Chapter 34 - The Awakening Beneath The City

The single drop of Kael's blood spread through the fractured street like liquid fire.

It slipped into ancient grooves carved beneath the asphalt centuries ago, igniting one rune after another. The light traveled far beyond the battlefield, racing beneath buildings, rivers, and mountains until the entire city was covered by an enormous hidden formation.

The earth trembled.

At first, people thought it was another attack.

Then they realized the tremors had a rhythm.

It sounded almost like a heartbeat.

Ari looked down as golden symbols erupted beneath his feet.

"What is this?"

Kael lowered his hand to the wound on his chest. The injury was already closing, but his eyes remained fixed on the ground below.

"A seal."

Leon slowly turned toward him.

"The Eternal Seal..."

Kael nodded.

"I hoped it would never open again."

Another violent tremor shook the city.

Cracks spread through the streets, not from destruction but from immense pressure rising from below. Every ancient rune glowed brighter, forcing the Judge to retreat several hundred meters into the sky.

For the first time since its arrival, the Judge stopped attacking.

It was watching.

Its emotionless voice echoed across the isolated city.

"Containment protocol compromised."

"Ancient entity detected."

"Threat level... unknown."

Lune's golden eyes widened.

"It doesn't know what's down there."

Kael's expression remained calm, but Ari noticed something he had never seen before.

Concern.

Real concern.

"Everyone," Kael said quietly, "fall back."

No one argued.

If Kael was worried, then whatever lay beneath them was something beyond ordinary understanding.

The ground split apart.

A massive circle nearly two kilometers wide collapsed inward, revealing an enormous stone gate buried beneath the city. The gate towered over the surrounding buildings, covered in chains thicker than skyscrapers and engraved with countless glowing seals.

Each chain snapped one by one.

The sound echoed like thunder.

Boom.

Another chain broke.

Boom.

Then another.

Every broken chain released a wave of ancient energy that rolled across the city.

Hunters everywhere instinctively lowered their weapons.

Monsters emerging from nearby rifts fled in terror.

Even the Judge remained perfectly still.

A deep voice echoed from behind the gate.

"So..."

"...the outside world still exists."

The gate slowly opened.

Darkness poured from the opening, not like smoke, but like a living ocean swallowing the light around it.

Two enormous golden eyes appeared within the darkness.

They blinked once.

The pressure that followed forced even the clouds apart.

A colossal figure stepped forward.

He was over thirty meters tall, clad in weathered black armor etched with symbols older than civilization. Long silver hair flowed behind him, and a massive sword rested across his back. His face was stern, marked by countless scars that had long since healed.

Despite his size, his eyes were calm.

Ancient.

Wise.

He looked around the ruined city before his gaze settled on Kael.

For several long seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then the giant smiled.

"So you've grown older."

Kael let out a slow breath.

"You still talk too much."

The giant laughed.

The sound rolled across the city like distant thunder.

"It's good to see you too, old friend."

Ari stared in disbelief.

"Friend?"

Leon looked equally stunned.

"Impossible..."

Kael had never spoken about anyone from his past with familiarity.

The giant slowly shrank.

His enormous body condensed until he stood just slightly taller than Kael.

The black armor remained, along with the massive sword.

He walked forward and stopped a few meters away.

"I thought you'd never release the seal."

"I didn't."

Kael glanced briefly at the dried blood on the ground.

"My blood fulfilled the condition."

The man nodded thoughtfully.

"So the Judge managed to wound you."

His eyes shifted upward toward the cosmic being hovering above the city.

"Interesting."

The Judge's crown began rotating faster.

Its voice remained calm.

"Identity confirmed."

"Designation: Guardian Zero."

"Status: Imprisoned."

The armored man's smile disappeared.

"I hated that title."

He looked directly at the Judge.

"And I hate being reminded of it."

Without warning, the Judge unleashed a beam of concentrated starlight.

The attack crossed the distance instantly.

The armored man didn't move.

He simply raised one finger.

The beam stopped against his fingertip.

He flicked it aside.

The beam curved harmlessly into the sky, disappearing beyond the atmosphere.

Silence consumed the battlefield.

Ari blinked several times.

"...Did he just..."

Leon finished the sentence.

"...deflect the Judge with one finger?"

The man stretched his shoulders.

"I've been asleep for centuries."

He looked at Kael.

"Things have become noisy."

Kael folded his arms.

"They usually do when you're involved."

The man chuckled before turning toward Ari, Mika, and Lune.

His ancient eyes softened.

"So these are the children."

Kael corrected him immediately.

"My family."

The man nodded respectfully.

"I see."

He studied each of them for a moment.

"A barrier that protects instead of dominates."

He looked at Ari.

"Space that bends without breaking."

His eyes moved to Mika.

"And harmony that binds what should never meet."

Finally, he looked at Lune.

His expression grew thoughtful.

"Remarkable."

Lune tilted her head.

"What?"

"You hear the language of reality itself."

Before she could respond, the Judge interrupted.

"Conversation terminated."

The crimson Rift expanded once more.

This time, it revealed hundreds of glowing silhouettes waiting beyond its edge.

Not one Judge.

Not ten.

Hundreds.

The armored man sighed.

"I suppose introductions will have to wait."

Kael drew his restored black blade.

"I was thinking the same thing."

The two men stood side by side.

Ancient comrades.

Legends from an age no history book remembered.

Above them, an army of Judges prepared to descend.

For the first time since the battle began, Kael was no longer standing alone.

And somewhere beyond the Rift, the seven rulers watching from their chamber of living stars exchanged uneasy glances.

The awakening they had feared had finally come to pass.
