake."
He said the word proudly, like an inventor presenting his greatest discovery.
"Ah yes!" the man said excitedly. "Cake!"
Within minutes more people entered.
A group of young boys rushed to the counter.
"Do you still have the blueberry cake?" one of them asked eagerly.
Clare laughed.
"We baked fresh ones this morning."
Emma placed several warm slices on plates while the rich smell of baked sweetness filled the air.
The café soon buzzed with cheerful voices.
People were talking, laughing, and sipping coffee while tasting the soft dessert.
A woman at the corner table took a bite and covered her mouth in surprise.
"Oh my… this is delicious!"
Another man nodded while chewing thoughtfully.
"It's soft like bread but sweet like a pastry."
Jack leaned against the counter, whispering proudly to Noah,
"See? Genius."
Noah smacked his arm lightly.
"You almost poisoned us with baking soda that day."
"That was research," Jack replied confidently.
Daniel burst into laughter.
Clare shook her head.
"You're unbelievable."
Outside, more people gathered near the entrance.
Some peeked through the windows curiously.
Word about the new dessert had spread across the town overnight.
Soon Noah's café was completely full.
Emma looked around the lively room with a smile she couldn't hide.
"I haven't seen the café this busy in years," she said softly.
Noah felt warmth spread in her chest.
All the hard work, the experiments, the mountain trip for blueberries—
It had all turned into something wonderful.
Jack suddenly stood on a chair dramatically.
"Ladies and gentlemen!" he announced loudly.
Everyone turned toward him.
"I would like to thank you all for supporting my brilliant invention!"
Noah immediately pulled him down.
"Sit down before you embarrass us!"
The customers laughed.
Even Daniel wiped tears of laughter from his eyes.
Clare whispered playfully,
"Next he'll claim he invented coffee."
Jack grinned.
"Don't give me ideas."
Outside the window, snowflakes slowly drifted down from the pale winter sky.
Inside the café, warmth, laughter, and the sweet smell of cake filled the air.
And across the street, standing quietly near another small café—
A man watched the crowded shop with narrowed eyes.
His fists clenched slowly.
The town might be celebrating cake today.
But he had no intention of letting Noah's café enjoy the spotlight forever.
