Chapter 268 - Loki: "I'm harmless? Who do you think you're looking down on? I just killed tens of thousands!"

For everyone else, these words were rather chilling.

For Tony Stark, in particular, with his pride and arrogance, it was almost unbearable.

To him, every choice he'd made had stemmed from his own will. How could it now be revealed that he was merely following a script written by others?

Now, someone was telling him about a high-and-mighty organization—the Time Variance Authority—that maintained the order of the Timeline, all without telling them they were being treated like ignorant mortals.

Though, on the grand scale of the Timeline, they were indeed just mortals.

Still, this feeling made him incredibly, incredibly uncomfortable.

"I'll live my life as I see fit!" Loki snarled, his voice low and furious. The idea that his fate had been predetermined by others was an absolute joke to him, a god who believed he was destined to become king.

"Alright, whatever you say. Come sit down!" Agent Mobius didn't bother arguing with him; it was pointless.

Everyone brought here was unaware of Destiny's Script. They all deluded themselves into thinking their own choices had led to their current fate, whether good or bad.

But they didn't know that they might have actually had other choices.

However, the timelines born from those other choices had long been erased by the Time Variance Authority on the Sacred Timeline.

So they never knew that they had actually had millions of different choices.

The millions of possibilities the Ancient One had seen, ultimately converging into a single absolute temporal node.

They seemed to have choices, but in reality, they had none.

That was the truth of the Timeline.

Agent Mobius, being well-versed in such matters, was completely accustomed to handling Loki's kind and didn't take it to heart.

However, just as Loki was about to make a move and attempt to escape...

Agent Mobius took out a controller and instantly rewound Loki back to his original position.

The crowd had witnessed this scene before when Loki first entered the Time Variance Authority.

They had even seen it when Doctor Strange used magic related to the Time Stone, that awe-inspiring spectacle of time rewinding was impossible to forget after one viewing.

But the TVA's method was completely different. There were no grand, theatrical effects—it was deceptively simple. The collar clearly allowed them to precisely control an individual's time, rewinding them instantly.

This understated display was even more astonishing. It demonstrated that the TVA's methods far surpassed Doctor Strange's use of the Time Stone.

They could accelerate your time, reverse it, or freeze it entirely. With you completely in their hands, how could you possibly fight them?

Everyone gasped in unison, contributing another tiny bit to global warming.

Though it wasn't the first time I'd seen this, every time I watched it, my scalp tingled.

Even though Loki later came across as a mere clown, he was still a god. Yet here he was, being toyed with and manipulated like a puppet by Agent Mobius, who appeared to be just an ordinary human.

If some powerful expert within the Time Variance Authority had subdued Loki, that would have been logical. After all, S.H.I.E.L.D. had its own share of formidable figures, like the Hulk, Tony Stark in his armor, or even Thor himself taking down his troublesome brother.

But here, they clearly allowed an ordinary human to effortlessly control Loki's time, making him do whatever they pleased.

The most terrifying part was their ability to easily control Loki's life and death.

True experts were rare, but ordinary employees were numerous. Yet if every ordinary employee could achieve this level of control, the Time Variance Authority would be truly terrifying.

The fact that a mere bureaucrat could so effortlessly control a god was a testament to the Time Variance Authority's immense power.

"I told you, the flow of time is different here. Come, have a seat!" Agent Mobius said, completely unfazed by Loki's attempt to escape. "Let's get down to business. Sit!"

Clearly, they could manipulate the flow of time at will.

After Loki sat down, crossing his arms in a defensive posture, Mobius smiled and said, "That look of yours could kill!"

"What do you want from me?" Loki asked, his impatience evident but tempered by the knowledge that he was now in a vulnerable position.

As the Chinese proverb goes, "The wise know when to bend."

"Just cooperate for now!" Mobius said bluntly.

"I'm not good at this!" Loki replied coldly.

"Really? But aren't you trying to butter us up while plotting your betrayal?" Mobius said with an exasperated tone. "Spare me!"

Everyone couldn't help but laugh at this, thinking, "You really know how to read people."

Thor, in particular, nodded in strong agreement. He'd been on the receiving end of such trickery countless times throughout his life.

Loki truly lived up to his title as the God of Mischief, the very embodiment of honeyed words and a venomous heart.

"You don't understand me at all!" Loki sneered. This mortal might have no combat prowess, but his tongue was truly venomous.

"Perhaps I want to understand you," Agent Mobius replied calmly. "I'm responsible for apprehending dangerous time criminals."

"Like me?" Loki asked, clearly assuming Mobius was referring to himself.

Though it felt strange to take pride in this, he couldn't help but feel a flicker of satisfaction. The Time Variance Authority must recognize his power if they labeled him "dangerous."

After swallowing a mouthful of his drink, Mobius said, "No, *exceptionally* dangerous time criminals. Not you. You're just a harmless little kitten!"

Hearing this, Loki nearly exploded with rage. *What a way to kill with a single blow!* *What a way to deal minimal damage but maximum insult!*

This was it.

For anyone else, being called "a good person, not dangerous" might be a high compliment. But for Loki, it was equivalent to telling everyone he was utterly pathetic.

Though Loki *wanted* the Time Variance Authority to underestimate him so he could escape, this insult was too brutal. He might not be a particularly dangerous time criminal, but he certainly wasn't harmless.

He'd just caused tens of thousands of casualties on Earth. *Harmless?*

*If I were harmless, why would you even catch me?*

*So infuriating!*

"I have many questions for you," Agent Mobius said. "If you answer them all truthfully, perhaps I can give you what you want."

"You want to leave here, right? Let's start there. If you went back, what would you do?" Agent Mobius asked.

"Finish what I didn't finish!" Loki replied.

"What was that?"

"Become king!"

"You want to be king?" Agent Mobius asked.

"I don't *want* to be king," Loki declared. "It's my birthright! I was born to rule!"

His lineage was noble, the son of a Frost Giant leader and later adopted by Odin—a double blessing.

For him, becoming king wasn't a choice, but a destiny etched in the stars, or so he had always believed.

A man destined to be king.

"I understand that," Agent Mobius said, "but what king are you talking about?"

Loki chuckled, finding the question absurd. *No one in this universe will ever understand me,* he thought.

He scoffed. "You wouldn't get it."

"Try me," Mobius said calmly.

"Midgard!" Loki answered straightforwardly.

"That's Earth," Mobius said, his tone light. "So you'd be king of Midgard, and then what? Live happily ever after?"

"Asgard, the Nine Realms, the entire universe!" Loki declared, his ambition blazing. His plans weren't limited to Earth or the Nine Realms—they spanned the cosmos.

"The universe? The universe is vast. What a title!" Agent Mobius said with a hint of amusement. "Loki, King of the Universe!"

The more he learned about this universe and the mysteries of this timeline, the more he found Loki's behavior truly laughable.

It was like the son of a tribal chief in modern society claiming he wouldn't just become chief, but also the "ball-chief"—a ridiculous notion.

"Try mocking me again, and see what happens," Loki said, his voice tinged with anger. He wasn't stupid; he could clearly hear the sarcasm.

"I'm not mocking you, I swear. I'm a real fan, I am. And what I don't understand is, with all your power, why would you only want to be a king?" Agent Mobius explained.

Only then did Loki reveal his true motivation: "I'll make their lives easier!"

He continued, "The first and most harmful lie in history is freedom!"

No one could have predicted the unprecedented flag Loki was planting here. He now believed freedom was history's first lie, yet in the end, he would willingly sit on the golden toilet—no, scratch that, wrong show—he would willingly guard the infinite timelines for the freedom of countless lives.
