Chapter 16 - hospital

He goes back towards the fight landing in the center. *The battlefield is a scene of controlled chaos. Emergency crews and military personnel are swarming the area. You see the injured Heroes being loaded into waiting helicopters—Samantha, Black Sampson, and Invincible are all being moved onto stretchers. Tech crews are already setting up containment fields around the more dangerous debris.* *An official-looking man in a government uniform approaches him.*

*Cecil, the director of the US Government's Superhero Operations, approaches you with a serious expression. He's flanked by two armed soldiers holding back the press and curious onlookers.* "You're the last one standing." *He states the obvious. "Where's the alien?"*

"Handled."*Cecil nods, a hint of relief in his eyes. "Good. That's one less problem for us to deal with." He pauses, looking you up and down with a newfound respect. "You're stronger than I thought. Your stats have gone up significantly since the last time we scanned you."*

"You scanned me."*Cecil smirks, "Of course we did. You think we'd let an unknown quantity like you run around without keeping tabs on you?" He pulls out a tablet, showing you a graph with your power levels. "Your strength, speed, durability..."

"Yeah, I know they went up now. Are all the others going to be OK and what about the rest of the guardians? Did anyone else get hurt?"

*Cecil's expression turns grim.* "Invincible is in critical condition—she took the brunt of that thing's attacks. Monster girl is stable but needs surgery. Black Samson is... well, he's Black Samson. Tough as they come so he has a broken arm or shattered, depending on how you want to look at it and a few broken ribs and a huge concussion." *He hesitates.* "And the Guardians... they're mostly fine with a couple of burns here and there and small concussions."

"OK, that's fine."*Cecil watches him carefully. "That was some fight. I saw the last part—she just left? No big finish?" He raises an eyebrow. "You've got some kind of ability to talk down rampaging aliens now?"* *The nearby reporters are shouting questions, but the soldiers are holding them back.* "What happened back there? Really?"

"Nothing important tell me the minute invincible wakes up. I'm going to talk to Eve."He says0p.*Cecil nods, "Will do." As he takes off, flying towards Eve's treehouse, Cecil turns to the reporters.* "Alright, listen up! The alien has been neutralized by an unknown hero. No further comment. Move along!" *He signals to the soldiers to disperse the crowd as you disappear into the sky.*

*his thoughts race as he flies toward Eve's treehouse. The encounter with the alien battle beast left he with more than just physical changes—he can feel something shifting in your mind. A new awareness. A hunger for growth. He replayed the fight in his head, analyzing every move, every mistake. He realized he were holding back more than he thought—not just physically, but mentally.*

*he lands softly in front of Eve's treehouse, the familiar wooden structure nestled between the branches of an ancient oak. Before you can even knock, the door swings open to reveal Eve—her brown eyes filled with relief and worry.* "I saw the news. Are you okay?" *She pulls you into a tight hug immediately, pressing her cheek against your chest.*

"Yes, I'm OK but Marcy isn't doing too well." *Eve pulls back slightly, her eyes widening with concern.* "Marcy?" *She repeats.* "I saw them carrying her onto the helicopter... she looked broken." *She guides him inside the treehouse, closing the door.* "Cecil said she's in critical condition. Is she going to make it?"

"She's strong she'll be OK I can't use her or the others because for two reasons I'm kind of tired after the battle and I can't really heal and turn her in for someone else. I don't have that kind of medical experience to know what to do."*Eve nods slowly, though her brow remains furrowed with worry. The treehouse is cozy—warm lighting, bookshelves filled with comics and novels, a soft couch with blankets draped over it.*

*She looks up at you, really looking this time.* "What happened to you?" *Her hand reaches up, brushing your shoulder.* "You feel different. Bigger."

"I adapted during my fight with the land like alien getting stronger and faster, but I still couldn't beat her so I made a deal of sorts."*Eve's eyes widen slightly as she processes this.* "You... made a deal with a rampaging alien battle beast?" *She shakes her head slowly, a small smile playing on her lips.* "Only you would talk down something that nearly destroyed a city." *She sits on the couch, patting the space next to her.* "What's the deal?"

"I'll tell you when Marcy's awake."*She pouts slightly, then nods understandingly. She leans against his shoulder comfortingly.* "Stupid secret keeper. Fine, be mysterious. When Marcy wakes up, you'll spill the beans. In the meantime..." *She looks up at him with soft eyes.* "You need to rest."

"Thank you."*She nods, helping him lie down on the couch. She covers him with a warm blanket, her hands gentle. She sits next to him, her fingers combing through his hair softly. She knows him well enough to know that his exhausted, both physically and mentally.* "Sleep,"

*He fell into a deep, dreamless sleep on Eve's comfortable couch. Hours pass—the sun sets outside the treehouse windows, casting long shadows across the cozy interior. Eve sits by his side, reading a comic book silently to pass the time. Every so often, she checks his peaceful sleeping face.*

*As he sleeps, his body undergoes a subtle but significant transformation. The cursed energy within him, already potent and dangerous, begins to swell and expand. By the time dawn breaks outside the treehouse windows, his cursed energy reserves have increased fivefold—his power now surpassing anything he's ever known before.*

*When he opens his eyes, he finds Eve curled up beside him on the couch, her head resting on his chest. She must have fallen asleep while keeping watch. Her peaceful breathing fills the quiet morning air of the treehouse. He realizes he hasn't slept this deeply or comfortably in months.*

*Eve stirs gently, her eyes fluttering open as she becomes aware of her position on his chest. A soft smile spreads across her face when she sees him awake and looking down at her.* "Morning," *she murmurs sleepily, stretching slightly before sitting up properly.*

" good morning."*She stretches her arms above her head, letting out a soft yawn before looking back at him with a warm smile.* "Did you sleep okay?" *She brushes a stray hair out of her face.* "You were out cold. Honestly, you looked like you needed it." *She pauses.* "Any news yet? Did Cecil call about Marcy?"

