The silence that settled in the car was heavy, pressing in from all sides.
I chewed on my bottom lip, my thoughts drifting between his demands and my own refusal to give in.
Still, I couldn't help but wonder if the only reason he had pursued me this far was because of the children.
Do you want him to make it about you?
Of course not. He hated me.
From the look on his face, if he had the chance to wrap his hands around my throat to strangle me, he probably would have already done it. The only reason he hadn't was likely because I was the mother of his children.
"Why didn't you sign the divorce papers?" I asked quietly.
"That doesn't matter now," he dismissed, for what felt like the third time.
I shot him a glare, sitting up straighter. "It does matter. Because," I gestured between us, "we're still legally married. I'm still considered your wife. I can't even move on with my life like this."
