Chapter 22 - A Short Story

The smashing of footsteps was getting closer, and Moonlight grew weary, but the person's total value was weak and dim. Moonlight simply bent his face towards the noise while still on the floor.

The shadow of a figure rose up and not long, the entire body was in full display. Despite its body being hidden by the night, Moonlight saw it in the purest of quality.

A middle-aged man with a broad white face and eyes that wanted to shut itself from the world. He wore a surprised look as he spotted the dazed Moonlight on the floor. He sighed and moved closer.

He got closer and gained a perfect upward view of Moonlight and then, he sighed again. "Gunna be trouble…"

He whispered but Moonlight heard him well.

Moonlight stared at him, observing him from up to bottom and turned away, not reacting in the slightest.

The man stood there for some time and then sat, clearing his blue jacket off the way. He faced Moonlight with closed eyes and again, sighed.

"What's your name kid?"

He began, in a low and clear tone.

Moonlight turned and ignored.

The man inhaled the air and murmured, "Not going to be easy, huh…"

He looked up to the sky and focused on the stars, he did that for like five minutes and during that time, he took glances at Moonlight, periodically. "If…"

After a long quiet while, "Hey kid, do you want to hear a story?"

Moonlight ear's shot up, same with his instincts, but he did not move.

The man nodded, amused.

"Well, long…."

In a city in the east, there lived a man and his family. They were happy but also poor. The mother was a full housewife, so she contributed nothing to the home and the father's income was declining at an outstanding rate.

Due to this reason, they relocated this worst of the worst were either the rent was totally cheap or free for some reasons. This seemed like the best idea and the family can now survive, at least.

Luckily for them, they were taken to a spot where the ground was healthy and was spacious enough for a family of three. They had to cramp together, but they got a home, so it was worth it. However, the man then spent his time finding a new job and eventually caught wind of one.

It was farming.

They planted common flowers and gained little, but it was enough. A year passed and they could gladly say they tried to feed their house. But, one day, the man caught his wife in bed with another man.

"Huh."

Due to lack of courage, he foolishly waited outside the house and peeked at his wife getting destroyed. He was angry then; he heard something that broke his heart. He heard, "As long as you offer yourself to me, your business shall grow."

The man hearing this ran to his house and cried and from that day on he no longer saw his wife the same way ever again.

Now, this man had a son. The boy had always lived in isolation, not going outside or seeing other people. He even rarely crossed eyes with his own father. Only his mother was allowed to go near him, and they indeed were very close.

Then suddenly, their family business began to boom but the man still wore a hidden smile. They then moved to a bigger town and settled there, in a calm neighborhood. Their farmland was run by one of their relatives, and it was considered the fastest growing in the city.

Eventually, they all lived happily ever after.

However,

'There's more…?'

The man noticed something about his child. The bow would never play with his mates. At first, he thought it was the situation but now that was proving wrong. His mind raced, how should he advice his only child? And eventually, he forgot.

After various attempts by his mother, the boy surprisingly changed. He played, interacted and this made the father happy. Later, the man began to hear rumors of his child being a liar.

Then, the man received a letter from his former job and he saw the pay. It was enough to keep the entire family for life. Immediately, he prepared to leave and then, he remembered. He went to his son and asked a question, 'Do you hate me?'

The son did not answer and time was running out. Then,

"What's that?!"

"Huh? Well,"

"Not the story; but the sky." Moonlight said

"Huh."

Moonlight got up instantly and moved to the end of the floor. He looked to the sky and hummed.

Immediately, he ran down the stairs to the lowest floor.

The man watched this happen and was unsure of what was happening. "I was sure I began the right way. Kids…Oh…"

The man turned, facing the night sky.

"Today of all days. Tch…"
