Chapter 33 - A Little Sweet Idea

Chapter Thirty-Three

A Little Sweet Idea

(Clare's POV)

I hated seeing Noah sad.

She tried to hide it, of course.

She still smiled at customers. She still helped Emma in the kitchen. She even laughed when Jack complained about the rival café.

But I could see it.

Every time someone walked past our door and headed across the street for candy.

Every time the café felt quieter than before.

Noah pretended it didn't bother her.

But it did.

And I couldn't just sit there doing nothing.

So that evening, while everyone was busy in the café, I slipped quietly into the kitchen.

The room smelled like butter and sugar from the cakes we had baked earlier.

I stared at the jar of sugar on the shelf.

Candy… was just melted sugar, right?

"Well," I murmured to myself, tying my apron, "how hard can it be?"

I placed a small pot on the stove and poured a little sugar inside.

Slowly, the crystals began to melt.

The white grains turned golden as the heat rose beneath the pot.

"Interesting," I whispered.

I stirred it carefully.

But when I tried lifting the spoon, the sugar stretched into thin sticky threads.

"Oh."

That wasn't what I expected.

Curious, I pulled the spoon higher.

The melted sugar stretched even more, forming delicate strands in the air.

They almost looked like… threads of silk.

Suddenly I heard Jack's voice from the café.

"Clare? Are you planning to burn the kitchen?"

"I'm experimenting!" I called back.

Jack groaned loudly.

"That word never leads to good things."

I rolled my eyes and turned back to the pot.

The sugar threads had cooled slightly.

When I touched them gently, they felt soft and fluffy.

Almost like tiny clouds.

"Huh…"

An idea slowly formed in my mind.

I quickly wrapped the sugar strands around a small wooden stick, spinning them lightly in the air.

More threads gathered together.

Soon I was holding a soft ball of sugary fluff.

It looked like a tiny cloud.

I stared at it in surprise.

"Well… that's new."

Just then Noah stepped into the kitchen.

"What are you doing?"

I turned around quickly.

"Perfect timing!"

She blinked.

"Why are you holding a cloud?"

"It's not a cloud," I said proudly.

"It's… an experiment."

Jack and Daniel appeared behind her, curious.

Jack crossed his arms.

"This looks suspicious."

I ignored him and grabbed a fresh cup of hot coffee.

"Watch this."

I placed the fluffy sugar cloud gently above the steaming cup.

The warm steam slowly touched the delicate strands.

Little by little, the sugar began melting.

Thin golden drops fell softly into the coffee.

Noah leaned closer.

Her eyes widened.

"It looks like rain."

Daniel smiled.

"A sweet rain cloud."

Jack stared at the cup with fascination.

"Wait… that's actually amazing."

The sugar cloud slowly disappeared, melting into the coffee.

Noah picked up the cup carefully and took a sip.

For a moment she said nothing.

Then her face lit up.

"It's perfect."

Relief washed over me instantly.

"Really?"

She nodded quickly.

"Yes! It's sweet but not too sweet."

Jack leaned closer, studying the cup.

"So… we made coffee rain?"

Daniel laughed.

"I think we invented something better."

Noah looked at the fluffy sugar cloud still in my hand.

"We should sell this."

Jack snapped his fingers.

"I have the perfect name."

Everyone looked at him.

He grinned proudly.

"Cloud Coffee."

For the first time that day, Noah laughed properly.

And suddenly the quiet café didn't feel so heavy anymore.

Outside, snow continued falling gently over the town.

But inside Noah's café, a new sweet idea had just been born.

And very soon—

The town would be talking about clouds instead of candy.
