Chapter 29 - New Friend

Despite sensing Jaxon's scent and almost driving myself mad in a bid to find out what, how, and where it came from last night, I slept better than I expected.

Perhaps it was the exhaustion that finally caught up with me. Or perhaps it was the quiet of Cedar Creek itself. Whatever the reason, I woke up feeling rested.

Pushing the memory of Jaxon's scent away, I dressed quickly and followed the servant who arrived to escort me to breakfast. The moment we entered the grand dining hall, I paused. Cedar Creek clearly did nothing halfway. The breakfast spread looked more like a celebration feast. Long tables had been filled with platters of roasted meats, fresh fruits, bread still warm from the ovens, and pitchers of honeyed milk. The scent alone was enough to remind my stomach that I had barely eaten since the ambush.

Darius stood near the head of the table, speaking with several members of his pack. When he noticed me enter, his face brightened immediately.
