CHAPTER 32: THANKSGIVING TENSIONS
POV: Ivyn Mikaelson
Second Thanksgiving in the Valley. Invitation comes from Amanda over Daniel's objections.
Everyone knows it's test rather than celebration.
The LaRusso house smells like rosemary and promises. Turkey in the oven. Table set formally. Everything perfect except the underlying tension.
Daniel's jaw is tight. Amanda's smile strained. Sam caught between. Anthony watching with teenage entertainment.
We sit. Say grace. Begin eating in uncomfortable silence.
Daniel breaks it. "How's training going, Ivyn?"
The question loaded. Accusatory.
"Good. Johnny's evolved the philosophy. More balanced now."
"Balanced Cobra Kai. That's an oxymoron."
Sam touches my hand under the table. "Don't engage."
But Daniel continues. "You're training my daughter's boyfriend to be aggressive. To strike first and ask questions later. That's not the person I want influencing Sam."
My fork clatters against plate. Patience exhausted.
"I'm not being trained by you or Johnny. I'm learning from both and choosing what serves me." Voice sharp. Controlled. "Sam's not being influenced. She's making her own choices, including choosing me despite your disapproval."
"Daniel—" Amanda starts.
"No. He needs to hear this." Daniel leans forward. "You chose Cobra Kai. You chose that philosophy. And you're bringing that into my family."
"I chose to support a man rebuilding his life. To fight against Kreese's corruption. To help students who needed guidance." Hands clenched. Knuckles white. "You let high school define your entire life. That's not my problem. That's yours."
Sam gasps. Amanda's eyes widen. Anthony grins.
Daniel stands. Napkin thrown on table. "I won't sit here and be disrespected in my own home."
He leaves. Silence crushing.
Amanda excuses herself. Follows him.
Sam's crying quietly. "I'm sorry. He's been building to this for weeks."
"Not your fault."
Anthony speaks. First time all night. "That was awesome. Dad never gets called on his shit."
"Anthony!" Sam glares.
He shrugs. Continues eating.
[RELATIONSHIP UPDATE: DANIEL LARUSSO]
[Status: Hostile → Active Opposition]
[Bridge building: Failed]
[Family integration: Compromised]
Amanda finds me on the patio. Cold November air. Stars visible despite light pollution.
"He's not wrong to worry. But he's wrong to blame you."
"I escalated. Shouldn't have said that about high school."
"Maybe he needed to hear it." She sits beside me. "You've been good to Sam. Respectful to us. Dealing with a karate war you didn't start."
"Why do I stay with Cobra Kai?" The question she's asking without asking.
"Yeah."
"Because Johnny needs people who'll keep him from becoming Kreese. If everyone good abandons him, the dojo becomes exactly what Daniel fears."
Amanda nods slowly. "That's mature reasoning. But don't sacrifice yourself trying to save everyone else."
The advice hits deeper than intended. "Too late. I've been sacrificing myself since I arrived in this world."
"I'll try."
"That's all I ask." She pats my shoulder. Maternal. Warm. "Give Daniel time. He'll come around. Eventually."
[RELATIONSHIP UPDATE: AMANDA LARUSSO]

Robby arrives during dessert. Invited by Daniel. Ongoing mentorship.
The dynamics become impossibly complex.
Daniel treating Robby like surrogate son while rejecting me. Johnny's actual son receiving more care from Daniel than from his father. Sam caught between boyfriend and father-figure's protégé.
We sit for pie. Five of us. Tension visible in every movement.
Robby eventually excuses himself. I follow.
Outside. Cold air. Awkward.
"This is too weird," he says. Laughing slightly. "Your girlfriend's dad likes me more than he likes you. But I'm related to your sensei. It's a mess."
I laugh too. Despite everything. "Complete disaster of overlapping relationships."
"Yeah." He pauses. "For what it's worth, you were right in there. Daniel does let the past define him too much."
"Don't tell him I said that."
"Never."
We shake hands. The absurdity of the situation binding us in shared understanding.

[Shared outsider status]
[Mutual understanding of complicated dynamics]
Drive home alone. Sam texting apologies. Daniel's disappointment heavy on her.
"I'm sorry about tonight."
"Not your fault."
"Still. You deserved better."
"We'll figure it out."
But I'm not sure we will. Not with Daniel's active opposition. Not with the school fight approaching. Not with everything falling apart despite my best efforts.

In my apartment, I review stats one more time.

Relationships: Strained across the board.

I complete my Daily Quest. Train defensive techniques. Fall asleep exhausted.
Dream of Miguel falling. Of failing to save him. Of watching everyone I care about suffer because I wasn't strong enough, fast enough, prepared enough.
Wake gasping at 3 AM. Can't go back to sleep.
So I train. In darkness. In silence. In desperation.
Because in two to four weeks, everything explodes.
And all I can do is try to be ready.
Try to save everyone.
Or die trying.
