Chapter 19: Threats from Two Directions
The phone screen on the teak desk vibrated, breaking the icy silence of Julian's study. The name displayed was not one he wanted to see after a night that had nearly claimed Scarlett's life.
Victoria Caldwell.
Julian slid the green icon with a stiff motion. He did not need to hear the voice on the other end to know his grandmother had already heard everything. In the Caldwell family, secrets had a shorter shelf life than fresh milk.
"You let a rat into your own house, Julian?" Victoria's voice was calm, yet sharp enough to slice through steel. "I gave my blessing to this marriage not so you could turn my granddaughter-in-law into an easy target on your own balcony."
Julian pinched the bridge of his nose, his gaze fixed on the CCTV footage paused on the masked figure from the night before. "Security is being tightened, Grandma. Jonathan is tracking him. That wasn't just some amateur intruder."
