BWDC:SDDK Chapter 136: You Won't Even Call Me Batman
Miyano Akemi, currently using the alias Hirota Masami, felt a flicker of uneise in her heart.
Though she told herself it was irrational, she felt as if two pairs of eyes were watching her from the shadows. Despite not knowing who it was, she instinctively thought of a specific duo.
The most efficient pair in the Black Organization.
The combination of Gin and Vodka.
The task of taking Miyano Shiho and leaving the Organization was under the full authority of Gin and Vodka. She had heard they left Tokyo after completing a transaction on a train, but she couldn't say for sure if they had quietly slipped back into the city to monitor her from the darkness.
Aside from Gin and Vodka, Akemi couldn't imagine anyone else who would observe her so covertly. After all, she hadn't committed any illegal acts since that last robbery; even the police shouldn't be tailing her constantly, and no one else would have a reason to focus on an ordinary bank clerk.
"...I hope this operation goes smoothly," Akemi whispered.
She had placed all her hopes on this mission. However, she was prepared for Gin and Vodka to go back on their word. She had drafted a scheduled text message on her phone; if she didn't cancel it in time, it would automatically be sent to her boyfriend, Dai Moroboshi.
She had also prepared a hiding spot for the one billion yen. Once the money was secured, she would hide it immediately and only hand it over after Gin and Vodka fulfilled their end of the deal.
Even though she never wanted to do something like this again—for the sake of her sister, she was willing to do it one last time.
She soon arrived at the warehouse where she had agreed to meet her accomplices. Several other cars were already parked there.
As Akemi stepped into the dark warehouse, the other robbers who had agreed to join her revealed themselves. Looking at the organizer and mastermind of the heist, they couldn't help but feel impressed.
As expected of a veteran who had robbed a bank before! Even though she was a girl, she looked incredibly reliable.
"Let's discuss the specific execution plan," Akemi said seriously.
Tomorrow was the day the Organization permitted her to meet her sister. She had to arrange everything today so she could meet her sister with peace of mind before executing the bank robbery...
All installed!
This one, this one, and that one!
Ren Ichimonji unceremoniously planted bugs and trackers inside all the robbers' vehicles.
He snapped a photo of the license plates, planning to look up the owners once the five-minute cooldown on his Oracle state refreshed. After all, Japan was a peculiar place; without a national ID system, driver's licenses were the standard proof of identity.
"Finally, let's add a surveillance camera."
Ren stuck a camera on the building opposite the abandoned warehouse. This ensured that when the people inside emerged, the camera would record every face, making it easier for him to target them one by one later.
By the time Ren finished his work, the people inside still hadn't detected his presence. They were still busy discussing how to achieve their impossible dream of a bank heist.
If they actually managed to rob a bank under these circumstances, Ren figured he'd give up the Batman mantle and start over as Robin.
Buzz.
His phone vibrated. Ren stepped into the nearby shadows like he was taking a casual stroll. His body instantly merged with the darkness, leaving no trace. He didn't even glance at the caller ID; he knew exactly who would be calling at this hour.
He pressed the answer button. A moment later, a familiar voice came through.
"Ren, where are you? If you don't tell me, I'm coming over there on my skateboard right now!"
Conan's voice was visibly annoyed, likely huffing with frustration. The skateboard he mentioned was the one Ren had ditched him on during the previous trip to the East Tokyo Bank—the one that had broken mid-pursuit.
Dr. Agasa had since modified it. Now, the skateboard's top speed could rival the fastest cars. It took less than a second to accelerate and was solar-powered; as long as there was sunlight, it could run until the end of time! The Power Soccer Kid's skateboard wasn't just for show.
However, the fact that Conan was only threatening to come instead of actually showing up proved one thing: he felt he wouldn't make it in time. He was trying to bluff some information out of Ren.
To this, Ren replied with mock sorrow:
"Robin, I'm out here collecting intel on a criminal organization for you. How can you be so cold to me?"
"You won't even call me Batman!"
Conan: "?"
Are you doing this again?
Conan sat on his bedroom bed, feeling depressed. But then he remembered that Ren had no real reason to go against the Black Organization and was doing this entirely to help him. His gaze softened.
He sighed and said, "Fine, Batman. What's the situation on the ground?"
"Has Miyano Akemi met with Miyano Shiho—the one you called Sherry—yet? Why is the location showing in the suburbs? This meeting spot is way too remote."
Ren simply replied, "They're still planning a bank robbery. It's unlikely we'll find Miyano Shiho's location today."
"But, since you called me Batman, I'll make sure everything is sorted out for you."
"Just trust me. Trust doesn't need a reason."
Conan: "?"
What do you mean by "sorted out"? What kind of arrangement is that? And isn't it common knowledge that Batman shouldn't be trusted?
The "God of Death" elementary student was rendered speechless. Knowing that he wouldn't be meeting Miyano Shiho or getting the APTX-4869 antidote this time, his burning fighting spirit instantly evaporated. After asking a few more questions about the robbers, Conan ended the call.
At the same time, Miyano Akemi and her group walked out of the warehouse.
Their aura was reminiscent of "Young and Dangerous" stars—invincible legends of a chaotic era.
It was a bit hard to keep a straight face thinking about how this entire group would be "arranged" by Gin in just a few days. Especially considering that later, when Curacao would leak the list of undercover agents, Gin would travel the globe killing moles slower than he would kill these few robbers.
"That's about it."
Ren confirmed the information he had gathered.
Excellent. Next, it was time to find an opportunity to get these two sisters, Miyano Shiho and Miyano Akemi, completely sorted out.
