Maya's POV
The interrogation room was cold. Gray walls. One metal table. Two chairs facing each other like they were about to fight.
Kaden sat across from Cassandra Vale, and Maya watched from the corner, trying to disappear.
"Where were you when the wall breached?" Kaden asked. His voice was calm. Dangerous calm.
Cassandra didn't flinch. "Eastern command post. Organizing the third wave of fighters like you ordered me to." She looked at him straight in the eyes. No fear. No guilt. "Twenty people saw me there."
Kaden's jaw clenched. Twenty witnesses. That was bad for him.
"Someone knew exactly where the wall was weak. Someone with engineering knowledge." He leaned forward. "That someone had to be inside."
"Then check the engineers," Cassandra said. She almost smiled. "Not all of us are trying to stab you in the back, Kaden."
But her eyes flicked to Maya for just a second. Long enough.
Cassandra was innocent. And she wanted Maya to know she knew that Maya knew.
