CHAPTER 16, THE TWO SIDES WITHIN
The room fell silent after Jay's words.
"I'm ready."
For a moment, nothing moved.
No sound.
No reaction.
Just that sentence… hanging in the air.
Mr. Arvind studied him carefully.
Not just his face—
But his eyes.
His posture.
His breathing.
He wasn't looking at a student anymore.
He was observing something else.
Something far more dangerous.
"…Then we begin now," Arvind said.
—
The symbols on the walls suddenly flickered.
Not visibly glowing—
But shifting.
As if they had responded to something.
Jay felt it immediately.
A strange sensation ran through his body.
Like the room itself had become aware of him.
"What is this place… really?" Jay asked.
Mr. Arvind walked toward the center.
"It's a containment field," he replied.
"Designed to suppress abnormal energy."
Jay frowned.
"Then why do I feel stronger here?"
That made Arvind pause.
Just for a second.
"…Because it's reacting to you," he said.
"And that means—"
He looked directly at Jay.
"…you're no longer just carrying the power."
A small pause.
"You're synchronizing with it."
—
Jay didn't fully understand.
But he felt it.
Something inside him—
Was no longer resisting.
It wasn't fighting.
It was… aligning.
That realization made his chest tighten.
—
"First," Arvind said, "you need to stop reacting."
Jay blinked.
"What?"
"You fight when you're pushed. You lose control when you're overwhelmed."
A step closer.
"That ends now."
Jay's eyes hardened slightly.
"Then what do I do?"
Arvind raised his hand.
"Feel it."
Silence.
Jay stood still.
"…Feel what?"
Arvind's voice lowered.
"The thing inside you."
A pause.
"Don't fight it."
Jay hesitated.
Every instinct in him screamed not to do that.
Not after what he had seen.
Not after what he had felt.
But—
He closed his eyes anyway.
—
At first—
Nothing.
Just darkness.
Just silence.
Then—
A faint pulse.
Like a heartbeat.
Not his.
Something else.
Slow.
Heavy.
Jay's breathing changed.
He focused on it.
The pulse grew clearer.
Stronger.
Closer.
And then—
The red glow returned.
—
Outside—
Mr. Arvind saw it immediately.
Jay's eyes, even while closed, began to glow faintly through his eyelids.
The air in the room shifted.
But this time—
It wasn't violent.
It wasn't unstable.
It was controlled.
Contained.
"…Good," Arvind murmured.
"Keep going."
—
Inside Jay's mind—
The darkness returned.
But now—
It wasn't overwhelming.
It was calm.
Still.
Jay stood there.
Waiting.
And then—
The shadow appeared.
Not far.
Not threatening.
Just there.
Watching him.
"You came willingly this time," it said.
Jay didn't flinch.
"…I need answers."
The shadow didn't move.
"You are getting them."
Jay's fists clenched.
"Not enough."
A pause.
Then—
"I want control."
Silence.
The shadow studied him.
Long.
Carefully.
Then—
"Control comes with acceptance."
Jay's eyes narrowed.
"Acceptance of what?"
The answer came immediately.
"Yourself."
Jay's jaw tightened.
"That's the problem. I don't know what that is."
The shadow stepped closer.
For the first time—
There was no overwhelming pressure.
Only presence.
"You do."
Jay shook his head.
"No."
"You just refuse to accept it."
—
Jay's mind flashed—
The battlefield.
The destruction.
That version of him.
Cold.
Emotionless.
Powerful.
"No…" Jay whispered.
"That's not me."
The shadow stopped in front of him.
"It is."
A pause.
"But not all of you."
Jay looked up.
"…What does that mean?"
The shadow raised its hand.
But this time—
It didn't touch him.
It simply pointed behind him.
Jay turned.
—
And saw something new.
—
Not darkness.
Not destruction.
But light.
Faint.
Distant.
A second presence.
Much weaker.
But real.
Jay's breath caught.
"What… is that?"
The shadow's voice echoed softly.
"That…"
"…is the part of you that remained human."
Silence.
Jay stared at it.
Confused.
"…So I'm… both?"
The shadow didn't answer directly.
"You are divided."
"Not complete."
"And that is why…"
A pause.
"…you are unstable."
Jay slowly turned back.
His thoughts racing.
"Then… if I combine both…?"
The shadow's red glow deepened slightly.
"Then you become whole."
Jay's heart skipped.
"…And what happens then?"
This time—
The shadow smiled faintly.
"…That depends on which side you choose."
—
Outside—
Jay's body stood still.
Completely calm.
But the energy in the room had changed.
It was no longer clashing.
It was balancing.
Mr. Arvind's eyes narrowed slightly.
"…Interesting."
—
Inside—
Jay looked between the light and the shadow.
Two parts.
Two paths.
Two identities.
His voice was low.
"…So I have to choose."
The shadow replied—
"No."
A pause.
"You have to become both."
Jay froze.
"…Both?"
"Yes."
"Because rejecting either…"
"…will destroy you."
—
Suddenly—
Jay's eyes snapped open.
The red glow was there—
But softer.
Controlled.
Different.
He took a slow breath.
Then looked at Mr. Arvind.
"…I saw it."
Arvind didn't move.
"What did you see?"
Jay's voice was steady.
"For the first time…"
A small pause.
"…I saw myself."
—
The room fell silent again.
But this time—
It wasn't fear.
It wasn't tension.
It was something else.
The beginning of understanding.
—
But deep inside—
The shadow remained.
Watching.
Waiting.
Because the real test—
Hadn't even begun yet. 🔥👁️
