MHGA Chapter 340 – Tempering the Sealed Blade

If she could just manage to snipe Sirius down—

Then her situation wouldn't become unmanageable.

If she could continue pushing her limits using the Frenzy Virus inherited from Gore Magala, and output all her strength, she might just be able to overpower Sirius in a head-on clash.

The hunters—and all these "creations" assisting Kairo Retsu—none of them had the ability to fly. At best, they could only influence her once or twice in the short term.

Altair ascended sharply, cutting off all routes of attack from Kairo and the others...

The three who just assaulted her no longer had the ability to keep up. Naofumi Iwatani and Tanjiro hadn't yet closed the distance... and that creation called Laios wasn't very strong in his own story—probably not a threat either.

Altair analyzed quickly.

Himmel might pose a threat, but he should still be battling the Gore Magala… unlikely to appear here.

As for the rest of the creations...

Altair judged in her thoughts—there weren't many who could truly impact the battlefield now.

As long as she could overpower Sirius in their clash—then the others were no threat at all.

The moment the repelling field around her faded, Altair unleashed her fully charged attack toward Sirius.

Sirius, face devoid of emotion, raised her weapon and conjured a magic circle to intercept Altair's blast. The two clashed, locked in a brief deadlock, as Altair continued to amplify her output.

She kept pouring in more and more power—cracks began to form in Sirius's magical defense.

But—

At that moment, something entirely unexpected occurred on a distant part of the battlefield.

Rui Kanoya and Selesia… piloting two mechs from completely different tech trees, had both grabbed hold of Gore Magala's massive frame. The two were forcibly grappling the monster into place, preventing it from charging toward Altair.

The beast thrashed wildly, desperate to move toward her—but the mechs, through overdrive, kept it restrained… buying Himmel a brief opening.

Himmel leapt nimbly onto the highest rooftop. In a single glance, he saw the clashing blasts between Sirius's cannon and Altair's magic.

"The last time I saw a sight like this… was with Frieren, when we destroyed the Demon King's army," Himmel murmured with a hint of sentiment. "Shame… I never learned magic. Too emotional a power."

With a calm breath, he measured the distance between himself and Altair. Then, drawing a spare Sword and gripping it in reverse, he prepared to throw.

"Raaahhh—!!"

With a roar, Himmel hurled the sword across the night sky.

Forged from the finest monster materials, the blade shot like a meteor. In a blink, it crossed the massive distance—impaling Altair's body with precision.

Altair whirled around in shock, fury flaring in her expression.

That a sword thrown from that far away could pierce her defenses—

This "Hero Himmel" truly was a formidable opponent. Not due to any mystical ability, but through sheer, pure skill with the blade.

She braced herself, trying to recover her strength and escape this encirclement.

She wasn't incapable of handling this kind of assault—what disrupted her rhythm… was Kairo Retsu. From that point on, she'd been under constant pressure.

If she could just break free, even for a moment, she'd be able to regain her momentum and retake control of the battle.

With the Approval Rating continuing to rise, Holopsicon's power was also steadily growing. At this rate, she wouldn't even need to defeat all her enemies—just hold out long enough. The "Birdcage" would soon break.

When that happened, the colliding powers would lead to the world's collapse—and her wish would finally come true.

That had been her thought process.

But just as Altair tried to pull away from the others to regain her footing—

She heard Kairo Retsu's voice say something that stopped her cold.

Because what he said… was something she couldn't ignore.

"Now... Show us Setsuna Shimazaki, the one who created you—Souta."

Altair froze in mid-retreat, locking eyes on Kairo Retsu.

Her voice, twisted by anger, trembled.

"What did you do to her?!"

"You wanted to fulfill Setsuna Shimazaki's final wish, didn't you? To exact vengeance on this world?"

Kairo pressed on. "Then let me see her for myself—your creator! Altair's creator!"

"Let me ask her—why she gave up her own life!"

Kairo's voice surged with anger. "Let me ask her—what did she think of the characters she gave birth to?!"

"Enough! Just how far are you all going to defile her small and fragile wish!" Altair's voice crackled with fury. "You—!"

"Then what do you expect me to do?!"

Kairo roared back. "A fragile-hearted girl… who created another fragile-hearted girl… and now wields monstrous power to act out her selfish tantrum!"

"She was a living, breathing person—and she threw her life away! Leaving behind this complete mess! What the hell do you want me to do?!"

Kairo bellowed. "Do you think I'm the kind of person who would maliciously hurt a powerless girl?!"

"Right now—everything is in place! Setsuna's story has earned the recognition of the world! Whether you accept it or not—she will appear in the next moment!"

"That's not her!" Altair shouted. "That's—!"

She could already guess the origins of this "created" Setsuna. But she didn't want to accept it. She couldn't accept that this being Souta had written into the story… was truly her Setsuna.

"No!"

Kairo declared firmly: "That will be the real Setsuna."

"Because I've already said it—now that the blade has been tempered and quenched, now that the iron curtain has fallen… everything is in place!"
