"Thank you, Mr. Adams, for saving me."
The words struck Adams far harder than she realized. The faint smile on his face instantly disappeared as his heart tightened painfully inside his chest.
Sonia immediately noticed the subtle change in his expression. Her brows knitted together in confusion. 'Had she said something wrong?'
Before she could think any further, Adams finally spoke. "Am I just Mr. Adams to you?"
His voice was calm and gentle, but beneath it lay a quiet sadness that was impossible to hide.
Sonia sighed and slowly shook her head. "It's really not so. But I still need time to adjust. Besides... this is only your assumption."
Adams rubbed his forehead helplessly before letting out a quiet sigh. "Alright. Then I think it's time we set a few things straight before we leave."
Sonia paused for a brief moment.
Fred had mentioned earlier that she would be discharged soon. It seemed that "soon" had turned out to be today.
Realizing that, she gave a gentle nod.
