MHGA Chapter 386 – The Hunters' Coordinated Operation
After being forced to accept Kairo Retsu's proposal of cooperation, Kyoko Sakura didn't expect that the first "suggestion" he gave her would be such a headache.
Kairo Retsu… told Kyoko Sakura to go to school.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of all the enrollment paperwork and stuff. We've got connections!" Kairo said while rubbing his nose.
By "connections," he meant getting the Military Uniform Princess to pull the same strings she did to get Hibiki and the others enrolled—problem solved.
"Hah?" Kyoko's expression was one of disbelief. "You want me to go to school?"
"A student's duty is to study properly, kola!" Kairo declared with full confidence. "If you really don't want to go to school, I'll find you a private tutor. Worst case, I'll teach you myself."
Kairo stood with hands on his hips, totally self-assured. "Ever heard of 'winning at the starting line'? I'll get you some practice booklets later, you can work on a few sets—"
"No magical girl does stuff like that!"
"There are magical girls in other worlds who hold down full-time jobs, okay?! Ever seen a thirty-something magical girl corporate slave?!"
Kyoko's feeble resistance was ultimately suppressed.
Personally suppressed by Homura Akemi—who accepted Kairo Retsu's bribe in the form of a pre-ordered Madoka Kaname figure.
Even Homura didn't know how Kairo's phone could still access the internet from his own world and open that Online Shop… but he did place an order for a cherry blossom kimono version of Madoka right in front of her.
As for how the network connection worked? Ask a Felyne—hunters are just trying to live their lives.
When Kyoko Sakura finally found herself standing awkwardly in Madoka's class, all the students below were whispering among themselves: wasn't this class getting way too many transfer students this year…?
After getting Kyoko enrolled with help from the Military Uniform Princess, Kairo Retsu had finally achieved his goal—cramming all the magical girls and newcomers into the school.
After privately messaging the other hunters, Kairo headed back to the Gathering Hub.
He wore an exhausted expression and slumped over the cafeteria table the moment he arrived, letting out a long, weary sigh.
"Ughhh—" Kairo sprawled himself across the tabletop.
These past few days, he had been running around nonstop in Madoka's world. He barely even had time to rest.
But the hunters who had already received his message quickly set aside what they were doing and hurried to meet him in the cafeteria.
"Commander! Have you finished everything over there?!" The first to arrive was Tanjiro Kamado, who usually spent all his time training at the training grounds.
Still dripping with post-training sweat, Tanjiro had sprinted over without delay.
"Tanjiro! No wonder you're the pride of our Gathering Hub—you're seriously dedicated!" Kairo gave him a thumbs up. "How's your practice with Sun Breathing coming along?"
"Hmm… I still can't compare to Yoriichi-san," Tanjiro said while shaking his head. "To wield Sun Breathing freely, unconstrained by forms the way he did… with my talent, it's still a far-off dream."
He held his massive Great Sword in front of him. "But I'll keep working at it! One day, I'll reach the same level as Yoriichi-san!"
"Now that's the spirit. You might also want to chat with Joseph more—since he uses Ripple-based breathing. Might help you find a new angle…" Kairo scratched his head. "Wait, speaking of which, where is Joseph? Isn't he usually at the training grounds?"
"Joseph-san's been busy handling stuff in his own world lately, but he's been hanging around the blacksmith's shop when he's here at the Gathering Hub," Tanjiro explained patiently. "He's been searching for something."
"Searching? For what?" Kairo asked, just as Joseph's voice came from behind him.
"Obviously, for the Stone Mask Arrow. And DIO's coffin."
Kairo turned around and saw Joseph Joestar covered in dust—he looked like he'd just crawled out of a dungeon.
"Everyone's making progress—I can't afford to fall behind either," Joseph said, coughing twice before casually lifting his right hand and waving it in front of Kairo.
A glimmering red glow immediately caught Kairo's attention—embedded in Joseph's wristguard was the Aja Red Stone.
"How'd you know I made Hunter-exclusive charms using the Aja Red Stone?" Joseph asked, barely suppressing a smug grin. "It's just optimized for Ripple Breathing—it can amplify my Ripple output dozens or even hundreds of times. Learned that Ripple Laser trick from Kars, too. Super handy."
"?" Kairo slowly blinked and gave him a question mark. "You didn't actually open it if it was never closed, huh?"
"I mean, come on—everyone's grinding. I've got no excuse to slack!" Joseph declared proudly. "Once I find the Stone Mask Arrow, I'll show you what real power looks like—Hermit Purple Requiem!"
"byd… where is everyone else?" Kairo glanced around. "No way you two are the only ones going all out. Everyone's gotten hyper-motivated, huh?"
"Probably because we all took that loss against Shagaru Magala pretty hard," Naofumi Iwatani stepped into the cafeteria, picking up the thread. He was flanked by Rakuro Hizutome and Shirou Emiya.
"If our strength had been enough back then, Shagaru Magala wouldn't have escaped—and it wouldn't be threatening other places now."
"In my game world, there's no such thing as a boss escaping!" Rakuro looked pumped. "After I went back, I did some serious grinding in the Spirit Realm!"
"I've got my own reasons to keep training." Shirou had a similar look of determination. "At the very least, I need to be ready before true disaster arrives."
Right behind them came David and Himmel.
David looked even buffer than before—his clothes stretched taut across his bulging frame.
"I've wrapped up everything on my end. I missed the last fight—this time I'll make sure I contribute." David wore a confident smile. Himmel stayed quietly smiling by his side.
"Excellent! Looks like everyone's here!" Kairo glanced around the room and clapped the table as he stood up. "Then let's get started—while the newbies are still at school, we'll…"
"Neutralize every single factor in Mitakihara City that could interfere with the battle against Walpurgisnacht—today, no exceptions!"
"Oi!! Who said everyone's here?! What about me?! I'm coming too!!" Kazuma suddenly burst into the cafeteria, still covered in frog slime.
"You damn Commander, don't you dare pretend I don't exist!"
