BWDC:SDDK Chapter 84: What the...? This is How You Level Up My Skills?

[High-Difficulty Public Security Mission Complete!]

[100 points reward has been credited, please check!]

[Assisted Commissioner Gordon in solving a thorny problem, 50 points reward has been issued!]

Agasa Residence - Research Lab.

At this very moment, Professor Agasa was sitting by the television, his expression dead serious as he waited for further reports from the news station.

He didn't plan on sleeping tonight.

Something big was coming. Something huge!!!

He was so preoccupied that he didn't even notice Ren Ichimonji sliding past him, humming a little tune about gaining rank.

It wasn't until Ren entered Agasa's private room.

While Ren was routinely using his five-minute Oracle state to "discipline" the Noah's Ark program...

Professor Agasa finally snapped out of it.

Wait? Something feels a bit off.

Did someone just go into my room?

Oh no, my unsaved program!

Agasa scrambled to his feet. Just as he was about to push the door open, he heard a voice from inside.

"Just borrowing this for a second, I'll be done soon."

It was Ren's voice.

Hearing this, Agasa instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

He couldn't quite trust others.

But Conan and Ren? He trusted them completely.

Because those two never touched the computer he used for running programs.

---Except, that wasn't true.

Ren had plugged the data cable of his special-purpose microcomputer into Agasa's PC.

Skillfully utilizing the high-level computing power of his five-minute Oracle state, he "tortured" the Noah's Ark code, ensuring that the portion Agasa was responsible for completed its metamorphosis.

It went from being a program with a backdoor to being a backdoor that contained a program.

Once this step was finished, Ren finally pulled his data cable out of Agasa's computer.

With a "waste not, want not" mindset, he turned his attention to searching for IP addresses in the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office area, hoping to find Masumi Kusakabe's private computer—

Unfortunately, he didn't find anything this time.

Ren let out a sigh of regret as he adjusted his wheelchair.

By now, it was 1:30 AM.

His total points had successfully risen from 350 to 500.

---This was because Ren had successfully neutralized the possibility of Teiji Moriya carrying out a bombing spree.

Although a specific Public Security Mission hadn't been triggered yet, the system directly judged it as a completed high-difficulty mission.

This was likely because Teiji Moriya had already planted explosives in several private residences he had designed and was ready to act. However, because the key figure, Shinichi Kudo, hadn't appeared yet, it wasn't considered an active mission by the system's countdown standards.

Regardless, the points were in his hand.

Ren swiped open the System Shop.

For a moment, he felt a surge of wealth.

He even briefly considered whether he should upgrade his wheelchair to a new version with RGB lighting and a high-speed dash function.

Ultimately, though, Ren gave up on the idea.

The "Special Items" section of the shop gave him a harsh reality check.

It cleared his mind instantly.

Saving points isn't over yet; the Bat still needs to work hard!

"But... the option to upgrade special items has finally unlocked."

"But 500 points just to upgrade a single designated item once? And only some items are eligible? This is a total rip-off. I might as well save up and buy a 1,000-point item instead," Ren grumbled as he looked at the new options in the shop.

The special items he currently possessed weren't many.

Batman's Coffee Cup, the Six-Slot Utility Belt, the Special-Purpose Microcomputer, and the Kind Crowbar.

Only the first three could be upgraded: extending the Batman duration to three minutes, increasing the belt to twelve slots, and bumping the Oracle state from five minutes to ten.

If he had to choose one to upgrade...

Ren favored the coffee cup.

One upgrade tripled the duration.

While one minute of Batman time was enough for ordinary criminals, it was a bit tight for the troublesome ones. Three minutes would ensure he could solve the problem or retreat safely in almost any crisis.

"It's a shame there's no option for a direct physical stat boost."

He was still pining for the "Absolute Universe Batman" physique.

He muttered to himself, "However, skill upgrades are instantaneous and come with a slight physical boost as a side effect..."

"Since I have spare points, I might as well pick up a Low-Level Combat Mastery to buff my body a bit."

"Otherwise, if I get clubbed from behind like a certain famous detective because I couldn't react in time, it's game over. What's the point of having points if you're dead?"

Ren tapped on [Low-Level Combat Skill Mastery].

His total of 500 points instantly dropped to 400.

Bats swirled around this narrow, dark place.

Ren snapped back to his senses and looked up, scanning his surroundings.

He didn't feel particularly afraid or disgusted by the bats.

It wasn't just because he was the Beika Batman.

It was simply that Ren never felt these little creatures, who navigated by sound, were scary—aside from the germs they carried.

"So, isn't this supposed to be a skill upgrade?"

"Where the hell did you send me?"

Ren muttered. Then, his intuition told him there was something behind him.

In the next heartbeat, he spun around.

A figure had appeared there at some unknown point.

Ren couldn't clearly see the person's face.

However, he vaguely knew who it was, and by extension, he realized where he was.

He understood why clicking a skill upgrade had brought him to this place.

"What the...? This is how you level up my skills?" Ren complained instinctively.

Creak.

The door to Agasa's room was pushed open.

Ren rubbed his cheeks, stepping out with a sharp, piercing gaze.

Compared to before, the current Ren felt significantly more dangerous.

And that was the truth.

Ren was more dangerous now.

His combat mastery had reached the Beginner level.

Furthermore, in the real world, less than a second had passed.

"Damned Old Bat... since when does 'Beginner Combat Mastery' mean being proficient in every martial arts style in existence?"

"Don't tell me 'Intermediate' is master-level in everything, and 'Advanced' is total synthesis?" Ren muttered.

"Then what the hell is 'Top-Tier'? Lady Shiva herself giving me private lessons?"

He looked up at the television.

At this moment, members of the Public Security Bureau had finally moved into the warehouse.

They found Teiji Moriya tied to a pillar.

Along with a looped recording of a confession, a massive amount of plastic explosives, and detailed maps of the blast zones.

The news helicopter captured the moment Moriya appeared on screen.

But soon, the view was blocked, and the helicopter was forced to gain altitude and leave.

Still, that single moment was enough to shock Professor Agasa.

"Someone actually took care of Teiji Moriya in advance!"

"Who on earth did it?" Agasa exclaimed.

Ren poked his head out from the side and answered.

"I did."

Professor Agasa: "?"
