CHAPTER 17, THE PATH OF CONTROL BEGINS
The room remained still after Jay spoke.
"For the first time… I saw myself."
Those words didn't carry confusion.
They carried clarity.
A quiet kind of understanding.
Mr. Arvind watched him closely.
Not interrupting.
Not questioning.
Just observing.
Because something had changed.
Not outside—
But inside Jay.
"…Then tell me," Arvind said finally, his voice calm, "what did you understand?"
Jay didn't answer immediately.
He looked down at his hands.
Slowly clenched them.
Then released them again.
"There are… two parts of me," he said.
"One that feels… human."
A brief pause.
"And one that doesn't."
The air felt heavier again—
But not unstable.
Just intense.
Arvind nodded slightly.
"And?"
Jay lifted his gaze.
"I can't reject either of them."
Silence.
Then—
A faint smile appeared on Arvind's face.
"Good."
He stepped closer.
"Because if you tried…"
A short pause.
"…you wouldn't survive it."
—
Jay didn't react.
Not with fear.
Not this time.
Because now—
He understood something important.
Running away wouldn't help.
Denying it wouldn't change anything.
The only way forward—
Was through it.
—
"Then what's next?" Jay asked.
Arvind's expression turned serious again.
"Now… we train."
—
Jay's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Train?"
"Yes."
Arvind walked toward the center of the room again.
"This power of yours…"
"…is no longer sleeping."
A pause.
"It's waking up."
Jay felt that truth immediately.
Deep inside him—
Something was no longer silent.
It wasn't raging either.
It was… aware.
—
"And if you don't learn to control it," Arvind continued,
"it will control you."
Jay took a slow breath.
"…Then teach me."
—
Arvind raised his hand slightly.
"First lesson—control without suppression."
Jay frowned.
"That sounds… complicated."
"It is," Arvind replied simply.
"But necessary."
—
He pointed toward Jay.
"Don't shut it down."
"Don't push it away."
A pause.
"Call it."
Jay's eyes widened slightly.
"…Call it?"
Arvind nodded.
"Bring it out."
"Forcing it back is what caused the imbalance."
Jay hesitated.
Every instinct in him resisted that idea.
Bringing it out?
After everything that had happened?
"That's risky," Jay said.
"Yes," Arvind agreed.
"But avoiding it is worse."
—
Silence filled the room.
Jay closed his eyes again.
Took a deep breath.
Then another.
"…Alright."
—
Inside—
The darkness returned.
But this time—
Jay didn't wait.
"Come out," he said.
His voice echoed.
Clear.
Firm.
No hesitation.
For a moment—
Nothing happened.
Then—
The shadow appeared.
Faster than before.
Closer than before.
"You call me now," it said.
Jay didn't flinch.
"Yes."
The shadow tilted its head.
"Why?"
Jay's answer was immediate.
"Because I'm done running."
Silence.
Then—
A faint shift.
The shadow stepped closer.
"…Then don't run."
—
Outside—
Jay's body tensed.
The red glow returned to his eyes.
But it didn't surge.
Didn't explode.
It stayed contained.
Controlled.
Mr. Arvind's eyes sharpened.
"…Good," he murmured.
—
Inside—
Jay stood face to face with the shadow.
No fear.
No denial.
Just awareness.
"What are you?" he asked.
The shadow looked directly at him.
"I am you."
Jay nodded slightly.
"…Then prove it."
A pause.
Then—
The shadow raised its hand.
And this time—
Jay didn't resist.
—
Energy surged.
But it didn't hurt.
It flowed.
Through him.
Around him.
With him.
—
Memories flickered—
But they didn't overwhelm him.
They passed.
Like glimpses.
Like echoes.
Jay's breathing stayed steady.
His stance didn't break.
—
Outside—
The pressure in the room increased slightly.
But it wasn't chaotic.
It was stable.
Like a system finding balance.
Arvind watched carefully.
"…He's adapting."
—
Inside—
The shadow stopped.
Just inches away.
And for the first time—
Its form became clearer.
Not fully visible.
But no longer just darkness.
Jay stared at it.
"…You're changing."
The shadow replied—
"No."
A pause.
"You are."
—
Jay exhaled slowly.
"I won't let you take control."
The shadow's red glow flickered faintly.
"I don't need to."
Jay's eyes narrowed.
"What does that mean?"
The answer came calmly—
"Because eventually…"
A pause.
"…you will choose me."
—
Jay froze.
Those words hit deeper than anything else.
Because—
A part of him knew…
That might be true.
—
His eyes snapped open.
The red glow faded slightly.
He stepped back.
Breathing steady—
But heavier.
"…That's dangerous," he said.
Arvind didn't disagree.
"Yes."
A pause.
"But that's the reality you're facing."
—
Jay looked down.
Then back up.
"…Then I won't choose wrong."
Arvind's gaze sharpened.
"Then prove it."
—
Suddenly—
The markings on the wall glowed faintly.
The air shifted.
Something activated.
Jay felt it instantly.
A new pressure.
Different from before.
Controlled.
Artificial.
"…What is this?" Jay asked.
Arvind stepped back.
"Lesson two."
A pause.
"Control under pressure."
—
The floor beneath Jay's feet vibrated slightly.
Energy rose from the markings.
Wrapping around him.
Restricting.
Testing.
Jay's body tensed.
His eyes flickered red again.
But this time—
He didn't lose control.
He didn't lash out.
He didn't panic.
He stood still.
Focused.
Balanced.
—
Inside—
The shadow watched.
Silently.
Closely.
Because this—
Was new.
—
Jay took a slow breath.
Then another.
The pressure increased.
But he didn't break.
Didn't react.
Didn't lose himself.
—
For the first time—
He endured it.
—
Outside—
Mr. Arvind's expression changed slightly.
"…He's doing it."
—
Seconds passed.
Then—
The pressure slowly faded.
The markings dimmed.
The room returned to normal.
—
Jay exhaled deeply.
His body relaxed.
But he didn't collapse.
Didn't lose control.
He stayed standing.
—
"…Not bad," Arvind said.
Jay looked at him.
Tired.
But steady.
"…That was just the beginning, right?"
Arvind gave a small nod.
"Yes."
A pause.
"And it will only get harder."
—
Jay didn't hesitate.
"Good."
—
Because now—
He wasn't afraid of the power inside him.
He wasn't running from it.
—
He was facing it.
—
And deep inside—
The shadow smiled again.
Because the path Jay had chosen…
Was the most dangerous one of all.
The path of balance.
The path of control.
The path where one wrong step—
Could turn him into something unstoppable.
Or something uncontrollable.
And once that line was crossed—
There would be no going back. 🔥👁️
