BWDC:SDDK Chapter 135: Akemi Miyano's Location Anomaly

"My name is Ren Ichimonji, Batman."

"I am trapped in my own blankets. The Sandman is trying to make me sink into a slumber, but I will never give up. Send me fifty dollars to support my wake-up plan..."

"Wait, what on earth am I saying?"

Ren Ichimonji sat up abruptly in bed, rubbing his forehead.

Last night, after using the "Holy Sword of Physics" to give the Joker a solid thwack, he had snapped out of that memory state—though he didn't regret leaving it. To be honest, those memories weren't exactly a pleasant experience.

Why bother experiencing that? To learn how to crawl around after having your legs broken?

He'd rather experience how to recover after having his back snapped by Bane. Perhaps one day Makoto Kyogoku would charge into Tokyo to challenge him to a duel; if his back got snapped then, at least he'd have a chance to respawn.

"Let's see what unaffordable items the System Store has for me today," Ren muttered as he got out of bed for his daily routine, grumbling internally.

The System Store interface immediately materialized, displaying today's three special items. Setting aside whether he could afford them, what was with the [Fortress of Solitude] in the middle slot?

Are you sure this is a Batman gadget?

Oh, right. There's a parallel universe where Kal-El landed in Gotham and became Batman. Never mind then.

Ignoring the system screen for a moment, Ren finished washing up, grabbed a quick breakfast, and began his daily workout. As the saying goes: Excellence comes from diligence; neglect leads to ruin.

The physical improvements gained from his Basic and Intermediate Combat Specialization training were real and permanent. Compared to his former self, his physical fitness had increased several times over. Even without activating the One-Minute Batman State, Ren felt that Ran Mouri's current speed and movements appeared full of openings. If he made a move, he could easily subdue her in a short amount of time.

In the context of the "Conan-verse," his combat power—without using any gadgets—was likely around Grade A.

In the world of Detective Conan, Gosho Aoyama had actually ranked the combat levels of various characters. Ran Mouri and Kogoro Mouri were Grade B; Heiji Hattori with a wooden sword was Grade B+; Rei Furuya and Shuichi Akai were Grade A; while Makoto Kyogoku was a unique Grade Special A, possessing a gap in power that allowed him to crush everyone else.

Ren's current level was clearly enough to handle ordinary criminals. After all, if his unarmed combat power was 100, then adding his stun gun, grapnel gun, and "physical crowbar" would probably push his actual combat effectiveness over 1,000.

Beep. Beep.

Ren heard a sound. He pulled a tracker out of his pocket. On the screen, a signal indicated that a target had veered off their normal path, triggering the alert.

It was Akemi Miyano's coordinates.

Is she finally going to meet Shiho Miyano?

Ren frowned, sensing something was off. Akemi's vehicle wasn't moving toward a location within the city; instead, it was clearly heading toward the outskirts. Where was she going?

He turned to the map of Beika City hanging on the wall. Ren placed his finger on the coordinates for the Beika Branch of the Shirobi Bank and quickly traced the path she had taken according to the tracker.

Indeed, she was moving toward the suburbs—specifically, toward the abandoned warehouse district. The kidnappers who had previously taken Minami Takayama and Shiina Nagano had also gone there. It truly was a "sacred land" for criminal activity.

This obviously wasn't a case of Akemi taking the ten billion yen to meet her heist accomplices. Ren knew the news hadn't reported the theft yet, and he knew Akemi didn't trust Gin, so she would likely hide the money elsewhere once the job was done. Her current movement toward the warehouses didn't fit that scenario.

Most likely, she was contacting other accomplices to make final arrangements for the Shirobi Bank robbery.

"Better to be safe than sorry," Ren whispered.

He needed to go and check it out, record the information of Akemi's accomplices, and prepare in advance to ensure he could catch them all in one fell swoop when they finally acted. Unless absolutely necessary, he didn't plan to close the net early; otherwise, getting Shiho Miyano out safely would be a massive headache.

Given that almost every "Red Team" character was related to one another in some way, he—as a complete outsider—at least needed to establish some connections to facilitate backup plans for their safety.

Of course, he wouldn't leave these backup plans on a computer or write them down. That would be moronic. There was no absolutely safe place in the world, but if there were, Ren believed it would only be inside his Six-Slot Utility Belt. No one but him could retrieve items from it.

"Moving out," Ren said.

Mouri Detective Agency

Because he had stayed up too late the night before, Conan, struggling to wake up early with dark circles under his eyes, scratched his hair. He glanced over at the spot where Uncle Kogoro had already disappeared for the day.

He pulled his school bag over, rummaged through it, and pulled out a tracker hidden in a secret compartment.

Ren and he each had one. Professor Agasa couldn't possibly play favorites—and even if he did, he certainly wouldn't leave Conan out.

Conan performed his routine check of Akemi Miyano's route. He was about to toss it back into his bag and go get breakfast when, the moment he stood up, he noticed a crucial detail.

Conan: ?

Did Akemi Miyano's movement path just change? It was different from his memory.

Conan quickly pulled the tracker back out. Sure enough, the route had shifted. She was no longer moving in a straight line between her home and the Shirobi Bank. She had detoured toward the outskirts, likely the warehouse district.

By instinct, Conan threw on his suit jacket and stuffed the tracker into his pocket. He ran downstairs and, under Kogoro Mouri's confused gaze, pressed himself against the window, staring at the penthouse balcony of the apartment building across the street.

] [

Empty. It was empty!

If he had noticed it, there was no way a "superhuman" like Ren Ichimonji, who seemingly never slept, hadn't noticed.

Conan felt his anger levels spike instantly.

That damn Batman... No, that damn Ren Ichimonji!

You naturally devious old bat, you're moving without me again! This is outrageous!

(Heiji Hattori: Yes, kids, I am indeed Soshi Okita's arch-rival.)
