The tiny escape pod felt like it was sitting inside a giant, roaring oven.
The bright orange fire outside the window was growing thicker and brighter every single second. The little metal room was shaking so violently that Nikki's teeth rattled in her head. The warning alarms didn't stop screaming. The broken shield on the bottom of the pod couldn't keep the fire away, and the walls were starting to turn a terrifying, glowing red.
It was getting hard to breathe. The air was heavy and thick with heat.
"Adonis," Nikki choked out, wiping sweat from her forehead. She looked at the giant man sitting crammed into the small seat next to her. "We are going to burn."
Adonis didn't look at the flashing red lights. He didn't look at the angry fire outside the window. He only looked at Nikki.
