After observing them for a moment, Chen Chen stopped staring and slowly began walking toward the warriors.
Sif, startled by Chen Chen's actions, was momentarily distracted by the sudden appearance of the Krunan warriors. As if forgetting his earlier display of magical prowess, she reached out and placed her hand on his shoulder, exclaiming urgently:
"Are you trying to get yourself killed? Don't approach a Krunan Warrior so casually!"
But after a moment, Sif fell silent. She seemed to remember that Chen Chen was a powerful mage, and that strong individuals deserved respect. Perhaps her reaction had been overly sensitive. Slowly, she withdrew her hand from his shoulder.
"I'm sorry. I'm not questioning your strength, but as a mage, you shouldn't be rushing in so recklessly." Her long, black hair, now slightly disheveled by the chaos of battle, framed eyes that shone with unwavering resolve. Gazing at Chen Chen, Sif lowered her voice. "While your magical prowess is formidable, you might not fully understand the Krunan Warriors. Anyone with less than exceptional physical conditioning would be crushed in their presence. Their silicon-based bodies possess remarkable resistance to energy attacks, greatly diminishing the effectiveness of a mage's spells. Physical attacks with weapons would be far more effective."
With that, Sif pointed at a Krunan Warrior.
"So, during the fight, we'll work together. I'll be the main attacker, and you'll support me from the side."
"Uh..."
Chen Chen couldn't help but feel speechless. He glanced down at his attire. Did he truly look so unsuited to close-quarters combat? He held up his pale, slender hands, devoid of any calluses, and examined them for a moment. "Alright, I guess I really don't."
Shaking her head, Chen Chen was about to say something more to Sif when he noticed she was already slightly hunched over, slowly closing in on the Krunan Warrior.
"Ha!" At that instant, just as the Krunan Warrior raised his arms, exposing a defensive opening, Sif let out a sudden war cry. Discarding her shield, she gripped her broadsword with both hands and charged forward with blinding speed. Her figure kicked up a cloud of dust behind her, transforming into a silver arrow streaking toward her target.
"Hm?" Sensing the intense killing intent, the invaders cheering around the Krunan Warrior immediately turned toward the source of the threat. But they saw only several streaks of silver light flashing before their eyes.
*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!*
*Crack!* The necks of the invaders closest to Sif snapped backward, their heads flying off as the silver light was their last vision.
Yet Sif's assault showed no sign of slowing. Reaching the Krunan Warrior, she dragged her Uru sword—specially forged in Asgard—across his stony hide. A sizzling sound filled the air as sparks flew from the blade where it touched the warrior's hide.
Although her attack had struck the enemy, Hime felt the feedback from her longsword didn't suggest it had pierced deeply into the Krunan Warrior's body.
As expected, only a shallow white mark remained on the warrior's abdomen—her surprise attack had failed to inflict any real damage!
Without missing a beat, Sif immediately rolled along the ground, narrowly dodging the Krunan Warrior's devastating overhead strike. Twisting her head, she shouted to Chen Chen, "Lord Chen Chen, please assist me!"
With that, she charged head-on at the Krunan Warrior, her longsword slashing rapidly across his body, sparks flying with each strike.
Hearing Sif's call for aid, Chen Chen's expression remained calm. He slowly raised his right hand, extended his index finger, and pointed it at the Krunan Warrior Sif was locked in combat with. A faint blue light flowed from within him to his fingertip, coalescing into a small energy orb that clung to the tip of his finger, its glow as faint as a firefly.
"Ah!" At that moment, the Krunan Warrior's spiked club struck the sword Sif was blocking in front of her. An overwhelming force surged forward, sending her feet skidding across the muddy ground, leaving long, deep gouges in the earth.
"Whew, he's definitely strong," Sif exhaled, feeling a tingling numbness in her hands. It was as if her arms no longer belonged to her, beyond her control. Turning to look at Chen Chen, she saw his spell light was exceptionally faint, its power perhaps less than that of her own sneeze. For a moment, Sif felt her breath catch in her throat from sheer frustration.
But this was no time for anger. The ground trembled with the thunderous approach of the Krunan Warrior.
Seeing Sif disengage from the fight, the warrior charged forward, his thick thighs pounding the earth, each step leaving a deep pit. Despite his massive and clumsy frame, his movements were astonishingly swift. In the blink of an eye, he was within two meters of Chen Chen and Sif, his spiked club raised high. The air whistled as it swung down toward Chen Chen.
Sif watched the mace grow closer and closer to Chen Chen, imagining his head exploding in the next moment. A pang of sorrow and regret flashed through her mind—a young and powerful mage, cut down in his prime due to a momentary mistake.
Yet the gruesome scene she envisioned never materialized.
Just as the mace was about to strike Chen Chen's head, the Krunan Warrior froze mid-swing, as if struck by a paralysis spell. Looking down, they saw a massive hole torn through its body—covering nearly a third of its torso, a terrifying sight. Within the cavity, a faint blue light, as weak as a firefly, floated.
*Thud!* The massive mace clattered to the ground as the Krunan Warrior collapsed.
A deathly silence descended upon the battlefield, everything utterly bizarre. A Krunan Warrior, seemingly unharmed moments before, now bore a gaping hole in its body, accompanied by a faint blue glow. The mysterious mage, the shocking scene—all left the onlookers stunned.
Seeing Sif staring at him with a dazed expression, Chen Chen waved his hand in front of her face. "Now's not the time to space out. Finish handling the rest of the situation quickly. And then explain to me what exactly is going on here."
