Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: You Want to Pursue Him?

When Serena Sutton found Brandy Quinn's hospital bed, she heard Brandy excitedly say, "I just saw an unbelievably handsome doctor."

"His looks could crush any campus heartthrob at our school at any moment."

"It's a pity he's not my attending doctor, so I couldn't talk to him."

Hearing this, Serena opened the lid of the thermos calmly; she certainly knew who Brandy was talking about.

"His name is Caleb Lockwood."

"Huh?" Brandy looked at her blankly, and after a few seconds, she finally reacted, "The one you said you saw in the emergency room yesterday, was also him?"

"Wow, Serena, you've run into him twice. Did you get his contact information?"

Serena shook her head, resting her face in her hands, frowning in slight distress.

"I've never pursued anyone, I'm inexperienced."

Her tone was a bit weak, her pretty brows knitted together, and she pouted slightly.

Brandy, having been through it with two relationships, even if both ended in cheating, still had some advice to give.

"Girl, right now, the urgent thing to do is to ask him if he has a girlfriend. If he does, retreat before it's too late and promptly withdraw. If not, you need to find out his orientation. Realistically, a guy this handsome, this excellent, probably has a girlfriend."

Serena: "..." Blinked her eyes, sounded about right.

"Then I'll go and find out now!" She had to ask quickly; otherwise, if someone else got ahead, she'd regret it to death.

Brandy watched her figure and hastily shouted, "You're going the wrong way; the doctor's office isn't that way."

At this moment, Silas Shaw was sitting in the office writing a patient's progress notes. Besides him, there were two young doctors writing medical records and giving orders. The room was very quiet, almost only the sound of doctors rapidly typing on keyboards could be heard.

Serena stood at the doctor's office door, sticking her head in to look around.

Caleb Lockwood wasn't there? Just as well.

She took a deep breath, knocked on the door, and went inside.

Silas Shaw heard the knock, looked up suddenly, and saw a pretty young girl with a bun on her head, delicate features, fair and tender skin, petite and small, eyes filled with liveliness.

He was momentarily stunned and couldn't help but ask, "Anything I can do for you?"

Serena walked over to Silas's desk and whispered, "Hi, is Dr. Lockwood not here?"

Seeing her action and hearing her words, Silas understood everything.

Probably another girl wanting to chase Caleb Lockwood, although pretty, she seemed quite young, inexperienced with life's hardships. Clearly unaware she was walking into The Gauntlet.

"He's in the operating room."

Silas spoke slowly, picking up a cup from the desk and taking a sip.

"What do you need him for? If you're a patient's family member, just tell me, and I'll pass it on for you later."

This question made Serena a bit flustered; she pressed her lips together and shook her head.

"I just wanted to ask if Dr. Caleb Lockwood has a girlfriend yet? Is he married?" Serena asked straightforwardly and directly.

Though Serena's voice wasn't loud, the other doctors in the office all heard it.

Being young themselves, they naturally understood, and the two young doctors couldn't help but glance at Serena.

This girl had commendable courage, unlike previous ones who were too shy to ask directly — pretty good.

Silas leaned back in his chair, tilting his head to observe Serena, his amber eyes filled with an amused smile: "No, he doesn't. You want to pursue him, huh?"

Serena felt that there was nothing to hide about this kind of thing; after all, there was nothing embarrassing about it.

So she candidly responded, "Yeah."

The smile on Silas's face became even more pronounced; this young girl was really interesting.

"Hey, you..." Silas was just about to ask for the girl's name when he saw a patient's family member walk in.

Not wanting to disturb others, Serena nodded at Silas, "Thank you."

Silas looked at her retreating figure and shook his head with a light laugh.

This young girl, so pretty at such a young age, how did she get her eyes on Caleb Lockwood?

With Caleb's personality, only a fairy could handle him.

After finding out that Caleb Lockwood was neither married nor had a girlfriend, Serena became elated.

Last night's dream had scared her terribly. Now she was much more at ease, and the next step was to get his contact information.

And the step after that was... hee hee hee, just thinking about it made Serena so happy that she couldn't hold back her laughter, looking up and smiling at the ceiling. The cold white hospital lights on her face became much softer.

When Caleb Lockwood returned from the operating room, Silas watched him with a mischievous grin and a gossiping gleam in his eyes.

"Dr. Lockwood, you're indeed the face and talent of our hospital."

Hearing this, Caleb didn't respond, ignoring him and sitting down quietly at his desk, opening his computer.

Silas walked over, leaned on the desk with both hands, and said, "Dr. Lockwood, someone came looking for you today."

Caleb remained silent, his long fingers tapping on the keyboard, uninterested in engaging.

"Why are you so boring? Aren't you curious who it was? And after all, the young girl has a crush on you." Silas complained, then lowered his voice, "Let me tell you, this time the girl was particularly beautiful; she seemed to have a nice personality too. She'll surely come back to find you. You have to seize this opportunity, because..."

"Silas Shaw."

Caleb suddenly spoke, interrupting him.

He slightly raised his gaze, expressionless, "Don't forget to cover my clinic on Tuesday."

Finishing that, he stood up, picking up the thermos on the desk, and went to the break room to fill it with water.

Silas: "..." Last week, due to an urgent matter, he had asked Caleb to switch clinic days, and Caleb remembered that clearly?

Sheesh~ What a grump.

In the evening, Caleb Lockwood returned to his apartment.

After changing his shoes, he went straight to the bathroom. Feeling a bit fatigued, he took a hot shower.

After showering, he headed to the kitchen.

On the kitchen wall was a piece of paper clearly listing the daily energy, protein, and vitamin intake he needed.

Based on this, a simple menu was devised.

Caleb opened the fridge, took out the ingredients, and started cooking in an orderly manner.

He never ate out; even during work, he brought his own lunch. He'd heat it in the doctor's lounge microwave, and it would be ready to eat.

After dinner, Caleb returned to his room, opened his computer, and made some edits to a paper he had been writing.

His day seemed to go just like this, plain and uneventful.

Not quite, there was one more thing.

Caleb opened the only music app on his phone and searched for "Left Hand Moon" guqin solo.

He pressed play.

The clear, lingering guqin melody, pure and beautiful, carried a comforting magic.

He lay on the bed casually, feeling his fatigue gradually dissipate.

Caleb closed his eyes, as if seeing a plain little face.

Smiling sweetly and innocently.