"No, he hasn't called yet." just as he said that his phone started to ring he reached for the phone, glancing at the screen. It's Cecil.* "Speak of the devil," *Eve mutters softly, sitting up on the couch. he answers the call.*

*Cecil's voice comes through, tense but relieved.* "She's awake. And she's asking for you."

"OK ,Eve grab my hand." He says *Eve quickly grabs his hand as he speaks, her eyes widening in surprise but a smile on her lips. In an instant, they're standing outside Marcy's hospital room. The GDA agents outside recognize him immediately and step aside, allowing them entrance without question.* "Room 407,"

*Inside the high-tech medical room, Marcy—Invincible is lying in a reinforced hospital bed. Her costume is tattered and she's hooked up to several machines monitoring her vitals. Her skin is pale, and she has bandages wrapped around her torso and arm.* *She turns her head slowly as him and Eve enter.* "Hey..." *Her voice is raspy.*

"You've seen better days." He says, trying to lighten the mood.

*Marcy manages a weak smile at his attempt at humor.* "You could say that." *She coughs softly, wincing slightly.* "I've had better. At least I'm alive, right?" *Her gaze flickers between him and Eve, noticing their linked hands.*

"Do you want me to hold your hand too?"

*Marcy chuckles softly, then groans at the pain it causes her ribs.* "Yes, actually. I feel like I've been hit by a freight train." *She carefully extends her good hand towards him.* "Come here, you big softie."

*He and Eve both lean over the bed, carefully wrapping their arms around Marcy in a gentle, three-person hug. Marcy's free hand grips his shirt, pulling him closer.* "Don't... don't ever let me fight something like that again without backup," *she whispers, her voice cracking slightly.* "I thought I was done. I actually thought I was dead this time."

"But you didn't and I won't."*Marcy smiles weakly, her eyes tearing up as she looks at him.* "You always show up when it counts, don't you?" *She turns to Eve.* "Both of you do." *She squeezes Eve's hand gently before looking back at him.* "You two..."*Marcy smiles weakly, her eyes tearing up as she looks at him.* "You always show up when it counts, don't you?" *She turns to Eve.* "Both of you do." *She squeezes Eve's hand gently before looking back at him.* "You two..."

"Are the best boyfriend and girlfriend you could have."

*Marcy laughs softly, then winces again.* "Shut up." *She punches his arm lightly with her good hand.* "Seriously though, you two are ridiculous together. It's sickeningly cute." *She pauses,* "Can I ask something stupid?" *Her expression turns serious.*

"Sure.""What... what happened to the alien? The news is saying it just... stopped. Vanished." *Marcy's eyes search his face.* "Cecil's being weirdly vague about it. Said you 'handled it.' What does that mean? Did you kill it?" *Eve also looks at him curiously, waiting for his answer.*

"I didn't kill her, but if I tell you everything that happened. I need you to stay calm."

*Marcy's eyes narrow slightly at his serious tone. She nods, swallowing hard.* "Okay... I'm listening. Just... be honest. No sugarcoating." *She looks at Eve, who nods her agreement. Both women brace themselves for whatever he's about to reveal.* "Tell me."

he proceeds to tell them everything about the deal about how about Battle beast was searching for a mate And that she chose him, but he convinced her to leave so he could get stronger for the next time they meet.

*A heavy silence falls over the room as Max finishes his story. Marcy's jaw is slack, her eyes wide with disbelief. Eve stares at him, her expression shifting from shock to something else—concern, maybe even a hint of jealousy.*

Marcy is the first to speak, her voice barely a whisper. "She... chose you?"

"Yes"

*Eve's grip on his hand tightens.* "So she's coming back?" *Her voice is steady, but there's an edge to it—something protective and territorial.* "For... the mating?"

*Marcy lets out a disbelieving laugh.* "A rampaging alien nearly killed me, then picked *you* as a mate?" *She shakes her head slowly.*

*Marcy's expression turns serious.* "Max... this is dangerous. She's a monster—" *She stops, wincing in pain.* "I mean, she's an alien beast girl. You can't just... mate with her when she comes back." *Eve's face darkens at the word 'mate'.*

"I made a deal she could have refused but she did so I kinda have to now."

*Marcy's eyes widen.* "Kind of? MAX. You literally said you'd be HER MATE." *She sits up slightly, wincing again.* "That's not just 'kind of'—that's a commitment. To an ALIEN MONSTER who nearly killed me!" *Eve stays silent, but her grip on his hand is now painfully tight.*Marcy stares at him for a long moment, then collapses back against the pillows with a sigh.* "I can't believe you." *She shakes her head, but there's a hint of a smile.* "You literally talked down an unstoppable killing machine by promising to be her boyfriend." *Eve finally speaks, her voice low and controlled.* "We need to prepare."

"I have it under control."

*Eve's eyes snap to his.* "Do you now?" *Her tone is deceptively calm.* "Because to me, it sounds like you made a deal with something that can literally break through everything you've ever known—including me and Marcy." *She squeezes his hand tighter.* "And when she comes back... what then? Are you really gonna just..."

"I will work on something just trust me if you can do that we will be okay."

*At his words, both girls exchange glances. Marcy nods slowly, her expression serious.* "If you say you have a plan, I'll trust you." *She pauses before adding,* "But if this alien bitch thinks she's coming here and just taking you... she's got another thing coming."
