Zachary Redgrave crossed his legs, one arm draped over the back of his chair, and gave Hannah Hale a lazy, dismissive look. "Don't be ungrateful. I'm only looking out for you because I pity your miserable fate of having to marry my uncle."
"Oh, so I suppose I should be thanking you profusely?"
Zachary Redgrave stroked his chin, feigning deep thought. "Well, I've had my eye on a sports car recently, but my uncle froze all my bank cards. So how about, as a token of your gratitude, you buy it for me? What do you say?"
"Why don't you just go rob a bank? A sports car... You've really got some nerve."
Zachary Redgrave shrugged, unfazed. "Don't they say you should repay a favor a hundredfold? I'm just asking you to buy me a sports car. What's with the big reaction?"
Under the table, Hannah Hale gave the jerk a swift kick. "Well, there's another saying: 'A great kindness requires no thanks.' And you know what? You kind of look like a sports car. I'm going to bed."
