"Don't embarrass me this time."
Bai Zi Ting's voice was firm. She was tired of taking care of a troubled child like Bai Ching Fei who was very different from Bai Yuan Jie, her second child who was so obedient to her every command. Bai Yuan Jie also inherited her husband Bai Yu Guan's intelligence. If compared between Bai Ching Fei and Bai Yuan Jie, it was like heaven and earth.
Bai Ching Fei or his nick name Ah Fei, just kept quiet. Watching the car driven by his mother drive away leaving him alone in the school grounds. His heart started beating fast and his whole body started to be wet with cold sweat. His steps were heavily regulated.
Ah Fei sat down while looking around. Everyone looked cheerful except for one. He just sat there with his eyes watching the registration desk. Maybe he was also nervous like him.
"Are you nervous? I really am."
He asked tempting to talk. The student turned around. His lips carved a warm smile. Making Ah Fei feel safe with him.
"Don't worry, our seniors are all kind-hearted."
His voice was soft.
"Oh...good..."
Now he could breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe this school session wouldn't end like before.
"Oh. I'm Bai Ching Fei. Snd you?"
Ah Fei introduced himself while extending a greeting. His smile was carved sweetly.
"Song Lu Ya."
He answered while accepting Ah Fei's greeting. Song Lu Ya's lips carved a smile that warmed Ah Fei's heart. He began to forget about his nervousness.
"You can call me Ching Fei or Ah Fei. And you?"
"Lulu."
"Okay."
It was their turn to line up. Ah Fei was relieved as soon as he saw the friendly faces of their seniors. Maybe his luck would really be different this time.
"Eh Lulu, aren't you living in a dorm?"
Ah Fei asked as soon as their business was done. Fear began to enter his soul. Lulu shook his head. Adding to the fear in Ah Fei's heart.
"Oh, I thought we could share a room..."
He said sadly. In his wild mind, he began to imagine an unpleasant experience.
"Don't worry. If you are bullied, you tell me and I will come to help you."
Lulu words giving Ah Fei a ray of hope. His eyes that had been withered shone again.
"Promise?"
He said full of hope.
"Promise."
Lulu replied, sealing a promise between them. A promise that somewhat relieved Ah Fei's heart.
Ah Fei stood upright in front of the door of his room. His heart was beating fast. Worried about who would be his roommate.
With trepidation, Ah Fei opened the door to his room. It was empty. He was told that he would be sharing a room with a senior since there were no empty rooms and that senior had never had a roommate. Thinking about it, Ah Fei became even more scared. To him, there must be a reason why his senior had never had a roommate.
"What if my roommate was a mafia member?"
Ah Fei's mind began to wander. Inviting his own fear.
"No way...ghost...."
Ah Fei quickly took out his cell phone. His trembling fingers started typing something. But his intention was canceled.
"I don't want to bother Lulu because of this. He'll get bored and leave me later."
Ah Fei threw his cell phone on the bed.
"I better go to bed early before the ghost comes back."
He quickly took out a towel from his luggage and without thinking for a long time, he ran to the bathroom. He took a shower as fast as he could and immediately pulled the blanket to sleep. He didn't even think about packing all his things. He wasn't kidding. "I'll just pack my things tomorrow. Besides, I'm not going to the other side. So there's no way he'll be angry."
*****
"Lulu..."
Ah Fei whined as he clung to Lulu's body like a koala. He glad he was safe the first night, he didn't know if he'd still be safe for the second night and beyond.
"Why? Is your roommate okay?"
Lulu asked as he tried to push Ah Fei's body that was clinging like a koala away from him. Ah Fei shook his head quickly.
"I want to go back with you. I don't want to stay in the dorm alone..."
He whined again.
"Why? Not okay?"
Lulu asked. He started to feel sorry for his friend. Silence. Ah Fei wasn't sure why either. He had never seen his roommate. And there was no way he could tell Lulu that he was afraid of ghosts.
Ah Fei slowly released his embrace on Lulu.
"I just feel lonely. My roommate didn't come back to the dorm last night."
He said while lowering his head in embarrassment. Hearing that, Lulu let out an inward sigh.
"I thought you were bullied earlier. Don't make me worry like this again."
Lulu said pretending to be angry.
"Sorry. But I like it when you worry like this...hahaha..."
Ah Fei said as he walked to the cafeteria. His walking cheerfully while Lulu who just following him have no choice but to accept himself to having a friend like Ah Fei.
Arriving at the cafeteria, their eyes and mouths were wide open. All the food had been finished and swept up by other students. There wasn't a single thing left.
"What do we had to eat...?"
Ah Fei asked as he leaned his body against Lulu. His stomach was rumbling and there was nothing left to eat. Lulu also lost all hope. His stomach was also crying with hunger. "Starting tomorrow, I'll cook my own lunch for school." Lulu put on a determined face.
"You two, come here."
Suddenly a voice called. They both turned slowly. Jiang Hai was seen waving at them. Mu Zhe was also there. Just looking at them with a friendly smile.
"Are they calling us?"
Ah Fei asked in a lower tone as he glanced at Lulu and around them. Who knew there was someone else behind them.
"Yes, you two. Lulu and...?"
Call Mu Zhe.
"Ah Fei."
Ah Fei replied as he pulled Lulu with him to come to Jiang Hai and Mu Zhe. He immediately ignored Lulu who was still in shocked.
"What's wrong, seniors..."
Ah Fei asked, between hesitation and embarrassment. Hesitancy as if their call was to bully and embarrassment because he didn't know their two seniors at all.
"Ah Fei, Lulu. You two haven't eaten yet, right?"
Jiang Hai asked in a friendly tone. They quickly nodded like woodpeckers. They were indeed hungry that day.
"Sit down. Let's eat together."
Jiang Hai invited the both of them to eat together.
"But..."
Lulu said hesitantly. He saw that there were only two sets of food on the table. How could it be enough for the four of them.
"It's okay. After school we'll continue eating at Chen's family restaurant. Let's eat together. At least you two won't be hungry for now."
Jiang Hai answered. Mu Zhe just nodded while handing his food to Lulu and Jiang Hai gave his food to Ah Fei. In embarrassment, they accepted their senior's invitation.
"Later in the evening, let me pay the foods for you two."
Lulu said with a serious face. Mu Zhe and Jiang Hai looked at each other. And with a hidden smile, they just nodded.
